Dudley's v.2012 balance changes. (BETA)

I’ll post this here since I forgot about this thread. I’m glad they give him back half of his st.HK proprties on counter hit. I actually like then new st.HK but I really wanted his old one back. st.HK CH is much better though along with st.HK being 0 block. It’s just… dignity.

Dudley’s standing Hard Kick is now +7 on counter-hit. The blog notes that if you land a counter-hit standing Hard Kick and cancel into Light Ducking, you’ll still be at +4.

• Dudley’s neutral jump Light Punch got a hitbox size buff.

Neutral Jump Hard Punch startup changed to 6 frames, and the hitbox was extended in size.

Angled jumping Light and Medium Punch have had their active times lengthened.

Dudley’s Level 1 Focus Attack has an extra frame of blockstun, when it’s guarded. This means that if you dash forward after a Level 1 Focus Attack is guarded, Dudley is now at -3.

• Short Swing Blow has had its hurtbox on Dudley’s lower body reduced.

• EX Thunderbolt does not flash yellow until it comes down from the sky.

**• You can now Super Cancel Dudley’s rose toss taunt. **This also means that you can FADC it.

** • Dudley’s Ultra 1 will now strike more hits against an airborne opponent. [Translator’s note: The blog might be talking about making Dudley’s Ultra 1 and Ibuki’s Ultra 2 so that they juggle non-cinematic like Yun and Yang’s do.]**

I dont understand because Lvl1 Focus is already -3 on block when dash cancelled

I guess it’s -2.

The thing is already risky as hell.
If you SSB and they didn’t do anything, they can hit or throw Dudley as he slides forward, neutral jump punish, Lv2 FA.
Then on block it’s -2 on LK EX and -4 on MK HK versions
Not mention SSB CH puts them in the air is terrible

Still baffled that SSB doesn’t break armour.

Comparable specials… Hazanshu (hits overhead and is safe on block), Viper burn kicks (safe on block, crosses up), jaguar kick (breaks armour, safe on block).

Not to mention they’re all FAR better evasive moves.

I wish he had his jump back motion like in 3S. Oh well, I really like the special and I’ll find ways to use it.

I wish st.HK stuffed more things.

the obvious is ryu cr.mk and other moves in the game that go lower then that, that’s why we have f.mp. What are you looking for that you wish st.hk would stuff more?

Jumpins, specials, general pokes. Maybe I should be more accurate; I wish st.hk was more reliable. Take Jaguar Kick for example. I know st.hk CAN stuff it, but the strict timing means that, too often, it’s not worth trying.

I think an increase in its hitbox in all directions would do a lot for Dudley.

does anyone know japanese? we should all spam ono’s twitter with a very specific demand and if we get enough people to do it, maybe he’ll listen. there’s still time before the final patch release.

Dudley
We have tried to increase his total potential by revising his moves and attributes.
[HK]: Gives +7 frame advantage on counter hit. So now if you counter hit with [HK] and cancel into [L. Duck], you will be at +4 frame advantage.
[Vertical j.LP]: Active frames and hit box has been increased.
[Vertical j.HP]: Startup changed to 6 frames, and active frames and hit box has been increased.
[Diagonal j.LP] & [Diagonal j.MP]: Active frames have been lengthened.
[Focus Attack Level 1]: Opponent gains an extra +1 stun after hit or guard. So Dudley will be at -3 frames after canceling into a forward dash after a blocked Focus Attack.
[Short Swing Blow]: Medium and Heavy versions of the move have had the lower body hittable area shrunk, and also made easier to connect against a crouching opponent.
[Thunder Bolt]: All strengths of the move (including EX) will no longer lose easily when trying to hit an airborne opponent, and a hit opponent cannot tech roll afterwards. For the EX version, the light flash and sound follow a bit later after the move comes out.
[Victory Rose]: Can now be Super Canceled, or EX Focus Canceled.
[Rolling Thunder]: All hits before the final locked animation sequence will connect on an airborne opponent. Similar to Ibuki, if you connect with [Focus Attack Level 2] and follow up with [Rolling Thunder] while they are in the air, all the hits up until the locked animation will land.

Great, they fucked up Rolling Thunder and now punishing airborne moves like Psycho Crusher and Blanka Balls risk the chance of smacking out the air for ass damage instead of them falling into our arms for full or majority of the damage.

it’d be kinda cool if there was a damage redistribution while in juggle state. at least an extra 20 points per hit.

If these are final changes by release Dudley is going to be solid low tier, no doubt. Seriously, why the fuck did they think his neutral jump normals needed to be better? Or were they literally looking for some of the absolute most pointless changes they could think of to pad out the change list and make it LOOK like they spent some time on him to anyone who doesn’t actually play Dudley? You’d be surprised to see how many people actually think Dudley looks pretty buffed now, when really he got jack shit.

Meanwhile 80% of the cast is getting real, actual buffs. 5-5 matchups all over are becoming 6-4 against Dudley whilst he’s getting left behind. The best change he got was a re-instating of the st.HK traps, and that’s something they took away from him to begin with.

Fuck’s sake, I am so frustrated. It says a lot when Yun and Yang, even after their’ page-long list of nerfs and all of Dudley’s ‘buffs’ that they are probably both still far more effective characters.

How are they legitimate. Dudley isn’t shit tier as it is. Yun got CONSIDERABLY worse and that’s an even match up. Yang got nerfed heavily as well. Guile and Dhalsim stay fucked over.

The speed at which he changed his avatar to Cody illustrates that he’d rather find a character select answer to match ups rather than use Training Mode and logical thought to work them out.

Dudley is still very good.
