Ellipse template.
I can already tell youāre the one guy in the group who makes the loud obnoxious joke, laughs really loud, but youāre the only one laughing at your own joke, and would randomly raise your hand up in hopes someone high fives you, but the guy next to you would give you a high five out of pity while the rest of the group tries to find ways to avoid you for their next get together. On a message board, youāll be harder to avoid so I guess you get your kicks here.
My method is the same and a far more advanced version of that one. The best way to draw an ellipse is like so.

I know I shouldnāt be looking at others work and trying to reproduce it, I should be doing my own. and real life objects are better for the development of technique. I did notice that drawing on my phoneās sketchpad has made me more confident with line consistency since there is little to no feed back from the device pen. I just wanted to see if I could ādrawā people since they have always been the hardest thing for me to emulate.
Graphite and black ink which includes markers and ball point counts.
School starts soon. Wonder if any youāll suckas in any art classes so you can draw some naked people live!! DRAWING FROM LIFE IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN DRAWING FROM IMAGES!!
Getting into animation, while maintaining homework for a small art group gathering every Saturday and doing my own personal studies of books provided byā¦ a lot of people (finishing each one by one). 2015 is the year of drawing, spending hours on end leveling up this skill, and I got the time since I work part time at a moving company and itās all good!! ALL GOOD!
Too bad Iāll less time for fighting games. Xrd is actually fun
Iām sad this topic isnāt more active.
Someone adopted me and now Iām learning under some dude at the 2D CG Master Academy. I went ahead and took another class from that place and now my wallet has a giant hole in it. ITāS A NEAT FUCKINā PROGRAM AND LOTS OF FUN, all the while taking personal studies and homework from a Study Group I visit event Saturday.
All this shit costs too much money, first time I had to hit up my parents for money. Damn.
Late EDIT: For those interested
My bad, Iām still drawing but Iām also trying to start a life drawing group in my area. Hopefully Iāll earn some money doing something I actually enjoy.
Been busy myself, but still drawinā away.
Iāll share some stuff when I get home.
At this point, Iād just like to get cash to afford these classes.
But my in the long run, for some reason I donāt really care about making money with my art. I dunno, Iām still a scrub, but weāll see whatās up in the future. I hope to have something of decent quality around Summer.
This is a chibi drawing of Kuvira from Legend of Korra: [details=Spoiler]

And this is a self-portrait. This one might go into the annual student art show. I used a mirror for this.

Right now Iām trying to focus on one style to draw my OCs in. Iāve been getting frustrated with character drawing because Iāll attempt one style but start over multiple times because Iām subconsciously worried about other styles.
Same here, I have very little interest in selling art but Iād like to make money by running a life drawing group if I can, and there seems to be a lot of interest in my area.
Hereās another book that Iād recommend that was released in Nove/December last year: http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Render-Fundamentals-Shadow-Reflectivity/dp/1933492961

Oh for sure, you should go for it. A lot of people out there hungry to get better at drawing but no one knows where to go about improving. Setting up a life drawing session would get some people in there. Itās like they say, man, if you build it, they will come.
Long term, I actually want go about making my own video game, so Iām diving into the subjects as to what creates a game.
Got muah programming skills (they are weak but I have a strong idea how to approach it), can make music but itās also weak, and my art skills are weak. IāM WEAK IN EVERY THING!! But yo, leveling up each skill one at a time. All of 2015 will focus purely on drawing, then Iāll spend some time on programming, and then music, all the while drawing it out.
For school, Iām simply taking classes thatāll help me improve in these skills, I honestly donāt care about a diploma, as long as I can find the resources to level up these skills to create a good/decent looking game, Iām happy.
I feel like fundamentals is such a huge step to tackle, but once youāve learned your fundamentals, youāre good to go since itās all about practicing execution from there. Artās fundamentals is quiet large compare to the other activities, WHO KNOWS!
Figure drawing is hard.
One of my classes is entry/beginner level, but damnā¦ I feel like they jumped to figure drawing too quickly. The teacher uses a lot of his material based off of Loomis and is using Figure Drawing for All itās Worth, but Iām told by others not to use that book till you have a strong understanding of Perspective and read Loomisā Successful Drawing.
My CGMA class for perspective is super legit, so I may not have to worry too much about that. I picked up Scott Robertsonās book How to Draw (which is 90% perspective) to get another view point on perspective, and I want some more exercises on my spare time so Iām also getting Sketching The Basics. All the while, Iāll start looking at Hamptonās work for figure drawing while I try to finish Successful Drawing by Loomis.
Drawingā¦ I need more Drawing!
Iām making the transfer from traditional to digital, wondering if anyone knows any tutorials to provide info or effective ways in drawing on a tablet (well, the Wacom Intuos Pen Small Tablet).
Iām actually very familiar with photoshop, used it all the time to make avatars here on SRK, even made flayers for several events around my city and even created my own brushes. But I donāt know how to incorporate my tablet into photoshop. When I see people stream drawings, they seem to have these specific brushes or somethingā¦ I donāt know what they do.
Wondering if anyone could provide some insight.
For digital, sometimes you can adjust your settings so it emulates traditional work as much as possible. Other times, default program/brush settings work just as well. Some of the artists I watch on Youtube (Feng Zhu for one example) use a plain brush at default settings.
For rendering, digital is a completely new ballgame and different skill, and itās up to you to decide whether to exploit it. Itās really important to maintain your understanding of lighting, perspective, composition etc. because thereās a lot of different ways to put it on screen compared to traditional resources.
Ah, was wondering about something more basic like how to ease into myself into the experience. It feels so odd drawing with a tablet, and when I watch streams of other people draw, I kinda notice they all start the same way (next time I watch, Iāll have to check what they do again). But I do notice a pattern that everyone shares when it comes to using photoshop and drawing.
However, I was more or less curious to understand what are useful hotkeys and so on, yaā know? Iāve seen people draw say, a box, and after the box was done suddenly they were able to color it gray with anything else appearing on the screen.
Itās just a learning curve, then you decide what you prefer. You can map the keys to your tablet, some people map them to their keyboard. Hereās a random example:
http://i.imgur.com/5baPlmp.jpg?1
Thatās kind of similar to my setup (I use a Cintiq 12). I have keys mapped to make straight lines, select all, increase/decrease brush density etc., but most important for me is mapping brush size to the touchstrip, and the eyedropper on the main button.
Speedpaint videos on Youtube did help me figure things out. 5 years ago I was really clueless about digital painting, but after a bunch of videos and practicing, I think I more or less have the hang of things.
Iām currently just doing Peter Hanās exercise on photoshop while attempting to take tutorials from ctrlpaint.com
I needed to go digital since my Perspective Class basically demands it. Weāre basically going through basic and advance perspective and at the end of the semester we have to make a world of our own. Doing this all traditionally is way too time consuming so much so, you lose quality in your pictures due to time. But being so new to tablet, I hope I can get something decent in the next 4 weeks.
I will say, even in my current state, you can get things done soooo much quicker.
EDIT: I know this sounds kind of stupid but Iām also using my tablet to play Grim Dawn on it to get used to it faster.
Grim Dawn was a game Iād play when Iād have some down town (like a good hour or less) and just mindless beat mobs. Having played Grim Dawn is actually making me more and more used to how to the position of the stylish works.
Man I really respect pozerwolfās determination. Which areas of your art work are you currently lacking in the most?
Hereās a list of my favourite artists and some of their work. One page per artist.
