One ground bounce per combo.
Too much AE for you.
dorm combo vid
Very nice combos!
thanks man. the best part is that everything in there is practical and they are my go to bnbs. especially the air throw stuff. also people need to start hitting 5C, 6C more often. something like mastacj’s incoming character mixup should kill everyone if you hit confirm the fly C, S into corner rape provided that they actually block the dark hole.
backwards air throw lands faster and makes it possible to hit that dash jump loop on everyone from ammy to zero (might have to start with A, C, S on the very tiny characters). you’ve just gotta watch out in the corner since shit can get crazy if you back air throw a forward tech. they fly backwards and cross you up, but you can hitconfirm 2B, 5S air combo. forward air throw combos are very height/corner specific, but that adf C into jump loop i did on hulk has the best reset potential for crossup into air loop/2B or another air throw or whatever. makes it easier if you adf A so they bounce up higher.
dorm is a goddamn monster in this game.
Hmm, what mixup are you referring to? I always see the incoming character block the Dark Hole, and then he doesn’t do much in particular to follow it up.
Personally, I usually Flame Carpet and Mass Change M on incoming characters, dash down and j.H into c.L, s.S, and it works ~90% of the time because the opponent is so confused.
I’ll have to mess with that some.
I’ve generally been doing a j.LHS series into ground launcher, with a Dark Matter thrown in if the opponent is near a corner. I’ll have to find some time to mess with your setups, because this is all pretty new to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L25txvp8x_I at like 1:54. it’s an unblockable situation.
although, if i’m midscreen, i pretty much do what you do.
I’m not seeing the unblockable - help me out:
- Flame Carpet
- Dark Hole L the incoming character (risky against Sentinel there)
- j.H
- Sentinel gets hit by Flame Carpet (why?)
- Sentinel gets hit by j.S (doesn’t combo from Flame Carpet)
At what point is this unblockable? When Sentinel lands on the Flame Carpet, he’s technically air blocking the whole thing, so I don’t think he has to block low at any point. That’s why I have been using the Flame Carpet trap, because the goal is to hit your opponent into the Flame Carpet right as he/she touches the ground.
Maybe I need to test it in training mode, but I always thought his was the case.
but he’s not air blocking when the flame carpet hits him because the dark hole and j.C force them to land so you can’t chicken block it. that’s when the j.S should have hit, though cj ran out of fly time. so to run down the sequence, 3C, fly, dark hole, j.C, very slight delay, j.S. it’s kinda risky against sent, but it’s gonna be awfully hard for him to hard drive a meaty dark hole.
i haven’t really done much training mode testing with this either, but when i’ve tried it in matches i’ve had a lot of success with it. if you do hit the lab with it definitely let us know what you find.
Have you guys seen the Revelation stream?
Philipino Champ may be the worst Dorm ever seen on a stream and he’s top8
By the way Kamui, if you would break some of those air throw combos up (assuming they’re yours) into individual videos, I’d put them in the combo thread. The non-assist ones, preferably.
I’m trying to find the Revelation grand finals to check out PChamp’s Dormammu.
Wow, those Clakey D matches were frustrating to watch. So many dropped combos on Phoenix.
LOL@ the traps killing PChamp in that last match.
Anyway, while PChamp’s Dormammu isn’t the best, I think this is most likely due to:
- Not having assists to back Dormammu up. We all know Dormammu loves assists, and PChamp gave him none.
- PChamp’s blocking not being superb in those matches.
- Not being able to expend meter as Dormammu for most of them. In the one match when he had just Dormammu left, I thought his play was pretty solid. Just your opponent knowing that you aren’t willing to throw a Chaotic Flame out makes Dormammu much weaker.
- PChamp has clearly put the most time into Phoenix; everyone has a focus for their team now, it’s too early for anyone to have mastered three characters.
So, given those circumstances, I’m not keen on criticizing his play.
He doesn’t even know that after a darkmatter you can link a dark hole…
I mean, obviously he has been practicing more with Phoenix, but dark matter - dark hole is one of the most basic thing to know.
He also tried to use dark matter against Clakey D’s Magneto who was spamming Disruptor: the weakest and slowest projectile in the game against fuckin’ magnus lol
I just think without Phoenix he wouldn’t have made to the top8.
That one gave me pause for thought. Very strange choice to make in that matchup.
I was at ReveLAtions and got to play against Filipino Champ and watch some of his matches. He’s pretty solid, and I think his Dormammu is pretty good. Like Karst said, his Dorm might not seem so impressive because he can’t really use his meter and he doesn’t have great assists, but he still has one of the better Dorms I’ve seen, at least. Admittedly, I don’t watch that many match vids.
A few of my matches are on that stream, too, if anyone wants to look for them. Ended up placing 9th in the tournament.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Filipino Champ has solid fighting games skills.
He probably can pick any char and reach a decent level almost instantly just by using his general knowledge regarding how to play a fighting game, but with Dorm he made strange choices and also did some objective mistakes (I’m aware that he can’t use meter because of D. Phoenix). Maybe it was just because of the tournament stress but the only sources at which I can draw informations are the match i see on the steam, so my comments are made in relation to what i see there. It’s possible that in free play he use Dorm differently, but how can I know?
I remember some streamed matches of Ryan Hart and his Dormammu was good, he showed an optimal understanding of Dorm’s setups, unblockable and combos.
Ryan is definitely solid.
Wentinel, if you read this, i saw your matches at ncr: against Ammy’s elements hyper you can block the flame part then mass change and punish her as you want.
Well played anyway
