Dubstep

Saw Dj Hype and 16 bit today. Hype killed it with his set people were already tired by time 16 bit on on set. Btw if you go to these events, how do you dance? I swear a bunch of dudes take their shirts off and just shadow box.

I love 16 Bit they’re one of my favorite dubstep artists.

If anyone wants to check out some stuff I’ve made I’m on soundcloud here
I’ve been producing for about 5 months now.
Imo, Pew pew and Break are my best tracks.

whats the name of that anime?

Which genre of house? Electric House music is ass IMO. But that’s just my opinion.

Cyber City Oedo 808, pretty old.

EDM house is my favorite. Daft Punk and MSTRKRFT are my favorite acts. I like some in-between stuff like Deadmau5, Surkin, and Boys Noize a lot, too.

Edit: I had the first part of Oedo on movie CD. Good stuff.

I saw half of this anime 8 years ago, it was on the sci/fi channel at 2am. My parents were so pissed because i had the volume up loud that late they confiscated the cable. I distinctly remember a man using a string to fight against mechanical type lions, but from watching that clip i’ve just realised it was actually a woman.

thanks

Wooo, just found out. Tattoo Rockparlor is starting Dubstep night every Sunday.

If I didnt have the early shift at work id go see Killabits + Ephixia on wednesday at Wrongbar…

I’ve been listening to Dubstep for a while now, I think over a year. I remember when I first heard it I thought that I found something really special, but in the past few months of really taking alot of time to try and find more artists to listen to, I’ve found out that it was fools’ gold. I’ve come to discover that a lot (bad) Dubstep fits into 2 categories, at least for me. One type will be completely random, has no real rhythm to it, and is just simply all over the place. It seems like it has 5 different beats all at once, so its just really a bunch of noise. There are too many examples for me to even give, but I’m pretty sure that for anybody here who has listened to Dubstep long enuff, you know what I’m talking about. Then the other type is very very slow, and the only thing you really hear thru out the whole song is simply Wobble. There is no other type of beat or even a real audible instrument that goes along with it, its almost exclusively wobble that you hear. Now IMO, there are some instruments that can be heard alone and can sound nice, such as a guitar, violin, piano, saxophone and a few others. But Wobble on other hand certainly is NOT one of those instruments. I really hate it when its high pitched wobble too, anytime I hear that in any song I just shut it off.

I personally think I just got lucky when I first got into Dubstep, because I found alot of stuff that I liked back then, and still like now. But Im pretty sure that if I heard 99% of the Dubstep that is out there, which is HORRIBLE, I would have dropped Dubstep as a genre completely and just tried to find another genre to get into. IMO, the best kind of Dubstep is the type that doesnt use too much Wobble in it, and even if it does, it uses a small amount of it. And when I say Dubstep with no Wobble in it, I’m definitely not trying to troll. Some of my favorite songs made by Dubstep artists have no or little wobble in them. Here are some of my favorites that fit into this category…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQniG3PK_jY Elle Goulding - Lights (Bassnectar Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2l1bA1j-kA Damn You Mongolians - Control
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JexT9QR3kaw Damn You Mongolians - Say Goodbye (Would be SOO much better w/o the Wobble)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jpRipeJ2lY Reso - Mind Games
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMCD-YgbNz0 Trowa - I love you so (Remix)

More recently though, I’ve gotten into genres like Liquid DnB, a little Atmospheric DnB, Glitch, a little Electronic Rock, and a few other Electronic artists. But if you guys know any other songs that have that style of Dubstep, I would he happy to hear them.

Damn You Mongolians song was nice, I have also been listening to dubstep for over a year and I liked that song, it had the intro and then it dropped into the heavier part of the song, that’s how most dubstep is. There are obviously different styles of dubstep just like a lot of other electronic sub-genres.

“Control” does not have “8 different beats” nor is it “all over place” that song is going at a steady rhythm just with kick on 1st beat and snare on 3rd and some fills here and there. Then it drops to the verse.

If you don’t like the sound of the wobble that is a different subject, you just don’t like this style of dubstep.

As far as ‘older’ dubstep goes I think this is one of my favorite tunes.

Oh and anything by Skream lol.

This is how I feel about EDM as a whole. I first encountered what we laymen all called “techno” on MTV’s late-night music video block. Future Sound of London, DJ Scott Project, Daft Punk…

I think most of the shit I liked then (cherry picked at the time!) is awful. Daft Punk remains my all-time favorite. It took me years to figure out all of the stuff that endured was House music (with the occassional genre splice).

Dubstep is lost on me, just like trance and so many other genres. But I get why people like it.

I’m always on the lookout for that next killer track.

As far as Control goes, I certainly wasn’t putting it into one of those bad categories of Dubstep I was talking about it. Control is type of Dubstep that I like and I’ve gone thru tons of DUbstep and just have not had too much luck finding artists with that specific style. My absolute favorite Dubstep artist is this guy Robokop. IDK if you’ve heard any of his work, but its pretty good. He does use some Wobble in his songs, but I feel like it actually follows along with the other instruments in the song and actually has good rhythm. Here is his SOundcloud if you wanna check him out http://soundcloud.com/robokopbeats/tracks.

Any electronic genre is going to have a million sound alike tracks and only a few real stand alone bangers in a given year or even over its entire lifespan.

Its going to be about the songs that are throwing new sounds into the dubstep formula.

i like this band a lot though its taking forever for their new album to drop

This guy Sukh Knight has stuff thats alot more “dubby” with more of a steady bassline than a huge drop. Real dope shit.

I was listening to dubstep over 10years ago but back then it was mixed in with drum n bass, i didnt even know it was called dubstep at that time. i’m really suprised at its popularity today though, especially in america.

i think the name dubstep was something that only came bout since bout 2007.

you couldnt tell the difference of dnb and dub step back then.

now dub step has completely changed and its nothing like it used to be.

yh the popularity went sky high, again mostly due video games beleive it or not .
