But the buktooth loops requires some serious lab time(one of the hardest combos I’ve had to deal with so far), what would you recommend for someone who is just picking doom up and needs a combo for matches while he works on the buktooth loop in the lab?
The poor mans buktooth loop in the video posted a few posts back is what you can try to go for. It is the most fundamental tools for using and understanding doom, like step 1. If all else fails, just do: j.m j.m, f+h, ad f, j.m, air photon array.
If you can’t do even 1 buktooth loop, then you should either hit the lab before you start using him in matches and just use wesker in the meantime or something; or just do random freestyle stuff til you get a feel for how doom should be played (or do said combo above).
lol I don’t know why but that line had me in stitches. Nah I wanna learn the fundamentals with doom since I believe more goes into playing him effectively than just landing your combos. For now I think Im gonna try and run one loop of the tooth loop into the sphere flame, should be decent damage and teaches me the basics of the loop so I can get consistent with it.
i wouldnt say it requires serious lab time… it was the first combo i got down when i was learning doom
I’d say the hardest part of the buktooth loop is understanding the timing. That’s it. When you get the muscle memory to understand, “input j.M immediately after launcher”, “input ADDF after foot dive H”, “hit j.M after ADDF at this height” the whole thing becomes very simple (especially compared to a lot of other characters who want to reach this same damage output). The biggest hurdle is grilling that timing into your brain. I know when I first tried to do it, I couldn’t comprehend the how to make the combo go past one relaunch.
So no one does the j.M for only one hit in their loops?
I don’t see why you would do that unless you have a reasoning.
I use j.m to hit for 1 hit sometimes depending on what combo I’m going for (TAC combos). But usually not.
As for the buktooth loop, here are a few tips
- hit j.m as soon as you jump up from the launch.
- hit j.m after the ad d/f right when doom finishes saying “foot dive”.
- adding cr. m in the ground portion of the loop makes it easier to do, but is not optimized for the combo.
was thinking to cut down on the # of hits to score some more damage if you plan on finishing with a DHC, but without the DHC i think the 2 hits does alittle more damage than the 1 i remember, was just wondering if anyone happened to like doing it with one hit or if it makes the loop easier, one hit feels alittle less awkward for me…but based on your buktooth loop advice, maybe that’s because i do the loop alittle differently. I always hold that j.m after the ad/df till the last moment, but that’s because I do the dash early as hell, i’ll try your advice out and hold the dash till he finishes saying dive and then do an early j.M.
Thanks for responding btw.
Not sure what you meant at the last part about holding the dash til he finishes saying dive, but that may have been my fault with the wording so let me clarify any confusion:
2. During the loop, when you do f+h in the air and cancel into the ad d/f, right when he finishes saying foot dive is when you should do the j.m
Hope that clears up any confusion.
Hey everyone first time posting in the UMVC3 forums I’ve been working on this combo for the past couple days with my DOOM/VERGIL/SENTINEL team. Lemme know if I can further enhance this combo.

I mean to say the j.M after footdive, not the df/d. I’m surprised they won’t fall out if you do the df/d that early and the j.M also early, but I’ll try it out since I’m sure you’re much better at that loop than me. Are there any audio/visual cues you use to time your df/d or you just input it immediately after the f.H?
Ok so I started practicing the loop, I got the corner loop down, shit is pretty easy tbh. But the mid screen loop, the dash down after the :f: :h: I don’t know how to explain it but it leaves me kinda too high to hit the cr. afterwards. Is this like a popular problem? And if y’all have any idea how I can rectify this please feel free to share.
you’re too high?.. are you doing your first j.m as soon as you can, F+H, Airdash down forward, pause a split second , j.m just like that? i dont think ive ever been too high to hit the j.m
Hmmmm, maybe we are talking about two different combos(or I was practicing the wrong combo lol) what Im doing for is magic series launch j. x 2 :f: :h: air dash down cr.
:h: :s: etc. What combo are you referring to?
i was referring to the buktooth loop, are you doing j.m two times? or do you mean you let it hit twice? im not too sure what combo you are going for…
Im doing 2 mediums, but yea I just realized I had forgotten to do the air dash down before the cr.
, lol spent hours practicing the wrong combo last night. It all makes so much sense now. Thanks for the help man.
it should only be one medium j.m going up, but let it hit twice
Thanks man, nothing worse than realizing you’ve been doing the wrong combo. Just found this on youtube for anyone else struggling with the loop, I know its old, but hey theres prolly gonna be an influx of new dooms soon so it might help make sure no one else makes the silly mistake I made.
In terms of combo extensions, I noticed you haven’t used your wall bounce yet, so there’s probably a way you can incorporate that into the combo to do more damage and kill Thor. I don’t use Vergil personally so can’t help you out there.
For all you team clockwork fanatics as in mvc2 team clockwork:
corner loop till you maxed ourt hit stun then
call drones, :qcb::s: Flight J. :qcf::h: Flight J. :qcf::l: flight J :s: call strider J. :qcf::h: J. :qcf::h: j super finger lasers
does 950k damage for 1 meter
