Double Dragon IV having (18?) playable characters for story mode = the ultimate Double Dragon ever

Quite interested. I really liked the various characters in NES DD3. Technos (original creators of DD) best beat em up still goes to river city ransom.

Have you looked at the release date?

Yeah I have, Originally Sept 2014 the game been pushed back quite a bit too. They are just now talking about releasing the beta to select KS backers (the Pledge CA$ 40 or more COMIC TIMES tier).
Nice seeing Adobo from Double Dragon in the new Rivercity Ransom, I forgot who the white masked purple guy is, but he cameo appearing from another game.

RCR was always amazing cause I used the “River City” term for my create-a-wrestlers in games. River City Cutter, River City Driver, etc. Since a river cuts right through my city.

I’m hoping this game will at least be as awesome as Double Dragon Advance or Double Dragon Neon. It looks fun so far, It seems like there’s cool juggle combos you can do in 2p mode.

I don’t even care if they reuse sprites and stuff as long as the core gameplay itself is solid.

I wonder when we will get a remake of The Adventures of Bayou Billy.
That game was awesome.

Bring back Bimmy Lee or go fuck yourself. :coffee:

Super Time Force

That doesn’t tell me anything.

Side scroller with 20 something playable characters that was hella good and ended up being completely focused and well put together.

I think it was like a small indie dev too. Dunno. Correct me if im wrong.

No clue, never played it.

I didn’t say it couldn’t be good, I said it usually indicates a lack of focus. I’m not usually one to say never, it could turn out everyone’s super thought out and everything.

I’m not gonna hold my breath tho.

I remember that game being hard as hell.

As for River City release date… It’s been a long wait. ‘Should’ be coming out this year.
Has anyone played Super Double Dragon? Always thought that game was underrated. Pretty cool movelist too. River city also had a spiritual successor. Jidaigeki: Downtown special. Awesome game; Could learn 50+ moves and use bosses as your partner.

Considering fighting games don’t lose focus with 18+ playable characters, and fans want even more,
a beat em up has an easier to being focused, especially considering it doesn’t need the depth and complexity of fighting games to be enjoyable and balanced.

if anything, beat em ups are 1000x easier to balance and focus with dozens of playable characters included,
than developing fighting games.

Bring back 2 button jumps with no leeway on the beginning of the Egypt stage losing all your dudes like this is Battletoads too

Because the new guys, ninja and fat dude chin got no kinda dunks man.

I think you were actually supposed to 2player and jump head throw like Akuma Demon Flip… then make the jump yourself. But if you were just 1 player… maybe even gameshark didn’t have unlimited lives for you, try again KID!

I’m fucking hype for this game. I just hope they put Arnold in it from Double Dragon 2.

Yep, own it on SNES. I liked it, but I thought it was a little too easy and despite the moveset, it lacked the diversity of other DD games, like the platforming aspects.

I’ve never heard of Jidaigeki: Downtown Special. As far I know, the spiritual successor to River City Ransom is Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun for the Super Famicom, by Technos. Some say it IS River City Ransom 2, but I’ve read elsewhere that it isn’t. There are English translated carts out there. Below is a video of the gameplay.

That SNES game looks cool, though it seems to be a bit too heavy on the dialogue side.
Man, I remember finding River City Ransom when we smoked weed through the night on a friend’s NES emulator, and played that shit the whole night through.

I also had a football (not gridiron) game on a 3 in 1 cartridge that came with my European NES that had characters in the same art style of RCR.
That football game was amazing. Kinda like a video game version of the Japanese animated tv series Ganbare, Kickers!, in the sense that you had super moves to power up your shots, so they could go super fast, or zig zag around and tackling players didn’t result in penalties.

Was the only football game I ever had fun with.

You might like Mega Man Soccer. It’s the only ‘football’ game I’ve ever had fun with.

are there any actual dragons?

otherwise shit game
