So the UFC games are pretty fun, imo. No idea if they’re tourney-worthy, though, just because of balancing and shit.
UFC 2009 is the probably my favorite MMA game ever and the only one I put any time into. But it was busted as shit lol. Infinite uppercut combos, takedowns and grappling in general were too good (lay and pray all day!).
UFC 2010 I didn’t even bother with because it was a huge downgrade. Yes they added upperbody movement, more unique attacks but instead of try to fix the combo system the decided to remove it altogether lol and the new grappling system (shining) was just stupid as hell lol. I gave up on the franchise after that.
EA MMA was just jenky looking, the controls sucked, and the grappling was just too simplistic.
Fight Night was fun.
THQ tried to get the last UFC game on Evo. Didn’t happen

Thats because MMA and Boxing games are viewed more as sports games, as opposed to what are actually called fighting games.

If I wanted to play a Sports game I play MBLA the Show, Madden, NHL 2k or something. The Last good WWF (I don’t recognize the WWE) game was on the SNES and Genesis.
If I wanted a Boxing game I’ll Play Mike Tysons Punch Out on the NES.
Game are never supposed to be about realism, it supposed to be fun. And the moment you constantly insist on realism, you ignore drive away anything that even mimics fun.
About MMA’s Sport status.
MMA matches illegal in some states, It was illegal to have UFC/ MMA matches in Maryland until a few years ago. The State of Maryland before then refuse to acknowledge that MMA was even a sport. And our State official sport is jousting, you know two guys in full plate armor charging each other on horses with wooden lances.
