Dudley Q&A: Let's learn... like Gentlemen!

Does anyone know what Dudles safe jump options are after a forward throw back throw mk ducking upper straight ect.

s. lp, s. mp chain can link to s. rh

I need help with this too. Can’t figure out any safe jump setups.

Wouldn’t it be the same as any standing mix up since you’re jumping in right next to them ?

  1. safe jump in
  2. ground mix up of your choice
  3. ???
  4. profit!!!

example being … you safe jump in … your 3 main options are …

fw+hk
cr.lk
lk+lp [throw them]

Your weaker options being

mp+mk [focus attack] … but why ? i guess you could bait a SRK and back dash and punish

cr.mk or cr.RH … also a little slow and weird but might catch a few people off guard

63214K [whatever that move is called] … i guess would yield about the same results as a fadc backwards with less applications.

Cross counter … However, most people are just going to block low, or swing low or throw you after a safe jump so it just seems kind of wacky.

What im trying to say is your main offense starters should be based off his main hard to react to mix up options … over head strike and cr.lk which can be comboed into big damage… getting hit by a full combo of [whatever dudley move ] cr.lp ~ st.hk xx ex MGB will really make people think twice about anything … cr.lp is always a great way to start offense too but its more less a poke to hit confirm into combo where as the over head and cr.lk are his main mix up - then you have your ultimate bail out " the throw " as your end all be all rock when paper and scissor dont work.

If you jump in and they throw out something big and you blck it, or it whiffs - punish that shi … anyway you can, or just stop playing fighting games cause you already lost:rock:.

I think you misunderstand what I’m asking. I want to know just how to get to step one in your example, and guarantee a safe jump in assuming the opponent attempts a reversal (with 4 or more startup frames).

And by the way, don’t focus attack immediately after a jump in with the intent of baiting a DP, because it would become a reversal.

Hey all,

I’m having trouble getting around people mashing jabs. I know Duds has quite a few frame traps to punish this type of behavior, but not sure exactly what they are. Can anybody help me out on what strings I should be throwing out if i’m expecting mashed jabs at every opportunity?

I’ve spent a rather large amount of time more than I’m willing to admit practicing c.lpx2 > c.mp > roundhouse > ex mgb. I’ve gotten it off about 20 times in total out of like countless hours. Just out of curiousity how long did it take you guys?

Why are you doing that instead of c. LP c. LP s. HK? This is a 2 frame link while the one you’re practicing has 2 1frame links.

I’m retarded I meant that link. >_> clp clp s.hk

Oh lol.

Online, yeah I can’t seem to land that as frequently as I’d like. I think it’s my nerves more than lag. I need to play more :/.

That link seems pretty easy to me, although i drop the combo online sometimes. Mixing up the clk clp shk was a bit harder…

Does dudley have a counter to shoryuken fadc? Or is there another reason why valle never does it on wakeup when dudley is right in his face in this video? DEVA2010 - Alex Valle vs EGMarn - Day 3 - SSF4 TOP 8: GRAND FINAL

Multiple people have asked about this so I’ll post what I know about Dudley safe jumps. However I want to say that Dudley might prefer meaties to safe jumps because of his powerful high/low mixup and the relative unreliability of tick throws. But anyways Dudley has hella safejump potential because he basically has 4 different speed dashes with normal dash and ducking.

[LIST]
[]cr.hk or EX MGB -> ducking upper -> forward dash -> hold :uf: (safe jumps 5 frames or slower)
[
]forward throw -> mk ducking -> hold :uf:
[]back throw -> mk ducking -> hold :uf: -> j.hk - not a true safe jump but the vast majority of reversals, including DPs, go harmlessly underneath you and they can’t backdash.
[
]back throw -> walk forwards -> hold :uf:
[/LIST]
I know you can safe jump from non-cinematic ultra 2 and super but I don’t have an easy setup for it.

Some stuff hijacked from safe jump/os thread

Thanks dude, you’re a life saver. I agree with you that meaties are generally more effective as Dudley, but if the opponent also realizes this, they will just backdash all day. I want to work on a safejump roundhouse/Corkscrew Cross option select for that situation. When you say “ducking upper”, does it matter which version of duck you use?

One more thing… Has anyone on this forum collected information on the different wakeup times in super or at least vanilla? I feel like Guile and Sagat stay down longer than other characters which can mess up safejumps (and its pretty vital vs Guile IMO). I know that’s not Dudley specific info but it would help me out.

Yeah I can do the link, but linking the EX MGB is a problem. Maybe, I’m just too spastic with my movements.

Try moving the stick to back or down back almost at the exact same time as you hit the st hk (just a touch behind the button press), so upon the button release of the hk you are already starting the motion for your EXMGB.

Audio; Thanks for that tip! I was lurking and I’m just picking through the beginner forums on his BnBs and I can hit the links fro the most part but when it comes to hitting ANY MGB I drop it.

Ugh, I’m sick of this. My Dudley gets weaker everyday that I play him, I just keep losing to stupid shit only like Ryu’s jumping back with HK and c.HK, j.HK > Hadoken, Sagats who f.HK, Tiger Shot all day and his somewhat fast recovery. Guile’s stay back and Sonic Boom and it’s hard to duck under because their Sonic Boom just has too much recovery and it’s almost impossible to punish. I lose to spam shoryuken’s, I lose to spam hadoken’s and trip HK’s, just to bring up how bad I’ve done with Dudley, I had 5007 BP a month and a half ago, and now I have 2678… I know BP’s don’t matter most of the time, but my large decrease in BP just shows how horrible I’ve been playing with Dudley. I thought I’ve improved but it’s hard getting tick throwned all the time, I get frustrated at random wake-up Ultra’s. I think I just suck and should stop playing Dudley…

I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong, I can get my BnB combo’s, I’ve done some advanced stuff online to with FADC combo’s, I can do all of that shit, but wtf? I just…I know that I jump in a lot when I can duck and grab, or do my mix ups. I just think I can play with Dudley anymore…I can’t beat M.Bison (Dictator,) I can’t do shit to Vega, I can touch E.Honda but stand back and s.FP it when it uses that ram head crap and spam 360’s all day. I think I’m going to drop Dudley can go back to Akuma if I don’t improve because I feel that even if I do read strategies for every characters I’m having trouble playing against, I get shitted on by random stuff and scrubs that just stand back and camp with hadoken’s and when I duck or get near, I get grabbed or sweeped.

I don’t know…I don’t know if I should continue, I can’t win 3/5 of my matches, because I lose about 4/5 of every match I play. I have a 57% win ratio…and I don’t know why it’s so high if I can’t do good with Dudley…Please help me, how can I improve my ground game. I can say one thing whenever I f.mk and pressure with cr.lp and f.mk, I can mashed jabbed out of moves…so my pressure game isn’t good at all…

I can lose to stuff I know I have trouble, but when it comes to stupid shit, I get frustrated and lose more games I’m not supposed to be losing because I know sometimes I have the advantage. Some tips to improve my game? Some good jump ins? Follow ups? Other wake up moves besides dart shot? Save me please. :frowning:

First i will say. don’t get frustrated when you are in a match. Just slow down, adjust the spacing, and out play the player. Doing combos doesn’t = advanced

Its all about out spacing out thinking and out playing your opponent.

If you are losing to scrubs Just don’t mind it, they are not trying to learn the game.

Now for good people Just learn where its good to be where you are at an advantage, and learn when to use your normals.

I have the same problem as MeLLoW, I lose to all that shit, but I can down right devilish with my pressure and mixup. Anymore tips to help me and MeLLoW?

BTW does Dudley have a kara throw and if so, what is it?
