This looks like ass. I remember buying DD2 when it dropped on NES and thinking it was ugly then. If they were going to reuse old graphics they should have built off of DD Advance. This isn’t Mega Man, or RCR that have art styles that are still solid. DD2 was ugly then and it’s ugly now.
So it’s more than 2 years late and the beta is just now getting out? I get it. Games take time to make. But this is basically a 16 bit game. So sick of kickstarted stuff and delays that are at least 2 to 3 years off the original release date. What’s the point of giving release dates and then never ever coming close to them? Just to keep the hype going I guess?
If Double Dragon had the technology in 1987 as it does in 2017, then we would have heard the official original soundtrack of the game in the arcade instead of the original music being slightly altered because of the 1987 technology. This is how the music really was supposed to sound in the game:
I also loved Super Double Dragon…as much as one can love a beat-em-up (which is play it once, then don’t fire it up again in 3 years as to avoid getting bored). The “lock arm” technique was so goddamn fun. Multiple kicks to the face = hilarity.
I also didn’t mind NES DD 3. To me it was actually easier than DD 2. Cuz fuck platforming in a beat-em-up game.
There’s literally NO way this game is going to beat Advance in gameplay, but I hope it at least has the entire move set from NES DD1. It’s not that hard.
Also, I see a LOT of retroactively GOOD posts about Neon lately. These people need to die. But the music was dope as fuck though.
I wouldn’t be able to tell you if it was awesome or not. I looked at it and said “oh, they are clearly trying to attract pre-schoolers with this art style” and decided to not download it.
Retroactive? Not only was Neon great but, i seem to remember it being well-received at the time. Loved Neon. Beat it on all difficultys, maxed out every special move, and put in about 34 hours gameplay time overall.
It was a $10 download-only title that felt like a full-fledged, $35-$40 disc release.
Stylish graphical artstyle, great beat’em up gameplay, cool variety of special moves to play with (loved the various tricks/traps with the bomb!), cool enemies and bosses, great 80’s style soundtrack, and overall spiffy presentation.
It was everything an overhaul of a classic property should be.
I thought Neon looked like shit too aesthetically, but have you actually played the game? It’s pretty fun.
Yeah, the counter move is awesome. That game had so much going on. Counters, divekicks, double jumps off the wall(into DIVEKICK!) some unique moves that could only be done with specific inputs, nunchucks and a super meter that when you fully charge up is equivalent to popping X-factor. 1991 and it had all of that going on with a sick OST.
