You mean the reason that hasn’t been stated yet that I personally would like to hear?
Hey, I’m agreeing with you, buddy. I play this game because it is a pretty true DBZ simulator and it’s a really unique fighting game. However, if I want the real, thought-provoking deal that makes this business so great, I play Third Strike
Honestly, what hype? The problem is the SDBZ lacks hype, if there were any it wouldn’t be so underrated.
Why treat “legit fighting game” and “DBZ” as mutually exclusive concepts? SDBZ is exactly that.
I mean, the amount of influence from Capcom fighting games like SFA, SF3, VS. series, and others thanks to Noritaka Funamizu’s involvement is pretty evident. This is the closest we have to “What if Capcom made a DBZ fighting game?”
Unfortunately, since it doesn’t have the “Capcom” brand attached to it it is inmediately disregared by both sides (fghting game enthusiasts and DBZ fans).
To a degree you can fly and blow things up in SDBZ.
That’s precisely the mindset that has been hurting SDBZ all this time. :bluu:
That’s the thing though. I don’t even have a Capcom bias. But it’s just, why would I want to play SDBZ over other fighting games that are better and much more refined? Again, I OWN the game, and know its potential. Yet, it’s not really enough to keep me playing it over something like BT3 or other fighting games.
I’ll bring a comparison for my point, and it’s a bit of a stretch, so stay with me. I compare it to Street Fighter X Tekken. Two good franchises teaming up to make something with the best of both worlds. However, my problem with it, as is my problem with SDBZ is this. Both franchises will end up sacrificing something in the final product that will end up falling short on expectations (it’s even more extreme on SFXT since TXSF is also being made). My point is, why try to meld two things together to make something, that while possibly good, is not as good as the fronts as you would want both sides of the collaborations. In SDBZ’s case, why would I want to play it when I feel like I’m more immersed in the DBZ world in BT3 and I have better fighting games elsewhere? Like my problem with the Capcom/Namco collaboration is why make those games when you could focus moreso on another Street Fighter or another Tekken and really go stellar on those rather than lowering it a bit to try and bring in the other franchise.
I see where you’re coming from; the SFxTk example seems fit for comparison. However, SDBZ eventhough clearly made compromises as you stated, those were more on the DBZ end – by this I mean, in relation to games like Budokai or BT. The game is pretty solid – and refined – game; the most recent match footage available at Nicovideo is proof of that. But even if you (or me) don’t have a company bias, the truth is fighting games popularity is governed by said bias.
I reckon, SDBZ greatest feature (the Customization System) is also what scares most people away, since it can be a chore for some folks to unlock all the “fighting game mechanics” contained in the Skill Trees. I’m pretty confident had that feature been removed and instead all those elements being incorporated into a full readily-available gameplay the game would have fared better in the fighting front.
Except I’ve done most of the Skill Trees in SDBZ. I played that thing to death, yet I never really had that much fun with the game. I enjoyed many fighting games over SDBZ (not really that much of a knock on it, but that’s just how I feel, not saying it’s bad though). I watched the videos you spoke of too. Even then, I’m not that impressed. If I ignore the DBZ aspect, I still find myself feeling that I’m playing a lacking fighting game, and if I don’t ignore it, I get more annoyed.
Well, if with everything it has to offer it hasn’t filled your expectations then there’s isn’t much left to do.
I guess it has to do with the fact that it isn’t neither full 2D or Tekken-like. Personally, that’s what I enjoy about it, the combination of 2D gameplay in a 3D environment; had SSF4 gone with that route it would probably have been panned.
EDIT: Sorry for this getting in the way of BT3 convo in this thread.
It’s cool. You’re feeling the same pain as me (the OP and (hopefully us?)), which is that no one plays this game, even though we think it’s fun and great.
Exactly. Why not just watch the anime.
Sorry, I don’t see why I should waste money on shit that is “merely playable” for just a license. With that stupid logic, I assume the supporters in this thread put down the money for every movie followup garbage like the Spiderman games, Iron man, Fantastic Four, etc. I used to be a huge fan of DBZ back when I was 14 and didn’t realize it just a soap opera for young people with power fantasies. Well now I see just how stupid it all was, so if I’m going to play a DBZ game, than the least I can have is a good system. I want to have my cake and eat it too, and BT series doesn’t cut it.
People are basically saying just because its a DBZ game it shouldn’t have a good FG system…do you realize how retarded that is.
That is retarded. You can have a fighting game based on a manga/anime and have a good FG system. JJBA is one such extreme.
If you like playing a simulation, that is fine. However, for me, I rather not play a game with 100 or characters and there really are only 10 or so variations.
It is retarded, because that isn’t what people are saying. We just have different priorities. People like “simulators” because it allows them to do shit they can’t normally do. You can’t control a TV show. That’s why playing BT is a different experience than watching DBZ.
Moreso BT is a FUN game. It’s fast-paced, everything you do is satisfying, and it’s got a lot of style to boot. If you’re the type of person that has to have a competitive mindset with every game you pick up to enjoy it well then this game isn’t for you. No need to hate on everyone who wants to see what this game can do.
To an extent, BT is a casual game, and it should be enjoyed for what it is.
Guys, please don’t feed the troll.
I only responded because people said straight up in this thread that they thought the DBZ games were better when they were moreso a simulator than a more traditional FG system. And some of us find a game more fun because it has more room for a competitive mindset.
SRK still doesn’t know what the word “trolling” means, I see.
So anyway… anyone still wanna talk about the game? Any questions, requests…
Yea sure, what options are there for characters when rushing down? How are some characters better at this?
I’ll quickly answer this question, since I’m about to go to sleep. Assuming it’s with both characters already standing (not on wake-up), basically, I like to get in there are start shooting first. I dash while mashing tri, then squ when I’m close, since they will probably be dashing at you doing the same. They might be charging a punch, but I’d still rather be doing a sequence of punches. While you’re punching, you can tap O and a direction to teleport around them, so even if they’re also punching, or still charging their punches up, you will teleport around them. If you do neutral O, you will go into a counter attack position, which will work if they’re tapping punch, not charging it up. Let me think what else… Never grab in this game… it’s really useless. The only times it’s logical to use it, you should be firing basic energy attacks.
Your other option consumes a lot of energy, but it gets you behind the opponent if they don’t have Wild Sense or After Image activated. You can do the L2 + X, L2 + X (neutral the second time) and you will dash behind the opponent.
When you teleport or counter them, basically you wanna do the bnb that pretty much every character has, which I’ll explain on request only.
After finisher, probably use an energy super.
I miss anything you need to know?
Haven’t played BT3 in forever. I’m curious to see what the game would look like at a high level of play. I’ve seen a few videos, but not many
Maybe you could point us in that direction? I’ve never seen a video of a really good player of this game. I intend on making some videos within the next couple weeks to back this up, but I’ve never seen someone on Youtube that I thought I couldn’t beat with relative ease.
To be 100% honest, there really isn’t a way to rushdown effectively, considering the defensive mechanics in the game. The issue with BT3 is that the game has specific mechanics for every offensive option in the game, a lot of which can be used on reaction. It doesn’t help any that there aren’t really any safe pressure options. And even when you get a hit in, there’s zero cost for escaping.
BT3 pretty much rewards being able to abuse the defensive mechanics.
In my experience, this part is true. I think most of the damage is dealt through rushdown while your opponent is out of blast stocks. Turtling is impossible in this game as a win strategy. I think you can only do it to wait until you can transform, but you’re going to win via punching them unless you’re Hercule, or maybe Vegeta?
