Level 1 FA Dash Cancel is already -3 on block so if that buff they said they gave Dudley’s level 1 FA Dash Cancel still exists, it’s -2 on block not -3. A lot of matchups got a lot easier because we don’t have to do some frame perfect timing with normals to punish blocked moves anymore (looks at Balrog). Don’t understand the +2 on hit for backswing blow given that the stronger buttons are more useless since they are a lot slower and you can’t do any kind of combo with +2 AND still have counter-hit popping the opponent away. Also, crouch forward buff that was for start-up time? It’s almost like Capcom decided to listen. I’m waiting for Gamma buffs that basically take away everything Dudley just gained and swap it for EX Thunderbolt being -19 on block instead of - half a second and Rose FADC only requiring 1 stock.

Nope, because I can do that too and I am not perfect.

Won’t lie, the 2 biggest buff in MY opinion is the HP jet upper being 3 frames and focus attack lvl 1 on hit or block being -2 so that means we can start doing short swing blow tricks with that. I really do like the cr.mk being faster shit will finally work as an OS now against happy back dashes.

However you treated your special move Light MGB on block now you’ll basically do the same with the new focus attack.

I suppose these changes will stay since it is in beta now. Anything to punish rose, balrog will be welcome. It is just freakin ridiculous at the moment. Hope they just do the reduction also to ex.jetupper accordingly since this is required on wake-up.

I recently picked up AE after selling Super about 8months ago, haven’t used Dudley yet. Did I see somewhere that he has a crossup now?

You guys are being very optimistic but in the grand scheme of things, this doesn’t change much at all. You are all forgetting that everyone else is being buffed by just as much if not more than Dudley.

So far, his only meaningful changes have been 3 frame HP JU and improved cr.MK. Everything else has been fluff and trash. Do you think that’s honestly enough? His in close normals are still terrible. He still has terrible frame advantage on everything. He’s still free to not-so-point-blank pressure like Ibuki’s.

Dudley players just seem to be more positive. With the exception of the Dan forums it i naught but doom and gloom in all of the 2012 threads I frequent. No one can seem to see beyond their own noses and view the changes globally.

It’s a good step in the right direction.

Those two changes were what he needed the most though. (An answer to Balrog’s dash straight and Rose Spiral) He had nothing to stop those in AE and now he’ll be able to contend with them in 2012. Also, his sweep will allow him to OS backdashes for free so people won’t be able to just spam it on wakeup anymore.

Dudley went from being dumb to play due to system mechanics to actually viable. He is never going to be top tier because he’s risky to play and 90% of his game revolves around good yomi and knowing how to deal with good footsie characters.

You’re also forgetting that he got his counterhit HK into ducking back as well, which is huge for his up close game and allows him to stay in against mash happy crouch techers.

And if people don’t press buttons you still have F.MK which allows you to maintain pressure and leaves you +3 on block. Dudley’s block string game is so solid as is. It’s just as good as Cody’s if not better. He doesn’t need anything at all for when he’s up close.

His sweep is a little better but not THAT much better for OS’ing. It got one more active frame. So what. It’s reach is it’s main issue when dealing with backdashes. The startup and activity might be good now but it still has no range for stopping the longer backdashes.

3 frame JU is good.

Giving him back his CH duck combos is also good.

But everyone else is getting buffed and in many cases more so than Dudley. Blanka is having changes done to him that completely affects his traditionally poor wakeup, T. Hawk is getting shenanigans, Zangief’s lp SPD is getting BETTER (what’s changed about this matchup that makes it any less of a 7-3?), Hakan is a certified contender (future terrible matchup, mark my words), Gouken and Gen are getting I don’t even KNOW what, Ibuki got buffed, Juri got buffed, Evil Ryu and Oni both got buffed, Cody got buffed and the list goes on.

I’m happy about his sweep being Balrog speed now and about having a 3 frame mashable, albeit vulnerable reversal, but neither of these things change all that much outside of a couple of matchups, which the vast majority of Dudley’s are looking to be against him.

His best, most consistently useful change so far has been to shave 2 frames from the startup of his cr.mk.

T Hawk and Gief are still going to be bad matchups but that’s due to character design. An “in” fighter should always lose to a grappler.

Gouken was 6-4 Dudley before and it’ll likely stay that way. Oni was a weird matchup and the jury is still out on him. E Ryu is still garbage imo, and Cody will be good but I don’t think that MU will be unwinnable for Dudley. Cody still heavily relies on skill to win. He’s not a lame faceroll character so I don’t see what the complaint is.

Yeah Dudley can use a few more buffs but I’ll take him in his 2012 state so long his sweep can be used as intended.

The matchup with Zangief was 6-4 in Super. His lp SPD change tipped the scale since now pretty much anything Dudley tries to do that isn’t st.FP gets punished.

Yeah but Zangief wasn’t the Zangief he is now. That matchup is basically 7-3 in AE and it hasn’t gotten any better. Playing Flash Metroid’s Gief every week is what made me pick up Ken as an alternate. I’d suggest everyone else do the same.

Edit: I’d say Rose, Balrog, and Gief are all fundamentally dumb matchups for Dudley. You’re never going to win 2 in a row against someone with equal or more skill than you. This is going to change in AE for 2 of those bad matchups so I’m entirely happy.

I’m glad for the beta change buffs…there actually more solid then the alpha buffs. I’m more concerned now with the stealth buffs/nerfs…seeing as they changed ducking upper back to its AE version.

On a serious note, These new buffs are actually, substantial. 8 frames is a frame slower than I would like for cr. MK, but I am certainly happy with any improvement. And the faster Jet uppers are very welcome to me.

Hey Brainpipe, it couldn’t hurt! My brother and I held our hands up for about 10 straight minutes to ask Ono what it would take to get Dudley and Juri in at the Street Fighter X Tekken panel. Finally Seth called on him after noting his “impressive arm strength.” Haha.

Doubt Dudders will get into SF x T, but hopefully he will be solid in 2012. It’s looking good so far. Now let’s hope for no nerfs in the last round of testing after this one, and if wishes are being granted, then a few more buffs too.

From what I played of SFxT at Evo, I think Dudley would be pretty decent in that game. Chain combos so people don’t mash dp through strings, throw distance hugely reduced so mashing throw to stop any pressure wouldn’t really do anything. MGB does a lot of block stun, so tag canceling a light or medium one to go for a mixup sounds decent. Similarly using a team mate character to put them into block stun with a tag cancel so Dudley can safely go for a high/ low.

Not to mention having a team mate to offset bad match ups would be cool and the fact that he is already built for juggle combos. Too bad there is a different British boxer already in the game, Dudley would seem redundant on the cast now.
