Dudley: A Distinguished Thread for Gentlemen Pugilists

I’d change the colors of Dudley if I were you, it just kind of looks bland otherwise. There also isn’t that much of a Warhol feel if you only touch the backgrounds.

Yeah, i tired adjusting the levels, and doing the whole cutout thing in photoshop, but the dudley pic wasn’t looking good as a result. When i have more time, i’ll try touching it again and see what happens from there.

I still feel like its got this weird album cover feel to it.

What hace said.

it’s easier if you take an already colored Dudley pic, since you can simply mess with Hue/Saturation and get the Warhol effect.

PS.: Did you like how I made Dudley B&W with just the Blue Gloves and Red Bowtie, in reference to your old avatar? I R GENIUS!!!
Also, working on a premium avatar feels so good. It’s like I can do whatever the hell I feel like doing. No color limits, bigger, can fit longer animations too.

Yeah, trying to add color to that isn’t going to be fun in the slightest, so I’d do what Kanta said and get a pre-colored Dud.

Bonus points if you also change the blue in the flag and add a small blur filter.

looks beastly, and kudos on the tagline at the bottom. i laughed so hard lol.

I’ll take that into consideration, just gotta find a good colored pic of duds now. And yeah, i caught that ref to my old avatar. i was like “GENIUS!!!”

…which reminds me, i gotta renew my premium soon. =(

I’m surprised Dudley is so popular, i figured guy or cody would have been much more popular than him.

Pre-2004 it would have been Guy and Cody. However after the Daigo parry, youtube became flooded with 3s vids. As a result people saw how impressive Dudley can be, so it’s no suprise people would want to hop on the bandwagon. You would also probably see a lot of support for Yun if he were in the game as well, and Alex as well. Though back in the days many publishers thought Alex was a fairly lame design, and not a great substitution for Ken/Ryu.

I don’t think he’ll be overwhelmingly popular though. I think he’s going to get disposessed 3s players who didn’t pick up 4, and Balrog players who get sick of db and jab spam all day. I would assume he is going to take at least 70% of Boxer’s player base, and the only people who will stick with him are people who prefer charge characters, or people who are just diehard Boxer fans/specialist.

The same issue exist for us Guile players to. I expect Dee Jay to take a lot of Guile players leaving only real diehard fans and specialist to stick with him. In eitehr case, I find it interesting. I consider myself a specialist of Guile, so I’m naturally going to stick with him

I still think online will be full of shotos.

I’m a HUGE Final Fight fan, but my character got shafted (as a Zangief costume.) Dudley was the only character from third strike that made me crack a smile… and I actually understood his moveset a but too so it created a nice balance. He has a lot of depth and actual interesting personality, somthing a lot of sf characters lack.

My god man. Your avatar is making me have a seizure.

i played Dudley exclusively in third strike, and i started after seeing that vid, so maybe you are right about that. something is off with him here though. i think it’s the huge jump arc they gave him, i don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. it just seems he should be jumping more how gen jumps in sf4, he’s a boxer.

Dudley? I don’t think he will be as great as he was in 3rd Stirke .His links still seem to be there which is a good thing (I really hope he keeps his ex Machine gun blow, jab, Machine Gun blow combos) but he might lose alot of his juggle Potential he had in 3rd Strike because of the differences in S4 and Third Strike (he would especially be losing alot of his C.Roundhouse juggles and it also seems like SSF4 timing is going to be alot more strict than SF4). We will see what happens post release but thing don’t look too good for him at this time Makoto and Ibuki seem more promising IMO.

I asked this question before on this thread, but I think its interesting to ask. I believe Dudley will become a lot more reliant on his ex moves to setup whatever juggles he has. I wonder how would Dudley begin to build meter. Sure the answer is just to get in and start attacking, but that option may not always exist for him. so how does he safely build meter in this game. You can no longer whiff pokes (his most common way) like you could in 3s. I have a feeling he may rely a lot of focusing, footsies, and whiffing lp MGBs to get him the meter he needs. Then again, something scarey can happen. He could be a character who can totally do damage WITHOUT meter. I think that could balance him out.

Dudley has never really had to deal with a game where zoning is really good like in SFIV. In 3s he works, because people usually don’t throw fireballs in that game because of parrying. In this game, it looks like it may be harder to close the gap. He doesn’t really look like he was designed to deal with zoning. I still think it will be interesting to see how he is handled. I am not going to be using him, but I really like to get into characters whom I will be facing mindset. Dudley and Makoto are the two 3s characters I fear the most in Super.

Well, I mean boxer was never really a char to deal with zoning before. And look at him here. Maybe his counter will finally work on projectiles? A lot of things can happen in the development stage. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m liking Dudley style. Plus I always wanted to play a boxer type character but I hate Charge characters. However my interest is in Makoto.

He has his 2I move and he can focus or neutral jump fireballs. Not really an issue.

Boxer deals with projectiles like they’re nothing. In ST he is 5-5 with all zoning characters, and straight up counters O.Sagat (which is crazy). Balrog has too many ways around projectiles and always have at least since the HF days.

But I don’t like when Balrog is compared to Dudley, because they play pretty differently. I can imagine EX cross counter could be a nice little gimmick. It will be crazy if they put armor on it as well.

I’m surprised none of the newer players haven’t flooded the 3s forums yet. And like Songo said he has thunder bolt, ducking, and neutral jump for fireballs . Do all thunder bolt versions knock down or is it just the EX thunder bolt that knocks down?

Also they could do ducking like Abel’s roll. It builds meter to iirc.

I believe Duds won’t have a big problem dealing with zoning. Many none fireball characters have options to deal with zoningin SF4, so I don’t think he’ll be the exception. I also agree he might have to rely on EX moves to deal with zoning (ex ducking Uppercut or straight could possibly go through fireballs).

I’m looking forward to exploring all his different links with the SF4 combo system. I’m hoping he has a somewhat steep learning in terms of his links. Too bad that he loses all his great juggling from 3rd Strike, but we’ll find a way to make it work. Duds (crouching) roundhouse needs to have the same juggle properties likes The King’s High Step Kick. I don’t know if anyone asked this before, but I wonder how many different ways he can combo his super? Even though many people don’t use super, I for one love supers, so hopefully he doesn’t get shortchanged in that department.

Dudley was one of favorite characters from 3rd Strike along with Yun, Yang, Hugo, Oro, Makoto and Alex, even though I still suck at 3rd Strike. I still have my copy of SF Anniversary Collection for the XBOX which I still use. It’s real funny to read people comments on YouTube and eventhubs on how all the 3rd Strike characters are garbage, which clearly tell me those morons…HAVE NO DIGNITY!
