you know raiden you might disagree with me but i did some research on oni lately and i don’t think he’s good at all… in fact i think he’s one of the bottom 5 characters
it seems to me like oni is a jack of all trades but a master of none, which doesn’t bode well in a lot of matchups. it seems like it’s hard to get good hit confirms with him off of pokes and stuff. Do you use a lot of meter for FADC? It seems like Oni kind of has to to get good combos off of his best pokes.
I think they balanced him with the demon-slashes in mind, seeing as they ARE pretty good offensive moves that no other character has access too, but i don’t think they’re THAT good, you know? I’m interested to hear your opinion
regardless, I have a lot of fun playing Oni ^____^ He’s got good IMPACT on his combos, c. mp, b+mp xx fp demon smash is a baaaaaadass combo

I don’t know where to put Oni. I think he’s better than people give him credit for but you could say the same thing for a lot of underused characters. He’s got above average normals for a shoto with a major weakness in that he can’t fadc his dragon punch on block. He’s almost an anti shoto specialist who happens to be a shoto. He has options to get around fireballs with mk.demon slash and well timed air dash tatsu cancels and baits slow recovering dps well with hp air dash. His slashes are in the same vein as gouken except they don’t combo except for the lk version. At the end of the day you are right about being the master of no trades. He’s mostly a gimmick character that can be played solidly until you reach another level. In North America he does well at wnf and big2 with combofiend and chris hu, but those guys would do just as well with able and ryu. I think it’s just that Oni is fun to play and when something is fun you want to use him more and more.
