Dudley's v.2012 balance changes. (BETA)

Yun didn’t get nerfed that badly depending on how viable his dive kick is. Instead of requiring 3 combo’s to kill, he’ll need 4 now. Yun has always been a momentum based character, and he’ll still be able to steam roll people if most of his setups are the same.

And a lot of mid tier characters like Cody, Juri, Deejay, Guile, Bison, Rog, Chun etc all received considerable buffs or are returning to their former glory. Dudley returning to his Super self doesn’t mean much considering he was still low mid in that game. If you honestly think Dudley didn’t deserve more tweaking then you’re only lying to yourself.

There’s reason why there aren’t any Dudley mains cracking top 16 at majors. His current form just doesn’t bring all of the goods. And the most frustrating part about it is the fact that he’s so close to being viable.

By just saying “deal with it” is such a lame cop out excuse. No one is asking for Dudley to be OP, we just want a couple extra real tools to help Dudley have a fighting chance in the competitive scene.

Edit; And can you argue that any of the buffs Dudley recieved will actually make a difference? A lot of them are either useless or flat out redundant.

SSB won’t help against crouch techs because he’s -4 on block. Even St. HKxxduck is safer on block which makes SSB almost 100% useless outside of character specific punishes.

Neutral jump moves are a joke. More active frames on jLP and jMK is redundant when Dudley’s jHP is superior in almost all situations.

FADC Rose toss is basically a slap in the face. Why couldn’t they just shorten the frames instead of making us waste half a bar to reset someone?

The only saving grace to this update is whether or not you can juggle with U1. If I could land a LP upper or AA SSB into U1 that’d be god like, and would make Dudley extremely deadly, but again I’m not holding out for a miracle like that and he’d still have the same problems he has now.

You’re funny. Dudley was ass in AE and he’s ass in AE 2012. He has a handful of straight 5-5’s, with about 70% of the cast having an advantage against him. He only has one solid way of getting in without meter (Step Striaght touching on the last few frames) and that shit is hard as fuck to even do consistently because his stance makes it hard to judge distance.You guys need to stop dreaming.

Those changes are a Joke… a Bad one… It’s amazing the lack of attention Dudley get when those changes occur… Really dissapointing.

• Standing Roundhouse counterhit is now +7 = “Great, you gave us back something you took away in AE, good job”

• Air Jab can now cross up = “Air LK crosses up randomly, if this works in a similar manner than it’s pointless to use as a basic strategy, there’s no consistency in the actual cross up, not to mention confirming after a jump Light attacks is tight as fuck on frame data”

• Air Fierce is active for 7 frames (1 longer than in AE) = “So… what’s your point? It still gets beat out by most Air to air moves.”

• Focus Attack level 1 is -3 on hit or block = “Dudley’s Focus attack was fine already, why buff something that didn’t need a buff in the first place?”

• Medium and Heavy Short Swing Blow are less vulnerable to low attacks - “Good shit, i would actually really like this buff, cept for the fact that meduim and heavy short swing blow don’t even reach an opponent after a frame trap, only light short swing blow hits. Way to fuck up on that one.”

• Thunderbolt will now always complete if it hits and causes untechable knockdown, and the EX version will not flash on the way up = " I am not even going to commentate about this, people only use it for chip damage anyways so?.. yea."

• The Rose is focus and super cancelable = “cool, its still takes 8 frames to come, so while you throw a rose on a knocked down opponent he can dp you.”

• Ultra 1 Rolling Thunder will connect fully on aerial opponents = “all i have to say about this is… umm… DP FADC ROSE FADC U1 for style points”

lol… the fact that you would ever use those SSBs on block is dumb because they’re so unsafe on block. LK and EX SSB is the ones you should be using no matter the situation; wake ups, “blockstrings,” baiting and blocked. Dudley is just as Super Dudley now with just unnecessary air normal buffs. It looks like Capcom doesn’t even listen to the players or take the time with such a difficult to main character like Dudley… lol but they buff Zangief who is already top 10, buff Balrogs headbutt again, and give Abel his already stupid 200 damage Tornado Throw. Cool, what else… all the Akuma layers are crying because 2 frames on forward throw, so it’s harder or impossible to vortex now, and I bet Fei, Yun, and Yang will be more successful than the “new buffed Dudley…” because they’re just much better characters. Thunderbolt? come on…

Again, no one needs help beating scrubs on xbox live. Try that against a player worth a damn and see how well you do. If playing footsies with Dudley were that easy, there would be a lot more people winning with him in tournaments.

Maybe they’re not buffing Dudley because thunderbolt is so good.

cliffside maybe you should update your opening thread like this one and make it a poll with a list of changes we would like to see in the upcoming patch (or make a new thread).


because it seems like some of the changes for cody were directly taken into consideration from that thread.

or better yet, we should make a balance request thread on the capcom unity forum AND TWEET ONO about it (it doesn’t matter if you can’t speak japanese, just use simple english so he could understand or google translate back and forth so he can understand).

i mean seriously, what’s wrong for asking for more if our character is clearly BAD compared to other casts? do you guys WANT dudley to be the next Sean/Q? no? because it seems like we’re clearly allowing capcom to fuck us over silly. so let’s do something about it, for fuck sakes bipson players think their character is low tier and asking for mega buffs.

either capcom doesn’t have any idea how dudley works because of the lack of dudley playerbase in japan or we have some another japanese 34 giving feedback to capcom saying “nop, dud is balanced, wait for tut.”

i’ve come across more than 15 people telling me how dudley got “mad buffs” and they weren’t “trolling”.

well let’s go for the ssb breaking armor atleast OR make ducking straight not push the opponent so far back after we break their armor so we can combo after it. Ducking straight counterhit combos only work on sagat and like 1 other character and it rapes hard, we need that **** to land on the majority of the cast then peeps would be afraid to focus our moves so often. Or make SSB on counterhit able to juggle with EX duck more reliably like LK SSB, if you score a counterhit with heavy or medium SSB you can’t follow shit after it, if it’s going to be unsafe then I think the reward should be high dmg combos like able to follow ex duck upper/straight, U2, Hp jet upper.

I just tweeted ono for short swing blow to break armor and to be safe on block. I don’t really post here much cus I suck, but I figure someone should start asking.

what? Ono doesn’t care. If he did he knew what Dudley needed in his moveset. He knows whats wrong with Dudley so why doesn’t he help? I’ve done that before, he doesn’t care.

What have you got to lose by asking? If he really doesn’t give a wet shit about dudley, then we get boned. But if we try and ask him, we at least have a chance of making something happen, even if it’s just a small chance. Maybe it’s the lack of effort from the community that made Ono stop caring about dudley. Maybe he never cared at all. Either way I’d rather try and get something done than sit here getting salty.

i like how the mod locked the dudley balance request thread on capcom unity but not the gouken one.
