Wow, with the conversion rate, this is currently $45! Damn, that’s a bit expensive for me, especially when I have to factor in a TEasy board. Stupid failing US Economy…
Sorry, not out of the box. The thing is PS2 uses 4 data lines, so it doesn’t work through the USB plug on the DS. Theoretically it should be possible using the S3 and S4 pins and a RJ45 or similar jack, but personally I don’t have PS2 so someone other than me would have to program it, volunteers?
It’s not “based on” the UPCB, rather “inspired by”. UPCB uses a quite different microcontroller and there was no copy-and-pasting. I have to admit though that without the UPCB code I might not have got the PS button to work, as there was a little detail which is nowhere else documented (a specific vendor request answer).
might? I’d love to hear how’d you’d have found the request and response without it.
we need some testers for autodetect. If you`ve DS installed, know howto use SVN, update FW and have xbox1, PC, xbox360 and PS3 then pm us…
Do USB snooping the one or other way (as I suppose you found it out yourself). If I memorize correctly the PS3 actually sends the two first byte values which do the difference to the device first, so after long fiddling around I might have found it out even without professional snooping equipment. But no offense meant there, I won’t deny that you came up with this solution.
SVN knowledge is not necessary, I will send around links for beta package files.
ahaaaa!!!
I don’t need the stick to work on PS2, but I need it to work on PS3 in BC PS2 mode like the UPCB and Cthulhu do. There should be no need for building PS2 connectors.
It might work with the upcoming firmware, as there has been a change in how the data is sent to the PS3, maybe that does the trick for PS2 emulation… Someone other than me got to test it in PS2 emulation though, as I only have a PS3 slim.
That’s good news, keep us posted !
Both me and my friend have 60gb BC PS3s. When it’s time to test I’ll be able to test on two systems.
added some accessories to my shop www.arcadeforge.de
- USB 10cm A-B cable
- Neutrik Plug
- xbox1 USB Adapter
ehmm, just tested the autodetection. And it`s fully working on all systems Dual Strike offers
Enjoy autodetect on
- PS3
- xbox1
- xbox360 and
- PC
Release mail follows.
Autodetect? Interesting. Time to get that SMD version in a case. Shame I’ve been sitting on it for months…
I got a new batch of atmega chips yesterday. This time using the atmega168 like the V2 dual strike is using. So any new dual strike smd boards I make will have the new functions.
from what i have read, the dualstrike is also compatible in mame cabinets as a keyboard interface? and if so can i use it for a trackball/spinner or would i i be better off using an i-pac/opti-pac?
Hey,
Trackball and spinner is in testing phase and is about to release in the coming days. Advantage against ipac is that DS has on the fly switching of keyboard layouts. You can switch the button layout in-game while playing (if you need). Second Dual Strike has a neat feature for one player cab. You can switch your CPO to Player 1 setup and then to Player 2 setup. This makes 2 Player Games working nicely on one player cabs/ cpo.
And of course you can put xbox1 in your cab. All the emulators are running on xbox1. xbox1 has RGB and VGA support, too. And a PS3 with Dual Strike in a cab is good idea, too. Dual Strike supports here LS and RS making more arcade games work.
I just took a look at the ipac homepage. There is a listing with features that only ipac supports. I go through this list and check the points DS is covering, too.
No Problem
No Problem and more. Besides host software programming you can program/config your DS at every point of time.
No Problem and more. Config are saved in xml. You post your setup to your friend with a similar setup.
hmm. I think I do not list here again all the features. You`ve any questions?
Uhm, no, didn’t find the time yet to start that. And I need those lost pin headers
No, as a textual encoding of the binary data. But the configuration definition is XML. But that should be of no interest except developers, anyways
Auto-Detection: Firmware Version 3.1.0
I hereby announce the new firmware version 3.1.0 with the following improvements:
[LIST]
[]auto-detection of working mode: the Dual Strike detects for the connected host in the sequence PS3, XBox, PC and lastly pass-through (XBox360 for the most dual mods). As before you can disable the modes you don’t need to reduce detection time. The previous behavior is still accessible by configuration.
[]PC mode, the Dual Strike acts as a HID gamepad with up to 13 buttons and a digital pad.
[]The Meta button (to change the joystick mode on the fly, use L3/R3 and so on) can now be selected by configuration (either Start or Select).
[]On PS3 is sending data in one transfer which means less lag (not that it was noticeable before), but the PS3 mode no longer works on PC. It might be that by this change PS2 emulation on PS3 Fattys is working now, so please do tests and post or PM results.

Have fun!
Just to know… how much is SMD version and it’s measurements? Thanks! (i’m planning to do a dualmod with NES controller :D!)
