Dragon Ball XENOVERSE revolutionizes Dragon Ball fighting games + there is DBO Character Creation

Meh, I thought I’d create an independent thread considering it was giving the game flak and this thread is quite positively oriented. Your call anyways.

You made a separate thread specifically to bash the game…? Where they do that at?

Felt like a reasonable decision, the topic of discussion was quite a contrast from this threads title. Wanted to spark a debate and see if any opinions clashed at all.

What better place to do that than here? Mostly everyone who is interested in or has an opinion on this game posts in, or at least lurks, this thread.

When it comes to GD topics, there’s never only one opinion allowed. Even if the majority of the feedback is positive, you’re fully entitled to make an opposing argument. No one wants to blindly praise the game so, if you have something to say that might sway a few opinions or get some productive discussions going, say it.

On the topic of the thread title… Yea, it’s way too biased. @d3v, you may want to change this to “Dragon Ball: Xenoverse - General Discussion,” or something.

Dragon Ball wishes:

You have to use a wish to get another character creation slot? Laaaaaaaame. Now I HAVE to choose, at least temporarily, between a female Saiyan and a female Majin.

thanks for the vid, but I will avoid that since I rather just discover that stuff while playing. I think I already read a lot of spoilers with the network test data leaks. Well here’s a gameplay video showcasing more combos and customization examples:

The character roster being shitty is annoying me.

We’re missing Cell and Frieza forms for fucks sake, like really?

Why’s SSJ4 Goku’s Kamehameha x10 not red? Little shit like that annoys me lol.

SSJ4 Vegeta’s Final Shine better be green.

Actually, a few pages back, all you saw were people sucking this game off. I was trying to view it as I thought it was (as we had no trailers and only had screen shots): A Battle of Z 2. I was lucky to come back alive.

Watched a few of the more recent videos you guys posted up. I’m definitely gonna wait for a demo or for a friend to pick up a copy before I buy it. The combos look cute, character creation sounds fun, but it takes more than that to make a product not shit. Hopefully, they drop a warningomendemo like they did with Battle of Z.

Well you’re in luck, a popular DBZ YouTuber just began a playthrough of his Japanese copy. Give it a watch and see what you think, I’m debating on whether to watch it or not, story spoilers and whatnot.

Watched a little of it, flying still looks janky as fuck and the player obviously isn’t well acquainted with the combo system. Everything I’ve seen of it so far looks between a 6-8/10 on my DBZ game scale.

Meh 1 vs 1, this game never stood a chance at being a 1 vs 1 fighting game that actually can be mentioned in the same breath as any actual fighting game around now anyway, DBZ games haven’t managed that since Budokai 3 and that PSP game I forget the name of.

Don’t get why people were hyping up the story mode to begin with anyway tbh, I mean didn’t people hate the Game of Thrones game because it was all “Run around and set shit up so the actual important characters can do all the cool shit”, what’s different about this?

Team brawling (or battle royals) is where this game looks like it’s going to shine, it’s something you don’t see a lot of and when you do it’s rare to see much more depth than “Here is your attack button, here is your jump button, here is your block button”, as long as that’s been done right it’ll be worth picking up simply because it has a grand total of one game in that genre which is any serious competition to it out in the west now and whilst Anarchy Reigns is very good, the online community seemed to be on freaking life support when it came to trying to jump into a match last time I booted it up.

This game was never going to be the next coming of the Super Saiyen God’s left testicle, but if it can fill that one job and that one gap in todays gaming landscape then imo it’ll do better than most of the DBZ games since Budokai 3 which were good for the more obsessive fans of the series to fangasm over and fuck all else.

PSP game is Shin Budokai

No love for Burst Limit?

Deleted

No love for Super Dragon Ball Z either?

Really crazy stuff. @drwill439

Character Creation having lots of great options!!

I agree team battles are where it will shine the most, but 1 vs 1 in this is sorely underestimated. Don’t think it has to play like a Street Fighter/mainstream 2.5D fighting game to have competitive mechanics.

People’s expectations for a fighting game are sorely cookie cuttered into what Capcom has dictated its wannabes and the genre to lead towards, but there is more than one right path to design a great fun and competitive fighting game. People have different tastes but just because Xenoverse doesn’t match the specific **“CULTURE” **of fighting game you prefer, that doesn’t make it bad or off track.

Xenoverse combines authentic DBZ 3D free flying fighting elements with the gaming qualities that makes the combat solid. And people have yet to master its defensive qualities, right now people are going more offense, but once people warm up to it you will see greater levels of competition and more exciting matches. Though fighting games really aren’t the type of genre that are spectator friendly, they are much better playing it yourself. even though there are fighting games that have a maisntream following, like EVO tournaments and such, watching those matches are nothing and don’t fully express the sensation compared to playing and participating yourself, it’s always been that way with fighting games.

Living the battle really is indescribable and Xenoverse is one of those fighting games where you really can’t understand how
great the gameplay is unless you learn and play it yourself and fight others that fight as good or better than you.

but of course everyone has their own ideals to what is the “proper” fighting system, but Xenoverse really is better than
people give it credit for. Xenoverse thanks to things like the fighting system, the customization, the character creation,
the city hub, the features, the attributes, the items, really is going to elevate the community and competition and unique individuality even more than other fighting games.

The character creation alone is worth more than a Dragon Ball Heroes sized roster.
There’s a lot more possibilities, builds and flexibility created characters have, that the premade characters can’t match. **

SUPER SAIYAN BARDOCK IS CONFIRMED TO BE IN-GAME AND PLAYABLE I CANNOT WAIT TO BODY LITERALLY EVERYBODY WITH BARDOCK ALL OVER AGAIN, THIS TIME AS AN SSJ.

A lot more going on here than I originally gave the game credit for. A buddy of mine said he was gonna get the game, so I’ll try it at his house.
