I’ve missed about a month or so of this thread and all I learned is that @d3v still hasn’t learned that SRK has become way more casual friendly and competitors and pro players now just stick to private Discords.
I’m in them for GG and SFV. On one hand, it’s great to get advice from top players in a room with damn near zero noise. On the other hand, the regular people don’t get that knowledge and can’t really search for it on forums like they used to be able to.
Cause it stands in direct opposition to the long standing structure of forms while offering only minimal benefit over some thing like irc yet everyone’s treating it like it’s something revolutionary.
The casuals running to forums is what caused pro players to run to smaller communities and it’s not even new. SRK maybe had like 40 posts from Justin Wong from 2000 until 2006 or whatever because he had to go through a number of scrubs just talking nonsense. This problem only exploded once the site and fighting games in general became a lot more well-known.
The response to d3v’s post only goes to prove that. Guy got shamed for (accurately) pointing out that SRK was about competition not playing character favorites. The site has changed since 2009 but I (and I assume many others) don’t think it’s for the better. It happened to Dust Loop, it’s happened here. This has just made competitive players find other avenues to discuss matchups, game mechanics, find other like minded competitors, etc.
No one here is saying Discord is better than having a central page of easily searchable information on a fighting game. It’s definitely not. However, it is improving and making it easy to find said info on the platform while allowing it to remain private to keep the riffraff out.
Sucks for those not invited, though. It’s already proven to create a chasm between those who know and those who don’t when you go to a local or major and do shit the opponent doesn’t know about. But hey, that’s what happens when a site tries to cater to the casuals instead of the competitors.
Both of the guys you mentioned have been competing in FGC for over 20 years and you still know who they are because they are relevant. They still create content important to compete at games at a high level and still place in tournaments. Justin himself is so famous other actual celebrities know who he is. So, what was your point?
Razor does this every now and again, it’s like when Pertho has his monthly old-man yelling at kids tantrum.
I’d prefer if the thread didn’t get derailed to some kinda glorydays argument though, there’s a decent amount of newcomers who just want to learn, if you sign up for an account here you’re at the least showing the will to improve at FGs in general. Yeah sure we get the occasional retarded lunatic like Mobbdeep, but overall - nice dudes. Would shake their hand, maybe.
Also Goku Black is slowly becoming a good character to me because I fucking love the colour of his aura/hair.
