i rather liked the “zip behind your opponent/they zip behind you/you zip behind them/they zi etc etc” madness of B3
Yea, I didn’t buy that either, so I tested it. This was all done w/ normal characters and the combos were tested on Spopovich.
In a basic A-tap combo, regular Teen Gohan does 7 hits for 2880 damage. SSJ1 Teen Gohan does 3120 damage in the same combo. Oddly enough, SSJ2 Teen Gohan does 2 additional hits in an A-tap combo, but does the same damage as regular Gohan’s 7 hit ‘A’ combo(2880). I also found that SSJ2 Teen Gohan’s grab does 110 more damage than regular Gohan’s, but 210 less damage than SSJ1 Gohan’s. You would think SSJ1 Gohan is the way to go, but then again, SSJ1 Gohan can’t use 3 Blast Stocks to boost all his stats and go into instant Max mode like his SSJ2 version.
One other thing I want to address is Ginyu. It’s seems whenever I use Body Change, 30% of the time, he changes into an entirely different character than the opponent. It tends to cause the game to freeze shortly afterwards. Is anyone else having this problem?
I was saying that I think Broly IS probably always better as LSSJ, but certain other characters arent’ necessarily.
Ginyu for me seems to change to Goku a lot of the time and it’s never frozen my game. I’d need to go back and check later to give you more confirmation.
It’s not just Broly though I just used him as the easiest example. Broly when turning LSSJ becomes a fucking tank. He easily steam rolls over about half the cast if they every try to attack him head on. Teen Gohan gains access to what is quite possibly the fastest Kamehameha in the game for only 2 bars. Late Goku IIRC doesn’t get access to his instant transmission until he’s transformed (I"m not sure of this…I’d have to pop the game back in to make sure) , and dealing with a high powered goku who can suddenly be behind your back at any given time if you’re not looking for it dangerous…then there’s warp kamehameha. Most of the higher powered characters generally get more a few more mix up options as well in hand to hand with side hits. It’s usually not just a change in movesets.
Man…next time Warna Brother comes over we’re popping that shit in…I’m starting to get a craving for this game again.
My point is that more characters can exploit the not having to transform over characters that get the strength bonus from transforming. And I disagree with Broly “rolling over half the cast.” He was pretty sick in BT2 (although I wasn’t great with him,) but losing the rush factor of Giganitc Hammer ruined him IMO.
And yes, I wanna play this too, but against real people who are good ;(
Anyone here live in/around Philly?
EDIT:: I also want you to know I’m not trying to butt heads with anyone. Sonichuman, MD, and digimonemporer sound really competent at this game. I’d love to play with you guys.
hell yeah.
i forgot to mention that in infinite world the characters can fly not just toward and away from opponent, but sideways as well. unlike in B3, where you could only sidestep and thats it.
they can also super dash around the opponent, to get behind them, something like the stealth dash in shinobi ps2.
and i think not being able to use custom characters in Tenkaichi tournys is just plain old stupid.
since, why would anyone participate in one since the fights end up being boring as hell without some individual “recipe” characters.
my Great Saiyawomen gets her B1 after image maxed, and she’s actually fun to play.
having everyone’s characters on normal or breakthrough capsule only, is stupid.
who is gonna face a character like Broly, with a character like Videl, with no option to use customized characters? no one, thats who.
tournys negating custom characters must be boring as hell since everone will be using the same suped 3-5 characters only.
there should be a Superdragonballz tourney. now THAT is what should get started.
and world tournament stage should be the ONLY stage used in tourneys.
since getting ringed out is your job to avoid.
you got ringed out-that means you just didn’t have the skills to avoid getting ringed out. thats all.
Edit:
i keep forgetting to mention that the DBZ tenkaichi games have the original DBZ music in it instead of that garbage music in the u.s.a versions.
that means Shunsuke Kikuchi’s awesome music plays while you fight.
no it wasn’t.
just double tap guard.
stops your falling backward momentum instantly.
Its still an unnecessary annoyance that no-one wants to be bothered with and incredibly lame to boot. If I had a chance to hold a B3/IW tourney I’d do the same thing.
i don’t understand whats so lame about it.
you’re supposed to have a high enough skill level to avoid getting ringed out.
its why all asian fighting karate tourneys have their fights on elevated platforms.
which is why the dbz anime/manga presented to us all the world tournament saga…
with an elevated platform for the characters to fight on.
even if most of them ended up being able to fly 0_o’
hence, why its in the dbz games. except for IW, sadly.
plus, its just that much more exciting, to watch and participate.
two opponents not just being mindful of each other, but where they are location-wise.
just don’t allow yourself to get pushed around so much.
imo, i think the World Tournament stage should be the ONLY stage used in tourneys.
In a tourney w/ all normal characters, Ring Out could be another option for those weaker characters.
if youre at the edge and you get zipped behind and smashed, theres no way to do that fast enough
I don’t know about Budokai, but it’s more than easy to ring someone out in the BT series in the world tournament stage.
i wrote a whole wall-o-text of replies and for some reason I lost everything I typed.
so here’s a serious watered down version of what I said:
world tournament stage is banned. because ring out is dumb. it was agreed upon at the time by the community. and there was moves that were abused, that auto ring out. such untechable knockbacks and specials (not to be confused with supers that almost always caused a knock down to the center of the stage after the cinematic part). the shittier character actually failed harder because of that stage. lol. since turtling WAS NOT AN OPTION!
there are tons of reasons why custom characters weren’t used for the game. but basically the community felt that in B3.1/BT3 breakthough/normal mode (respectively) was the most balanced for all the characters.
sure world tournament stage and custom characters is good and all for playing “who gives a fuck casuals” and breezing by in the story mission modes or whatever. but competitively, shit was mad broken and complete ass. almost making matchups unwinable, or completely boring as fuck.
and it seriously forced players to learn the ins and outs of your characters.
let’s not forget a tier list exist in all fighting games. it’s just the way it is.
Has anyone ever been caught in a loop where the opponent does a grab special with long range () and then the special gives enough knockback and stun to charge up for another? I’m probably not familiar enough with the mechanics in the game to know it’s counter but could anyone enlighten me?
Kid Buu is great at this.
I don’t understand where the loop is in the video… The Gohan player is also really, really bad.
It’s not in there. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew what type of move I was talking about.
Oh okay. I don’t think there are any infinite loops of those kinds of rush attacks in this game. I know there were in BT2 (watching the Goten nerf reminds me of how broken he was). You can just hold O and block those attacks and it takes like half a bar of ki, but make sure you have MORE than half a bar, or you go into this really bad stun where you need to charge back up for a while. You can also L2 + X to dragon dash (or whatever it’s called) toward the opponent, and meet them in a punching clash where you rotate the left stick. It was easier in BT2, but it is possibly to simply punch them out if you time it really well, although I don’t recommend it… Also, some characters (most of the Dragonball characters and Goten included) don’t rush very far, and you can just dash back a little and you’ll be out of range. Also, you can use Explosive Wave (L2 + O) defense move that a lot of characters have, or shoot a special energy attack at them when they are in proper range to not be able to dodge it (like Kamahameha or an energy volley).
To avoid this relentlessly happening, try to rush down more, so they can’t charge energy. I’m 99% sure NO attacks in this game can charge back all the way before you get back up.
However, you are pretty much fucked against these attacks if you have no ki left on wake up and you’re really close.
Does that answer your question?
I’m fairly certain u can whiff punch teleport out of that as well. If your spacing is good enough. It’s been a while since I played though.
Christ I almost forgot how amzing a Tenkaichi match can be.
Jwangggg I bet you know of some gdlk BT3 match vids. Can we get some links up in this motha…
I had played this game for a good bit at my cousin’s. Helped me unlock a few characters. I had played it on the wii. Game has a huge cast and I think it’s a little too big. I mean who wants to play as Appule or Freiza Soldier? My favorites were Burter, Goku End, Gohan End, 18, and Arale.
I think the game should’ve had an adult ChiChi to play as. Child ChiChi is cool, but it would’ve been funny smacking people around with a frying pan.
They need to bring back a SDBZ style ChiChi, she was so fun in that game and pretty good.
