i don’t really like bfly on na personally.
I usually go phase -> urn -> dagon 1 for my main 3 things. Then if I’m doing really well I go etheral for supreme burst. Followed by manta.

BAT is BaseAttackTime of which Beastmaster has the exact same as 90% of the cast (1.7). You’re a fucking retard.
Sharktongue, you might have BAT confused with the damage point of the attack animation. I’ll try to explain everything. Vulpes, feel free to try to correct this, since by calling somebody retarded for being mistaken, you yourself must be an omniscient trove of infinite knowledge. Or a conceited blowhard. I’m not sure which.
Since I’m on SRK, I’ll explain autoattacking this way: an autoattack consists of, let’s say, 20 frames of animation. This has startup, the actual frame the damage comes out on, and recovery; much like a DP can have 3 frames of startup, the frames of hitting somebody, and then the frames they’re still in the move but not doing anything, flying through the air and then landing on the ground. Since this game has movement cancelling for autoattacks, one would think you could just combo attacks into attacks by cancelling the recovery, right? Wrong. Every character has “BAT” aka Base Attack Time which is effectively your character’s base cooldown period for your autoattack.
After you attack something to the point that the damage frame activates (this is why people are able to spam just the startup of an autoattack), your hero’s attack cooldown activates, and depending on a combination of BAT and attack speed/agility items, your hero can’t start another autoattack for a certain period of time. If you have more agility/attack speed, you can shorten the time you have to wait. Keep in mind BAT for the most part will never, ever change. The way a heroes attack speed works involves two things; BAT, and IAS (Increased Attack Speed).
IAS is a percentage bonus that factors with your BAT. At 100 IAS, your attack cooldown is effectively halved, up to a maximum of 400 IAS, in which case you’re attack five times as fast as your BAT. The wiki says the formula is “Attacks per second = (1 + IAS)/BAT”, which seems right by my judgement.
So ends the Attack Speed explanation. Now, let me explain autoattack frame data some more, and I believe in here lies what you are mistakenly calling BAT.
Here’s what is effectively an autoattack frame data chart. Notice two things; attack point and attack backswing. Attack point is the point in your autoattack where your character actually does damage. Looking at Alchemist, his attack point is 0.35, which means with 0 IAS, after right clicking something, he has 0.35 (seconds?) of startup on his autoattack. After that, if he didn’t move or get another order to cancel that attack, he’d be standing there for the 0.65 seconds of recovery. Why stand there and wait out the backswing, you ask? Well, you don’t stand there. You never stand there. That’s 0.65 seconds that could be spent positioning. You cancel that autoattack and move. Especially with ranged heroes. Cancelling an autoattack right at the damage point to continue walking during your attack cooldown (the one we just talked about with BAT&IAS) is called [S]orb walking[/S] animation cancelling and is the most awesome fundamental skill ever.
Let’s say you’re playing your beloved Beastmaster versus an Axe mid for some reason. If you both walk up to the same creep and start last hitting/denying it at the same time, Beastmaster will win. Beastmaster’s attack point is a cool 0.3, among the lowest in the game. Axe’s attack point is a mediocre 0.5. It’s like if Balrog and Dan tried to use crouching jab on each other on the same time. Balrog would easily win, because his jab is three frames or something versus Dan’s 6, or something. (Don’t ask me, I play poverty games, not street fighter.)
Both Beastmaster and Axe/other heroes have identical BATs. Yet Beastmaster’s autoattack will feel much faster, and that is why.
(I didn’t bother to proofread this, sorry about the mistakes. Feel free to ask any further questions.)
I indeed am, but I didn’t call him a retard for being mistaken (note that I didn’t call Negaduck a retard in my last post here, even though he made some outlandish statements). I called him a retard for me saying a correct thing and him sprouting nonsense (“you don’t know what you’re talking about”) while being utterly wrong.
There’s no problem in being bad, we all were at some point. There’s an intergalactic issue with being bad and not recognizing you are, giving out false advice and even insulting the ones who are right.
Yes
That’s a common misconception. It’s simply called animation cancelling.
“Orb walking” refers to manual casting of Orb abilities (eg Drow Frost Arrow), which causes them to be read as a Spell by the game engine (which eg means Creeps in lane won’t aggro, as they only do so when you attack, not when you cast spells - giving you a way to harass without repercussions).
Being right is great and is something I think people should try to do, but the reason I refer to your presence in this thread as toxic is because you often just show up to tell somebody they’re wrong and to stop being wrong, with more effort put into insulting somebody or belittling their opinion than actually correcting them or reaching an understanding.
Yes, people are ignorant. Yes, people have big heads, even when they’re wrong, and people tend to be wrong a lot. Everybody has an ego. Nobody wants to admit they don’t know things. Hell, most people don’t want to put the effort into thinking whatsoever anyway. We all want the enjoyment of having an opinion without the effort of creating a decent one. Within this species, it’s extremely easy to grow arrogant because of that. You appear like you attempt to put in an effort to understanding and knowing things, so it’s not surprising your head is massive. I could go on about ego for ages, but I digress.
But my point is - there are a lot of people in here and in the Dota 2 community in general that are new and don’t know what they’re talking about, but they still love to ignore that fact. They come in from League and consider themselves a veteran of the genre, they speak like a pro and regard themselves as having the grounds to do so. Yes, it annoys me too, but if you’re offended that somebody asserts their misconceptions arrogantly, it’s still harmful to any sort of intellectual discussion to react like you’re, well, offended. You preemptively ruin any chance at effective, reasonable conversation, and reaching an understanding will happen pages later after everybody’s done bitching at each other for being inferior.
In short, it’s usually better to not go from seeing somebody being stupid to assuming they’re stupid and treating them like that.
Haven’t been playing too much except when my friends ask me
Nothing like buying BKB for Enigma and never having to use it.
How do you do Orb walking?

basically attacking someone, cancelling the end animation of said attack (the animation after you’ve done damage/the projectile has left your ranged hero) and moving forward to stay close to your opponent to get in as many attacks as possible.
Centuars new buff is ridiculous. I can imagine how broken Cent with Wisp support would be due to this new buff.
Highest amount of kills, assists and last hits… Three different games, all three losses. I’m pro like that.
Yeah, with the 6.75 trilane buff I thought Centaur was strong enough already. Don’t think he needed a top 5 ulti as well. ^^
Uh where? Your last three losses are a 4-6-6 Lycan (getting outcsed by Tinker and “outkilled” by 3), 2-9-3 Sylla (Outcsed by Krob, more Kills/Assists on everyone else) and 18-6-4 Huskar (same kills less assists than BS, and bought a grand total of 0 damage items)?!
I was referring to my own records - https://dotabuff.com/players/91441388/records
In regard to “0 damage items”, I figured I’d have to end that game early, since they had superior lategame and my team mates were… let’s just say teamwork was lacking. We had little to no chance of winning that when the time went past minute 30.
Tell me, wise sensei, what would you have done?
Oh, I thought you meant you had all of Top CS, Top Kills, Top Assists in your last 3 games and lost each one. Heh.
Lemme look at that later. Will also direct a post @Hawk up there.
Hell naw, I’ll never get top CS 3 games in a row. I can’t carry for shit, don’t have that farm mentality. Not that I mind, prefer the support role anyways.
New centaur is going to be insane. No way that ult stays global, that makes no sense. And it’s on a 60 sec cooldown for 50 MANA? Absurd. I’m glad they ditched the insanely boring +str ult, but this may be a bit much. The 3.8 str per level is just icing on the cake. Centaur is the first hero in awhile I’m looking forward to playing. They just need to hurry and put in Abaddon, I don’t know why they’ve waited this long for him.
yeah, cent is op
Drow has a buff too, lmfao
HORY SHIT. I know two of those people on your team
