As for the best place to talk about games, just on the aspect of good players and good conversations. Don’t forget that not all people that can talk about games, are good at them. Not all people that are good at games, can talk about them. Its more rare for people to be good at games and be able to talk about games in a knowledgeable way. Hell we can tell from this thread here lots of people think I talk like a idiot yet, whos the one posting all the info? Whos the won that was winning tournaments when he use to actually go? Guess im a idiot because I don’t talk in nerd fighting game lingo.
And thats one of the biggest problems that ever happened to fighting game culture if you will conversation wise in this aspect is the accessibility of frame data. That coupled with the constant standardization of games, constantly getting easier makes me people feel to special for no reason. Oh I know the exact hurt box of this move ive seen it. This move starts up in exactly this amount of frames, has this amount of frames on recovery blah blah. In games now you have people who get butt hurt because someone says the word priority. People will say no priority doesn’t exist dont call it that, youre supposed to say this move is faster has a bigger hit box and a less hurt box than your move. Or… I could just talk like a normal human being and generalize something that doesnt have to be so butt fucking complicated and say this move has more priority over this one in this situation.
Thats still one of the biggest shocks to me when I was a kid and I first entered tournaments and started making money. The idea that we are brought up as kids, that to be a nerd you have to be asian, or have pimples all over, wear glasses, never have kissed a girl is so totally false. Lots of people are ‘nerds’, and if anything the stereotypical anime nerds I found was most often the actual worst at video games, the person who couldnt have a real conversation about games with out over complicating things and talking like a regular human being. Nor were they actually good at any game they talked about.
Now with “anime” games if you will, that started so long ago, that perhaps has a even DEEPER nerd society to it I think there is this thought that… ANIME GAMES ARE MINE. GUILTY GEAR IS MINE. BLAZBLUE BOOBIES is mine! we talk in frame data while these street fighter nerds talk about priorty. Those idiots dont they know my frame data says I win hear if I press one frame earlier than them at this specific distance blah blah.
All again blind to the fact that everyone is a human being people like games, you dont have to be a classic nerd to play them. You dont have to know exact nerd lingo to know how to have a real conversation. Fuck I can tell you in all those combo videos ive done, combos that people said werent even humanly possible I couldnt even tell you the frame data of those combos. How much stun they do blah blah. I just know, this combo was hard to do, this one was easy to do, this one took a lot of figuring out to do. etc
If theres a situation where someone needs specific info, then so be it. Its obviously there, someone will know. Other wise talk like a normal person, because it is normal to enjoy a hobby like video games or anything else.
I mean look at saying people should use discord, I saw a conversation not to long ago people were butt hurt someone said duck hard instead of 2C. Started flaming bashing the dude all over. Mother fuckers probably have never even won a tournament in their life. Think they are special because they use numeric lingo. Sad man. How smart can you really consider yourself if someone say down hard/duck hard never occured that it could also mean 2C.
If anyone talked like that to you at a arcade back in the day they would get laughed at or a weird look. Its like dude… its cool, im a nerd too, you dont need to impress me. Hell honestly actually I couldnt even tell you if anyone would laugh at you. Because the idea that anyone would ever say things like 'two b to two three sex c then super cancel to ’ is ridiculous.
