Don't mess up Sega, Phantasy Star Online 2

I guess dungeon crawler is a better term, I just meant MMO as you are still going in hubs and meeting up with tons of people. Is there a specific term as to what category of game this is?

Ya i can’t sign on with the PSN on the PSP to play this. May have to do AdHoc Party for this

Rogue-like. Central hub(s) allowing entry to dungeon “floors.” Diablo/Diablo 2 are also rogue-likes, as is Azure Dreams.

Dr. B is the central hub for dungeons filled with pure Mad Sexy awesomeness.

This is so much fun… Gevurah is level 22 beast now, still with Boggo Val (defense beast) instead of Adaka Val (power form). I look forward to trying out the new Silver and Gold beast forms.

…so I can finally use Excalibur now, and wow that sword is badass! True to the description, you can’t even see the blade until the killing blow…only the wind swirling around the blade can be seen. Now how awesome is that? Yeah. I just hate that the big swords are such slow weapons; the only weapon type that is slower is the axe.

This game just keeps getting better and better. I had quite a bit of time to play today since they were putting new computers/monitors in.

Once you hit level 20 as a Beast, it becomes SO easy to level up since that is when the B-rank missions are available to you…monsters will be way stronger of course, but the exp you get for even the average chumps is ridiculous! Just one of those big bug-looking guys (Astraka?) that spit dammegid was worth well over 1100 exp! If you can survive, you’re gaining 2 or 3 levels within one area! Of course I was killed a few times, but it was so much fun… Gevurah was actually managing to fight with monsters that were 20+ levels above him! This was late 20s though…but still, that’s a level 27 to 29 character fighting with things that were all at least level 50. I was quickly able to get up to level 33 just by playing a few B-rank missions today. Oh and the new Silver Beast form is SO nice. Black form should be possible now if I recall… I haven’t changed into that form yet though…I’ve only used Silver form a few times today. I haven’t spent much meseta either, so I’m sittin’ pretty financially with over 100,000.

I’m probably late on the news, but Japanese DLC actually works on the U.S. version of Phantasy Star Portable 2: GameSpot Forums - Phantasy Star Portable 2 - How to DL japanese DLC Missions to US

I’ve tried this and it works so far…of course I backed up my save beforehand, just in case something screwy happens…it is unfortunate that I can’t understand japanese though.

*There is a Knuckles Photon Art that starts off with a SHORYUKEN! Yessssss. I was content to just abuse the absolutely dominating double-saber weapons with Blade Destruction PA (*Blade Destruction is one of the best, or possibly THE best PA in the game. The amount of damage you’re dishing out with that shit is insane, especially if added on after a decent attack “chain”.), but that PA on the knuckles is just too cool… I’m instantly a fan of those weapons once again… it’s called Bogga Ranpa, if I recall.

The obsession continues…this game is all I want to play right now.

*I found my first axe that actually looks cool…A-rank “Hadernoh”. It’s too bad axes kinda suck compared to nearly every other weapon type…low accuracy, and it’s probably the slowest in the game. Just within the “2-hand power-weapon” category, a player would be better off with a sword or spear.

oh yeah…level 6 new character Dr. Robotnik…just on his 2nd or 3rd Open Mission…I had just beat De Ragan…and BOOM the game hits me with this rare boss Orga Dyran! Man, talk about a game being a douchebag… I was down to a few monomates and that was it… I lasted for quite awhile, but I eventually ran out of those few monomates and the scape doll, and that was a wrap. Of course Dr. Robotnik didn’t make it. Next time, Orga Dyran…next time…

It’s a good thing there’s customization in the modern Phantasy Star games…the design of the new default Beast male looks strange to say the least: Phantasy Star Fan Blog nice…beast female looks hotttttttt though.

There’s also a “Charged Shot II” now for guns, and info on “Infinity Missions”.

Gevurah–> level 76, hunter lv11.
The Gemaga mission from the japanese dlc is still kicking Gevurah’s ass though. Things might change though since I got some better swords and the Lolipop axe, which does ridiculous damage. I thought axes would’ve been slow and crappy, but the PAs are surprisingly good…I’ve seen videos of “anga jabroga”(affectionately referred to as “jaBROKEN” for quite some time in the PSU community) doing insane damage, and there’s another one here where the character spins around, which makes the axe into a fast weapon for a change.

Was just playing DC PSO v.1 today. I was on that stupid side quest where you lead the robot girl who has a crush on you through the ruins. Was doing good, and adopted a hit and run strategy, so as not to get surrounded: Rafoie, or some other useful spell as many times as possible, leave the room and have her follow me out to be healed, use items, etc.

So on the last room of the mission, jumps from across the room. It actually jumps PAST her and we get separated. So she gets jumped by him, one of the big golem things that does the rocket punch, and a sorcerer guy. Couldn’t get to her in time to heal her.

Fucking teleports.

cheh,

More people need to get into this and play it online, dammit. I played a Challenge mission online for the first time earlier today, and got the 3 free Extend codes. It’s annoying as hell that no one apparently has done a screen-by-screen translation breakdown of the japanese DLC though. I’ve seen like 1 or 2 screens translated and that was it. That PSPedia site most folks link ya to is a half-assed piece of shit that is never updated.(*typical gamefaqs douches…instead of actual help they always say “use the search” or link you to a site that’s even more worthless than they could ever hope to be in anything in life.)

Anyway, I’m not even sure what else to use an extend on besides the kokuintou sword I got recently. I’m tempted to use one extend on the Telltale Hearts weapon, just because it’s probably the coolest-looking kunckles weapon in the game.

New trailer for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity!

I can’t really wait on this one… I may have to import it immediately.

Alright, this is coming from someone who plays Phantasy Star Universe on the Xbox 360 and has two spread needles, and 9/9 highest tier at the moment guns. Plus with a few chars maxed or have maxed in the past.

Also, coming from someone who thought PSO was a fucking amazing game and Phantasy Star Universe is no one in comparison to PSO.

I really hope they make this game great, bring back all the good stuff from PSO and just take it to the next level.

The only reason that kept me playing PSU was I wanted an Action MMO and I wanted it on a console.

But ugh, PSU is so incredibly boring with no end-game content and how everything is based on Luck and not Skill.

Also based on how many hours you pour into the game really.
So yeah, please don’t F this up Sega.

Actually, Axes are mad powerful due to Anga Jabroga (which was often called Jabroken), that move hits over 20k in an AoE at endgame. It was even worse in PSU when it had 100% accuracy on it (aka, you never missed with it if they were close enough to be hit, ever).

I’m loving the new PA for axes though… I think it’s Anga Grudda…this actually gives the axe weapons some amazing speed that’s on par with other things. The character spins around with it, slashing multiple hitboxes in front of you…and that’s just part 1 of the combo. The 2nd part is an upward swing/toss, jump up to catch the axe and slam it downward, or something like that…and it all happens very fast. I’ve also seen the videos of Anga “Jabroken” absolutely decimating bosses with multiple hitboxes.

I hope they bring back the beasts in PSO2. I also prefer the more fast-paced, combo-heavy PSU/Portable style combat…and the new way the evasion stat works…along with manual blocking. I know that doesn’t sound like “PSO” anymore once you bring all that stuff back, but at least gameplay-wise, I can’t imagine going back to PSO’s old “1, 2, 3 + special hit” style of attacks. That’s incredibly slow and boring compared to the new combat style it has now…but of course that’s just my opinion. Going back to the old way is taking soooo many steps backwards.

Forces do need some help and extra development though…give me a reason to play that type again. In Portable 2, Vanguards and Hunters are so ridiculously good, there’s basically no point in a Force even existing in a team of players. I’ve read that a certain CAST SUV has level 5 buffs which actually surpass any assistance the Force could’ve done. I suppose the counter is that a Force wouldn’t need to charge the blast meter to keep buffs on all the time though…still, that class definitely needs help in the next game.

Heh, there’s so much to these games, one could probably write several books of information on them.

I’ve always wished for a PSO sequel that added platformer mechanics into the mix. Perhaps, a pseudo mix of ‘Lost Planet’ and the original PSO. I feel that would be the best way to really capture and showcase differences in class.

I really want to see a HUGE difference in classes and races. Including walking speeds, power, agility, etc. Give scenarios were individual classes shine and others struggle.

I always imagined a boss fight were it was the Hunters’ job to inflict close range damage to boss, but surrounding them are hordes of enemies. That’s where the Ranger comes in, and his job his to snipe them from a distance. The more unique scenarios for classes, the better the game.

Just imagine this Lost Planet 2 boss fight as PSO with Hunters and Forces scaling on this monster.

^heh, I figured it would be that boss in the video. It’s a shame that LP2 doesn’t seem to be as popular as I thought it would be (*possibly a combination of too many other good games out around the same time, plus LP2 might be a bit too grind-heavy, with it taking forever to even get close to having a level 99 character)…but yeah, that sounds interesting. Hunters would be the “slow, but powerful” brute force guys, Newman Force should probably be the “fastest, but weaker” types, but with magic that focuses on the support roles like buffs and reviving dead allies, or debuffs on the enemies…Rangers would be middleground in terms of speed, with various sniping options + fancy gunplay, like Dante’s Gunslinger style.

*and again…Megid should go back to being the “Death” spell and thus…something to fear.

One thing from the older PSO---- I actually wouldn’t mind if CASTs went back to having asolutely no tech/magic ability. They would either be a Ranger or Hunter (or Vanguard if they bring that back?). This would be one more thing in the mix to make Forces more of an asset to any team.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of other classes using magic. I’d rather just have Forces use magic.

PSOv1 pretty much made Forces useless.

Bring back Dreamcast PSO style. Bring back challenge mode!

There is a “Challenge” mode/missions in PSPortable 2. I managed to beat one of those stages playing solo several weeks ago, and I just barely made it past the 2 bosses. (*yeah, I forgot what stage it was…probably the first or 2nd one, but you have to fight two big boss-type characters at the same time there. It’s one of those Pan-Arms type deals where these 2 characters always show up as a “dynamic duo” ready to kill you.)

today’s update—> the blog has posted a new commercial for PSP2:Infinity–> Phantasy Star Fan Blog?

also, forces can strafe while casting from a wand, they can block with rods now (old news though), and they have new techs. It looks like they’re at least trying to “fix” the poor little Force. They definitely need it. There will also be some change regarding nanoblast forms, apparently? Hopefully they make them more useful by late to end-game characters. It’s kind of sad that those forms become mostly obsolete once you reach a certain point…while the CAST’s SUV weapons remain useful all the way to endgame.

So it gots the Challenge mode like pso v2, where you had to run all the instances with a group starting from level zero, and what dropped in there could only be used in challenge mode, and you had to do it in a certain amount of time to complete it, and depending on your time after the last stage you’d get boss weapons and s-ranks??

DOUBLE the addiction now!— my download of the Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity demo just finished earlier, so I’m finally getting to play it. Check it out here–> ???2 ??? ??? Of course it works just fine on a regular ol’ american PSP. It wouldn’t copy over to the memory stick at first, but everything works now after I put the specific demo file on there instead of copying the whole folder over. (*on first attempt, the folder and the smaller file copied fine, but the big file didn’t; I had to move that to the memory stick separately for some reason.)

Of course I made a Duman right away since that’s the new character type. I’ve only played thru the first Episode 1 story mission… I’ll check out the Episode 2 side later.
