Dr. Strange Q&A Thread

What’s the easiest way to practice Flames of the Faltine loops? Is there a method to learn this? I can hit them like 30% of the time, but I want to get them alot more consistent so I can kill in one hit. I play team Nemo.

Also, what are some common anchor Strange set-ups that need to be known to play him well in the back?

What is the secret to raw tagging into Strange from the Nova/Spencer crumple? When I do it, Nova doesn’t leave the ground for the tiger knee Human Rocket Punch H. I’ve seen people raw tag into Strange and the opponent has only fallen halfway through the crumple, but every time I do it my crouch H whiffs because it took too long for Strange to come on the screen. I start holding down the Strange assist before I do Human Rocket Punch H too.

Delay the tiger knee human rocket punch. So you gonna do the air combo, ground bounce, call spencer, launch, buffer TK Rocket Punch, then press H. Nova will leave the ground and do Rocket Punch in the air, allowing Doctor Strange to raw tag in.

Either that or you can delay the rocket punch entirely. Its gonna be like what I said in the first paragraph, except you don’t need to buffer anything. Just when you launch, pause for a half second, then TK rocket punch quickly.

Easiest way to practice Faltine loop is starting in the corner then do c.H > IP > S > IP > FoF > IP >…
Not much can be said here, just train a lot. Using the Magnetic Blast motion helps a lot (up > diagonal > side) on the IP. Always aim on the opponent’s feet and not on his body.

May be an old question but Strange says “By the omnipotent Oshtur!” when he activates XF. Oshtur is a part of the Vishanti.

Hello n Gdn to all. Its been a very long time since I’ve come onto shoryuken. Forums. Lmao. But am back n I recently started back playing marvel. My main team since vanilla is wolverine dante akuma(yes I kno d team is out dated) lol. But Justin Wong proved otherwise with d wolverine akuma shell. Lmao. But of recent I also picked up strange n having so much fun:-) I love my wolverine akuma shell to death. Lol. So I was trying strange in sec slot moved dante n it has some find stuff there. With strange sec I now have access to tac’s into flame loop kills. Wit that sain my opp. Knowing this they tend to smash out corners n S to brake tac’s n that give wolverine ridiculous sj l into drill claw rests… Lol. But Wat I wud really like to findout from u guys is, Wat do u guys think abt strange akuma as a team if wolverine dies early in terms of mix ups, zoning/keepout lockdown etc??? oh n strange dhc in wolverine is good. Really damaging. :-))

Like any dedicated Strange player I’m tackling FoF loops. Now I don’t know if I’ve gotten in my own head over how many times I’ve failed this in training mode, but in any video of FoF loops I’ve seen, I’ve definitely noticed that Strange’s sj straight vertical. I’ve seen advice on SRK before mention that vertical space is more important than horizontal space for FoF loops, but Strange’s st.S moves him forward a little, and I’ve noticed that even in my neutral jumps, Strange is still closer to the enemy that I’d predict.

If it is me messing up the jump, I’d assume it’s because I’m inputting the U, UF, F or 896 motion for the first IP wrongly.

So - my question is: Am I jumping wrong and does anyone have any description of the timing of the 896 motions for the [sj xx I.P.]?

It’s just a timing thing. It might help if you try to jump backwards instead of straight vertical. You may also try removing the 9 input and just doing 8,5,6H instead.

All you need to know is that the direction your character will jump is determined by the last upward direction you were holding after the 3 pre jump frames.

Just picked up Strange replaced Doom on my Phoenix Wright/Dante team and was wondering if it’s better to put strange 2nd or anchor?

I would put him anchor. I think he makes a more comfortable anchor than Dante but I’ve found newer Strange players don’t play him with enough confidence to put him last. (I was the same tbh)

Hmm might just keep it Wright/Dante/Strange then, gives me the lv 2 thc with Wright and Dante, if I need it. Just have to learn Strange and the game still XD Also what are some tips for anchor strange?

learn your loops primarily and get a good sense of defensive and rushdown Strange styles. Spell of Ashanti’s tracking characteristic means it is highly useful way to either punish wiffs and impatient dashes (and can be x-factor cancelled into any loop for a touch of death) but can also be used to chip. Many matches I have played with Strange last I try to be conservative with bars. Sometimes, I’ve ended matches simply using S.o.A 3-5 times with the bars I saved up and dealing with chip damage.

Be mindful of his reaches and pokes when you rushdown though. He has no super-guard move even though he’s very frickin’ tall and while crouching has quite the modest reach.

But being able to move between defensive chip damage and offensive mixups is the way to maximise Strange on anchor. Learning not to depend on one or the other is the difficult part, as you can sweep from a 1 on 3 position very easily by switching between Offence and Defence in this way.

Alright thanks for the tips

Np. This is all stuff that works for me and matches I’ve seen Strange come out successful. I don’t know if more experienced players will have anything else to add, but this is what I’m currently doing for Strange anchor.

Is it possible to get FOF loop off a tag that isn’t a crumble

Yes. There’s a thread here full of useful stuff. Not all of them are no-crumple hard tags, though.

Hey guys. I’m somewhat new to strange and still trying to figure things out. I was just wandering what his most damaging sequence is before going into your FoF loops. I know it’s somewhat trivial because of loops but I’m still curious

More FoF loops

Depends on where you are at when you start the combo. You’ll want to get started on FoF loops soon so you can fit in as much damage and meter as you can. So for example in the corner I do, s.MP s.IP xx 2 Red Grace, TK Flames, j.IP, s.H s.IP xx Flames, s.IP s.S into FoF loops. Simple and doesn’t add too much hits to take away from the FoF loops. Moar loops.

Cool, I wasn’t really talking about not doing loops at all tho. I realize that’s the optimum way for strange damage right now. I was really just thinking about the open up, because I thought I might have found something. But it wasn’t as good as I thought it was. Plus I’m sure that someone’s already found it at this point.

Just out of curiosity, is there anything cool you guys can do with the multiple-hitting FoF with specific glyph setups?
