I’m still in disbelief that CDEC does not have a dedicated core Leshrac player. To have your downfall be partially because you were forced into Leshrac first picks is just kinda stupid in this patch.
And then the fourth game draft. I bet there was a collective “god damn it” when the first pick was not Naga but Gyro. Honestly surprised Q didn’t have a Naga given how sick he is with Visage, even if she doesn’t fit their style.
GG EG. Was pulling for them the whole tournament, glad to see them do it.
I’m not sure if the actual decision to go for Rosh was the wrong decision, they just got spotted by an EG ward and they left no one outside.
They should have left xZ outside from the start. When ppd puts down the vortex you can actually see him starting to walk out because they know they’re close, but by then it’s far too late, and xZ has conveniently added another body to the dunk. Sumail was still dead, Fear was still on his way, and Aui was still on his way. If they saw them coming, maybe they could turn it or disengage safely while only losing Clock.
Doing Rosh vs AA/ES with blink lineup and no vision was a pretty pub level mistake, to be honest, EG ward scouting their movement or not. When I saw them move into the Rosh pit I knew it was going to be a god damn disaster. Broke my heart.
If they’re press for time they should just keep grand finals best out of 3. It’s pretty lame that a team got eliminated in a double elimination losing only once. There’s advantage like being warmed up. Max games would be 6 as oppose to 5. Im pretty sure they could handle one more game.
I don’t think there really is a “warmed up” advantage here. These people have been playing Dota for two weeks, playing one more series than the other team on one day is no big deal.
I’m not totally comfortable with the format either but that’s how it is, and the players don’t really care either way.
Incredible TI event. This was easily the best patch out of all the TIs. Undoubtedly. I loved the different comps and meta picks behind this year’s games, but there are a few things Icefrog should tweak to ensure more great Dota.
NERF THESE HEROES
Leshrac. He didn’t get such a direct buff as opposed to an indirect one but maybe focus on an indirect nerf through minor changes with Bloodstone. Leshrac doesn’t lose mid, has absurd damage and utility with lightning, pushes towers fast, and has absurd DPS with Pulse Nova. He was one of the most banned at this year’s TI for a reason.
Tusk. Ice shards, snowball, damage on that ult, etc.
Gyro needs a nerf but a slight one. Maybe a cooldown increase on Call Down. Or nerf Rocket Barrage. That ability makes him way too relevant early game, unlike other carries. Seriously, 240 damage at level 1/
Techies. I don’t think I need to say more. When a hero singlehandedly changes the way you approach a game, that’s an issue. Case in point, AUI2000 doing whatever the hell he wanted bot against iG.
Tusk’s Ult isn’t used for the damage unless he goes damage items (lol), but having an 18 second cd BKB piercing stun is pretty good. If anything he needs nerfs in other departments. Solar Crest and Glimmer Cape need nerfs, but I feel it’s very easy to overnerf these items since they are mid-tier support items, and there aren’t enough mid-tier support items that don’t have shit buildup. What’s wrong with Smoke though? Bloodstone might need nerfs but I don’t know what. Blink is fine I think.
One common theme I saw with every single good mid at TI5 is how they are able to come back or get farther ahead with jungle stacking. That leads to the following questions: do you nerf the heroes that can farm said jungle stacks, or nerf the jungle itself (again)?
Techies mines should have a bounty. I really wish he couldn’t push out lanes so quickly, either.
But I’m still not sure if Techies was so feared because of unfamiliarity or because he’s THAT good. This was quite literally the first tournament where Techies were actually making a real impact, and only 5 teams ran/were capable of running it (EG, Secret, coL, Newbee, CDEC). In a month or two, will people still be afraid?
I mean, he’s right that what goes on is their business, but I’m still having a hard time figuring out why. What in the world would make the other four (even Universe) want to kick him?
The best players can essentially play any role but may take time to adjust after a bit. Still, I think this shit is super scummy so soon after TI… and Aui didn’t even know about it. No team discussions. Just all behind his back. What the fuck. Fuck EG. Scummy team. Was never a fan and never will be now.
well the problem comes from the fact that the patch itself supports early/mid-game fighting due to the increased gold in kills. this makes flash farming mids (lesh sf storm) to be really good picks since not only do they have their items but they have the choice to join fights too. tbh, if you nerf the jungle itself again you technically only hurt carries who need to farm such a heavy amount. i mean sure you slow down flash farming heroes from earlier but they’ll still be able to find a way back in because they have the ability to farm so fast.
idk what the actual answer to changing the meta could be. also it doesn’t help that the new support items (glimmer/solar crest) help in fighting. nerfing the items could definitely lend itself into slowing down the pace of the game or just making the more expensive overall.
EDIT: Regarding the Aui kick, I think it has to do with the way PPD runs his shotcalling in game. There was an interview before where he said that Aui was much more talkative in regards to how the game was going. Maybe PPD wants to tighten the reigns a little. Also I think Fear played support before so this shouldn’t be too bad. Still it does suck for Aui, I wish him the best of luck. He’s so cute <3
