Don't Use Dan He Sucks

No, that is what footsies are. Footsies are two players moving back and forth at around the maximum range of their pokes, and poking at each other at various intervals to try to score some small damage. Again, you can watch almost any Daigo match to see them in action. When Daigo is doing his c.MK > Hadoken when at around the maximum range of c.MK, those are footsies in action.

So essentially footsies are poke battles, which is pretty much what I thought anyways but I’m sure there’s a ā€œtechnicalā€ definition somewhere :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you for the explanations Krackatoa, Sugami, and Xiahou Mao. It is very much appreciated.

Also, what’s to stop people from playing dan? It’s not about the character, it’s the playstyle that character offers. I don’t get the hate.

Speak of the devil. This is a great 101 on the fundamentals for playing and improving. Courtesy of (Juicebox).

If you actually used footsies you can basically come up with your own definition of what they are.

Oh no you didn’t!

I ask because I’m unsure, I’m sure my own definition is wrong in places (and I did come up with an explanation of sorts).

A good abel player (Juicebox) told me I had potential but my character was holding me back. I wonder if theres any merit to this. Ive tried other characters and havent done well with them.

Well, you know what you have to do now. Practice some more and prove him wrong.

Ive beaten him a few times but he always works me haha. I dont think Im on his level…Dan or not.

Well, are you playing for the Lulz or are you playing to Win? That’s the big question.

I think a lot of us here would choose ā€œLulzā€

We’re playing for the winning Lulz :stuck_out_tongue:

And you know this…Maaannn!

…I play to win for the most part. Sorry T_T

although yesterday i almost lost a ranked because i stunned a ryu and did cr.hp koryu super taunt…but then i noticed I didnt have ultra lol…

I tried maining Dan for a while but got frustrated by his limitations. I do enjoy his style, his animations, his combos, just wish they wouldn’t limit him so much. I found so many wonky things that work against Dan, Capcom had to do a lot of research to make him this crappy. I don’t see the point of making a character intentionally gimped. I’m tired of Dan being so crappy. I’ve pretty much dropped Dan so unless he gets some buffs that’s not going to change.

Well, he’s the hardest character to master. I hope you show some respect next time you fight a Dan player. Specially not taunterrupting! (I’m getting that a lot lately)

Well that’s not true, Viper or Gen is possibly the hardest characters to master, Dan’s one of the hardest to win with :stuck_out_tongue:

Capcom’s a little… well two-faced when it comes to Dan. On one hand they went out of their way to make him part-way viable in SF4; they increased the range of his Gadouken making it a decent poke, make Kouryuken a very solid anti-air and Dankuu being a good pressure and punish tool, clearly a big improvement from his past iterations. On the other hand they clearly held him back in other aspects, really crappy frame data on his normals, slow ass normals, practically zero useful links, Super not comboing properly, Dankuu not comboing properly, Hoah Gadouken loses hits due to distance travelled, lower than average stun and no actual bonus from taunting.

It’s like there’s two separate teams working on him, one team who actually wants him to be decent and another who wants him to be the suckiest suck that’s ever sucked.

You hit the nail on the head Sugami. There’s obviously a division amongst the designers, those who want Dan to be complete garbage and those who want him to be viable.

Also I agree Dan is not difficult to master. He’s very basic. The problem is he doesn’t have enough tools at his disposal. He doesn’t have a good method for countering zoning/pokes/turtling. Once an opponent steps back and starts chucking fireballs you have no options except to block or jump.
With grapplers its a different problem. Dan has to get close to rack up damage, but he’s at a huge disadvantage when he stands next to a grappler. Its a catch22.

I love using Dan cause of his taunts, Dodge a fireball and taunt in the air, or if its Sagat’s standing fireball, crouch taunt and if you land his first ultra and win? and your with a huge group of friends playing? Big Hype moment ensues. lol

I love doing Jumping Taunt over a stupid Ryu’s Metsu Hadouken. Once I did that and ended up hitting him with the taunt, totally worth it :stuck_out_tongue:
