Budokai Tenkaichi 2- Blahh! As a gamer who is used to playing REAL fighters, playing THAT was so frustrating.
I only played because a friend wanted to fight me in it, and talk about a shining example of rock/paper/scissers gameplay.
Basically whoever was the best at getting that first good shot off, could proceed to beat the other player’s ass with no retaliation. Which ofcoarse was me, and when my friend would nail that first shot i was just powerless to stop him from wailing on me.
The mechanics sucked, were sluggish, and felt more like playing virtual-on than a fighter. Its just a bad game that only fans of DBZ would spend time with. While i LOVE DBZ, i could only take so much of that garbage.
You know I’ve bought Budokai 1,2, and 3 and Tenkaichi 1 and 2. I know I’m gonna end up buying this cuz I collect PS2 fighters but man I really don’t see myself getting into this installment, especially since the only people I know might get the game won’t be decent at it at all. It sucks when there’s no one good to play.:shake:
Power Guarding Blocks burst rushes in b2 but you it guard crushes you im not sure whether or not they still keep their ki… so its kind of useless in a way…youre better off either dragon dashing into it or teleporting it anyways in that game. Im really happy to hear that youre penalized for missing a burst rush now so i dont have to worry about ppl just trying to do them over and over again until they hit me with it eventually.
The DBZ titles were never meant to be quality fighters, that many would compete against eachother in. So there is no point in expecting decent competition there.
As for as the fighting engine goes: BT2 is just a half assed, sub-par anime game to milk the DBZ franchise.
Eh, check this vid out and tell me what you think:

BT2 isn’t a sluggish game, the mechanics are very well executed, and there’s no rock/paper/scissors gameplay involved at all.
And landing the first hit is usually a sign you get the chance to beat the crap out of your opponent in any fighting game. In this game, charge attacks are used as a way to extend combos, but they can be escaped.
Rogafufuken looks alot better, and Spirit Ball… it looks weird, but its more cinematic and looks better. Its one of the UBs that if you land the energy attack, it cuts into a cinematic, like Father-Son kamehameha.

oh man me and gwyrgyn were playing this today, this game is awesome!
the mixup game got a lot better, there’s a high low mixup plus you have to guard some stuff to either side ( shades of VF5!?!? ) whereas Budokai 3 only really had one block.
i love the flurry evade + counter system which when pulled off correctly almost feels like a sabaki or something, the Z counter thing seems very precise and feels like just defense.
this game is nuts! recommended.
I would like some feedback on my peoples:
Vegito
Vegeta(cell saga)
Broly
Bardock
I plan to buy this game(US release no offense) so I would like to hear about it from someone who knows this game. The people I played in Tenkaichi 2 made a poor selling point of gameplay.
I hate Spike for it. I really, really do. I used them all the time in competitive play and they added a ton of depth to the gameplay. Now that cancels are taken out, the game jumps back a few steps…
I’m adapting to it though. No use in complaining.
By the way, Vegito, Cell Sagas Vegeta, Broly and Bardock have been muchly improved in moves and flashiness since T2. You’ll be happy once you play them.
something else i’m wondering…since they took out charge cancels…did they take out the ‘OH SHIT YOU BLEW UP THE WORLD’ cinematic? cause i’ve seen spirit bombs…and i’ve seen super vegeta’s final flash…and nothing has happened…I liked those…:(…especially the ones from b3
Thank you my good man. Congrats. You just fully recruited Tenkaichi 3 player.
What are these charge cancels? Is it when you charged up an attack but used it as a feint of sorts? I haven’t played Tenkaichi 2 since last year so I can’t remember…
You can still destroy the world, but most reports say that only a few moves can do it. And yes charge cancels are where you would charge one of the attacks(for a big smash) and then cancel them back into your default stance. I’m hoping that they just changed the command for it, but I’m not holding my breath.
…you sure?..cause…i’m pretty sure a spirit bomb should be enough to do the job…>.> but i’ll take your word for it…anyway i was looking for a vid that i think was posted in this thread awhile a go but i can’t find it now…it had a ssj2 gohan doing his father son kamehameha in a beam struggle and he won out and it cut into the cinematic…unless i’m mistaken
