I just got done playing my friend who is a really good gief, crazy bullshit tick set ups and everything.
Basically i dont care what your opinion is on turtling this is one match where you HAVE to turtle. I thought going on the offense would work and it does for awhile but if you mess up you’re looking at a fierce grab which just negated the last 10 seconds of offence. Get the life lead using slam, i rarely use tortilla unless i know for a fact it’ll hit, slam has a good chance of hitting backdashes and benefits you more. Avoid headbutts like the plague, one of those and pretty much the slightest attack and you’re stunned. Standing roundhouse is your best friend, use it wisely though, random or unsafe distances will be met with ex green hand. On the topic of green hand, if you get hit by non ex its probably a tick throw set up so be careful, if it hits mash throw, if it doesnt backdash. Ex-green hand is odd, if it hits you re knocked down and you’ll probably lose but if you block it regardless of whether he FADC’s backwards you can reversal U2 it making him waste 3 bars and getting good damage. If theres anything more specific you wanna know just ask.
congrats El Toro, so proud and happy for you
Nice one, El Toro.
As for your Gief advice… Isn’t 'Gief at frame advantage when he hits a non-ex palm? I don’t think mashing throw works in this instance. You can only throw if you block. After getting hit by one, I say neutral jump or backdash…
Also, a lot of 'Giefs know the range of a palm and like to whiff green palm just in front of you, so they go straight into spd without worrying about blocking or hitting.
Im not sure about the frama data on non ex fist, whenever it hits me i mash throw and it works maybe im just really lucky lol, but yea i can tell he never means to hit me and wants it to whiff but i always escape if it does whiff
Not a discussion or anything, I’m just here to say that today, I tried El Fuerte for the first time online. I still have the Vanilla version, and the super version is on the way, so in the meantime I thought about playing characters that I like and never tried. I found El Fuerte extremely fun to use, still don’t know how to combo with him, but just from a match against a Cammy player, where I baited a cannon spike with EF’s running-and-stopping with lk., then doing his “guacamoooole!” MADE MY F’ING DAY!
Now I’m thinking about learning him a bit more, seeing he has the potential to bring hours and hours of fun!
Sorry if this ain’t the place to say this, but I just had to
Green Hand lp is -7, mp is -8, hp is -9, EX is -9, all on block according to Eventhubs framedata. After Gief gets a KD and whiffs a green hand in front of you he has a few options:
cr. short to stuff your jump away
j. hp to hit you
SPD
probably more that I don’t know
So it’s sort of a gamble on what to do. If you EX Guac, you might catch his j. HP but if he does cr. short you either eat SPD, Ultra (buffered from cr. lk), or lariat and the scenario replays. If he does an SPD you make him whiff and you can ultra or RSF. If you ultra (shouldn’t do this anyways) you MIGHT catch his cr. lk, whiff on j. hp, catch SPD and lariat.
I would backdash though. Cr. lk beats it but you don’t get knocked down from it and you can bait a jump if you walk back a bit and punish that with ultra. I don’t know too much about Gief so some of this might need testing lol.
also, seeing how vanilla is crawling with Ken scrubs, it’s awesome to see how they don’t even know where to begin attacking when I start runing around beating’em!
I didn’t see your previous post. Yeah, you don’t need many combos with Fuerte other than RSF. Just apply pressure on their wakeup with Tostada, Tortilla, Slide, etc. And when you do a slide, try not to run slide because it’s negative on block. Instead, run back, stop, and then do cr. HK because it’s safer.
To be honest i dont apply that much pressure on giefs wake up, i hit a couple times and stop because id rather not get backdashed 360’s, or block slide 360. Although i think slide(not off run) you can jump straight up if he tries to reversal 360. Needs testing
I apply as much pressure as I can when he has no ex meter using slide and crossup Tostadas to catch backdash. I haven’t fought a decent Gief that actually backdashes instead of mashing lariat to get out of pressure in a while, but if I did I would be OS U2 from j. HP a lot more too.
Oh snap i completely forgot about j.HP OS…hey chuck lets play!
I can’t atm, PS3 and TV is taken and I’d be wireless. You can add me if you want and we can definitely play later on or during the week since I might be going out today.
Congratulations on winning that tournament, El Toro. Can you show me where these online tournaments take place?
Oh snap I didn’t see the post about El Toro. Good stuff El Toro.
Anyways some of your Fuerte matches are being uploaded to UYG El Toro and you 2 things about the first match:
You backed yourself into the corner almost right away which sucks
Just so you know, after a slide on Honda you can do another immediate slide to teleport to the other side. Best in the corner so you can land cr. mk but everywhere else, another slide is the only quick option but you can tostada and stuff if you wanted to.
is there anyway to counter vega’s command grab from his wall dive? vegas seem to always rape me with that
One thing would be to air grab them as them as they go up. Another would be to wait to cr.HP, but I don’t remember if that works or not.
I decided to pull out a few online matches, and GODAMMIT AUTOPILOT! Especially during pressure. I don’t know if I’ll win Battle for the South this Saturday, but dammit I’ll try!
By the way, sPaB, what was that Ultra setup you mentioned you did. I need to keep than and any RSF setups in mind.
but what can i do if they do the wall dive from the opposite side of the map, and by the time they’re doing the follow up command grab, my normal air grab loses to it.
Try run stop Guac. I would say that, because he can mix up with his dive and attacks, that it’s best to just keep out of Vega’s range and slide him during the recovery.
There are a couple of guaranteed ways to deal with it.
The first is as Kuma said, neutral jump air grab. It’s pretty insulting.
The other, and the most effective I find, is to charge a focus attack on reaction to their wall dive. Being in a focus attack changes your attacking hitbox and it’s very hard for Vega players to get an Izuna drop on you. In fact, I don’t think it’s ever happened to me… Anyway, once they miss the Izuna drop and do a regular flying claw attack, just dash out of the FA whilst Vega is in recovery and from here you can go into RSF or Ultra punish.
Ah i thought they took that glitch out, thanks for that. I put my matches in the video thread
