Dragon's Dogma (From the director of DMC3)

I just got this, I can choose to have level 80 somethin pawns with me right away? Does this hurt me in some way I’m not aware of?

They’re gonna do hella damage and have a butt ton of quest knowledge. Three level 80 pawns in your party should be able to take you everywhere in the game as soon as you pick a quest.

Yeah if you want to have a more challenging experience just stick to using non-friend list pawns. Otherwise all your friends with high level pawns will just straight grab you by the hands and send you flying through the game.

So those high level pawns I’m seeing for no cost are pawns that came from my friend’s list? Yeah I’ve got the starting guy, my main pawn, and then this level 82 strider lol. I’ll probably ditch her and grab one of a comparable level. Just wasn’t sure why they were so high level in the first place, now it makes sense.

Wow, that sucks… no hard mode, no better NG+.

^Oh well. :-/ I suck 160 hours into the game so I actually don’t want any extra content unless it’s new areas or enemies.

Man, Valkyria Chronicles added an EX-Hard Mode, and that shit was awesome! Cost $2, but that’s worth it.
Capcom, why can’t you do the same?

I don’t know why, but I got extremely bored with this game. I <3 the OST, tho.

If you got bored after you beat it then it’s probably because you beat it and honestly what equipment you use doesn’t matter as much when you hit a certain power level. Which to me is a good thing. This game did a great job balancing real time combat with RPG tropes. Only problem is you really have to have some devilishly good AI to match players who can do all sorts of crazy shit to fight back. Point is, Dragon’s Dogma is a great first step and I bet in the sequel we’ll see some real solid challenges and more enemies that match us in terms of intelligence. I hope that’s what next gen consoles can deliver to us more so than wicked cool graphics.

No game that’s been released so far and a couple months prior to this can compete.

Great RPG Capcom.

The official artbook came out and some guy is sharing it online here —> http://imgur.com/a/y24Vm#0

Some interesting things to note from the artbook that didn’t make it to the final game:

  • there was supposed to be a monk and spearman class
  • a beastman race
  • giant, SOTC-sized monsters
  • Mercedes’ original design had hearts all over her armor lol

-I get what the spearman might do but the monk? Possibly hand to hand or bo-staff combat mixed with a lil’ bit of magic?
-So extra hairy humanoids? I’d only be interested in them if they can climb like the player.
-Well honestly the Dragon was SotC sized lol. I think the size we have now is fine for all the bigger monsters that way getting to see them more often doesn’t fatigue us. I think fighting SotC sized giants over and over might get a little tiring. Big story bosses are fine SotC sized.

  • Lol terrible. They hate this poor woman.

Where the f is the English version of this book? Udon get on it!

I would like to see more polearm users in rpgs, especially open-world ones. The last time I remember playing a spear user was in Morrowind and honestly combat was ass in that game. For a sequel to Dragon’s Dogma they can do some pretty sick stuff with it, and I can imagine something like using a spear with a dire gouge ability or using it to help stabilize yourself on enemies. Maybe even a pole vault like Eric Lecarde from Castlevania Bloodlines. That would be badass just self-propel yourself to grab a griffon.

nice to see a new IP from Capcom not completely getting ignored. I’ll play DD someday…

Dayum I coulda been running around Gransys as Leo from Red Earth?

(On that note they should just start raiding the bestiaries of other games/table top games for the sequel. Variety is desperately needed.)

I’d like that as an enemy only really. I like that it’s man vs. everything else in DD. It’s such a story about mankind and mankind’s ambitions and mankind’s follies and mankind’s other issues. Plus all the pawns are humans too. Lion dudes definitely would have made for great melee combat opponents. I feel like you do really get to use the shield and counter moves as much when so many of the enemies aren’t attacking where you need to always be on guard. A Lion dude with a sword could make you put up your defensive game.

  • I have yet to complete this masterpiece. Ignorance: on. When the credits rolled and there was more stuff to do as the world went dark, did that mean that I beat the title?
  • Madeline’s original concepts fair better with me.
  • I’m surprised that Capcom didn’t throw in Red Earth hidden pawns yet. Dungeons and Dragons neither. That would have been boss!

There’s more to the game, just go to Gran Soren to unlock the last quest. Also the monsters in the wild have been replaced with harder versions. If you go to conqueror’s sanctuary, altar of the water god, and BlueMoon Tower, you fight stronger versions of Drakes, Wyrms, and Wyverns.

Not to mention the challenge quest on the Pawn Guild notice board and the Everfall. Lots of farming left to do.

Kind of forgot about the potential for good dlc for this game.
