From an email I got from Randy and PJ @ crouching fierce:

So basically if you don’t email cf.edmonton@gmail.com saying you are interested in coming first you are not welcome to come. It’s not my rule but If that’s a problem you’ll have to deal with me about it, and my answer is going to be tough titty.

GGs the other night. The lag was really annoying for techs and dropping charges for AA but it wasn’t that much worse beyond just playing online. Against Gief I couldn’t hit the character specific combo, against Sagat I couldn’t u1 your meaty overhead, versus Cammy the lag felt the worst, and Adon I still don’t know the matchup well. Only things I can see if you dp a lot and I had trouble baiting it, not sure if it was myself or the lag but especially against Adon I had troubles. Gief was weird as its hard to get experience against a good Gief, as most online are utter trash SPD mashers. Fun though, would do it again. Feel free to toss me feedback as well, I dig constructive criticism.

So depending on the limit, we pretty much need another option. Still its good to know, I wonder how new its aimed at, I’m hardly good but I wonder if that would be a place to refine my stuff.

Do they have a website, facebook page, twitter, etc…? I’ll send them an e-mail later.

Hey Guys, I want to clear somethign up.

Also Steve, please when I text you about something if you don’t understand the context completely don’t post about it, it’s disrespectful to me, and it misinforms people.

My plan was not to “shut down” WNF. I personally like them a lot, and if people still want to keep coming i’d be happy to host them for the rest of time. But with the attendance of this past wednesday I assumed people would stop coming all together and after reading the initial feedback on the forum, I thought this was a fair assesement.

WNF would only end for us if not a soul was there, which I assumed might happen this coming wednesday.

If you guys want to transition to going back to BP’s there would be no hard feelings from Me, or the rest of the crew at OK at all. We want to help grow the community, but at the end of the day we’re a business and that obviously for people who can’t afford $10 a week is a catch22.

@Deadsider - hopefully I haven’t offended you

@Steve - we’ll talk later.

hey Tim can you answer beeballs question? Why should console only players pay just as much as pc users when the product they’re using costs at least half if not a third of of what pc users are using

Yes I can answer this.

The reason we have standardized pricing isn’t based on the product we’re offering it’s based on the surrounding costs of providing the product. The inital cost of a console ($200~) and a PC ($2000~) is a drop in the bucket compared to the overall operating costs of the business. The Monthly expenses, rent/electical/alarm/insurance/staffing/heat/water/internet/loan etc.

We realize that the value associated with playing on an Xbox is not the same as high-end PC, because well an X-Box is cheaper and everyone can afford one in the long run, whereas a high-end PC isn’t always a realistic purchase.

If the only cost we had to worry about was the initial purchases you are 100% right it would not make any sense to charge more for an out of date system, vs a high end PC. But sadly the nature of the business is that the initial purchases are not where the majority of our expenses come from.

We realize it’s not realistic to charge the same for PC as console which is why we started charging much less for fight night, in hopes that people would come back. this turned out not the be the case and we had to re-evaluate. I however may have misjudged the value of the service we were offering to you guys, based on what I myself am accustomed to. For that I appologize, I also appologize for starting off at a price that I knew at the time wasn’t sustainable and having no fall back plan if my original thoughts of return customers was not feasible.

I hope this answers your question.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for spamming the thread.

It seems the trend is people want to head back to Boston pizza to avoid dealing with costs, I understand this and there are absolutely no ill-feelings towards anyone in the community.

What I/We @ OverKlocked would like to do as a thank you to everyone in the community for helping to grow the community and all your support, this next wednesday Fight Night will be Completely Free for anyone who wants to come out.

We will continue to run them after that until no one is coming out anymore. But hopefully for everyone who has been coming out in the past and what not, you can stop by.

I’m extremely sorry for any damage we have caused to the community it was NEVER our intention by any means, and hopefully everyone can understand that.

All the Best,

Tim Cooper
OverKlocked Gaming & Computers

does this mean bps is coming back cuz that would be awesome…

The issue with our community is that some are willing and able to pay $10, some can pay and but aren’t willing, and some can’t pay willing or not. Right there the numbers are stacked against using the facility as a weekly gathering spot.

With the amount of times in the last year that I’ve seen someone other than fighting game people on consoles at OK on Wednesday or otherwise I can count on one hand (outside of dragonball z guy). What sense does it make to raise prices and drive a certain kind of customer away when there isn’t a replacement for them? Besides water and power you still have all the other overhead like rent / insurance / staff (in this case) / loan that doesn’t change based on how many consoles are being used. When you factor in all the drinks and snacks we eat while waiting our turn to play on an xbox two people are already using it made it clear that OK was no longer viable at $10. Who knows what would happen if the price dropped to $5 this Wednesday? It wouldn’t hurt to find out imo. We already know what happened when the price doubled.

p.s. I have a lot of respect for your business and I fully accept that it is just that. Your business. I’m just wondering if maybe there could be a way around this?

ninja edit:

That’s pretty cool.

Thanks for responding, very much appreciated. Some things might not have not indeed came across as originally intended and as we know the internet age makes things awfully difficult to be sure intentions. No harm done here.

The problem is basically what Raiden Steve said; those who are still willing to go and play go for the competition, but unfortunately for fighting games that requires live competition. If the turnout would still stay low, I won’t have as much of a reason to go outside of maybe special events or meets or something. Without mincing words, we have some cheap ass players (not all are cheap by choice either) and trying to get them all out to play has historically been a challenge and I think most of us knew that coming in to OK. Its hard to see how things will develop as just because the individual is willing they require the group to benefit.

Regardless, I’m glad to hear its still open and am still hoping for a resurgence with a new title that for a lot of us gathered some hype (good or bad lol) in street fighter cross tekken. If it catches fire it could be the best thing to happen to everyone, if not well, I have no idea.

Still, thanks for replying.

Looks like BP’s would cost everyone more that 10$ with food/drink/tip as stated… i dunno just my thought… also at regular price 4 hours is 13$ if you go old school arcade style at .25$-1$ a match then you could make your 13 back for renting a station and people could still do fightnights for cheap… i dont show up because im lazy not the price but i would be amazed if BP’s was cheaper if “we have made an agreement with Boston Pizza management that all participants will order a food or drink item and will tip the servers.” if your going to do a once a week deal i say find a hall get a way to scam a cheap booze license and hold it on a general day off for most people charge your 2-10 a head get a keg and pay for the hall and keg plus make some on the side…

Food OR drink.

Just buy a drink and leave a small tip.

Just what I would do. But I love their wings. So goooood.

I’ll be at OK next wednesday for sure

I’m sure I can convince Owen Brandon Paul and Cam to come as well

I bought ff13-2 against my better judgments. I’m glad I went against my better judgments. I just wish I could have done the same thing and bet on the giants.
