Yea, it’s a great setup! I’ve been on Dormammu for almost a week now and I’ve been using it a lot. If you are playing Dorm/Sentinel, you can make it even more frustrating to block/guess by:
(Before Character Comes in/Corner)
Flame Carpet xx Sent Drones xx M/H Teleport
s. M and cr. M are pretty good at hit confirming into Chaotic Flame
You shouldn’t let Doom throw out yellow beams at your Dormammu. It’s pretty slow, you can just do s.M on reaction to cancel it out and then punish with Chaotic Flame.
Thanks, for the feedback, i was thinking about what to do when i get on those projectile fights against doom, and sometimes im afraind to throw out that standing M because of timing issues…
It can be hard online. With MvC3’s ass netcode, it’s not unrealistic to experience 50ms delay in a match. 50ms might not seem like much, but look at it in terms of frames:
50ms = 0.05s
60 frames per second x 0.05s = 3 frames.
So, in your average online game, let’s say you’re experiencing 3 frames of delay.
So, with 8 frames of startup, if you’re trying to negate on reaction, you’re adding ~30% randomness through those three frames. Personally, I only use s.M against beams against people whose connections I play on a lot, so I know that the lag is minimal. This is why rollback-based netcode is so essential.
Once PSN comes back up, I’m going to start collecting IDs from people that live in Michigan. All of the good players I keep getting to know on forums are WC.
Anyway, I always look forward to seeing you play more Wentinel, since you use Dormammu for Dormammu, and not just X-Factor Stalking Flare spam, etc. Outside of you, Ryan Hunter, and SYN Aaron, I don’t know any competitive players that appreciate the character enough to play him on point.
Thanks, Karst, I’ll probably be playing on the Offcast stream today (offcast on Justin.tv). The UCI ranbat is gonna start at 1pm.
PapaRhino, I’d definitely play Mag/Dorm/Sent in that order. Mag is really effective without meter, so he’s really good as a first char. He can build a lot of meter for Dorm, who really benefits a lot from having it. Also, I don’t think Dorm can DHC into Mag that effectively, while Dorm’s supers are really good to DHC into.
Haha, I know. I actually wanted to come out to Ann Arbor or Garden City for one of the bi-weeklies, but I don’t have a stick for the 360. I’m moving to Chicago in 5 months, so maybe I’ll have better luck there. I’ve still never been to a FG tournament.
I opened it just now, and they’re doing casuals; I’ll keep an eye out, though.
Definitely. As tempting as it is to use Dormammu with that Magneto assist, Magnetic Shockwave to Chaotic Flame is an infinitely better DHC combination than anything you’ll get going from Dormammu to Magneto. I’ve been noticing a weird trend of Magneto players blowing meter on Magnetic Shockwave just to create space - what’s up with that?
My Dorm looks pretty weak in these. Rushdown is rough to deal, especially against Wesker and Wolverine. Had a lot of blocked S, and I kept punishing with S for some reason. Sometimes when I throw it out, it’s to catch jumpers with the very tip of the launcher.
A few interesting things happen in them though. The “hitting-two-characters-with-CF” glitch happened in one of them, where they pop out way too early. The grand finals vid shows a weird air throw glitch I’ve seen a few times (you throw them in the corner, but they fly the opposite direction). There’s also my throw setup in the corner, where I walk backwards with Dorm after throwing them in the corner, then cr.L when they’re done teching forward. It catches many people because they can’t tell which side they’re on after you’ve walked backwards.
