I hope – but doubt – that this game is as amazing to play as it is to look at.
Speaking of which, here’s a look!

^I hope that’s only two of many more classes to show off. Shit looked boring as eff.
If this is gonna be Lobby>Room>Beat the game with strangers, again I’m just gonna stick with Dragon Nest.
Looks fun to me. Day 1 purchase!!
Sega messed up as soon as they made it “Phantasy Star Online”
I want my original “Phantasy Star” series back =/
Fuck really wish YT wasn’t blocked here
This game is starting to actually look like Phantasy Star unlike PSU.
So hype for this game. Please be Pay 2 Play.
animu diablo as usual looks sweet
i’ll prob cop it unless it totally blows dicks like psu, but I doubt it will, for the people clamoring for another phantasy star rpg brand rpg I imagine if they did decide to make a game like that it would turn into some worse than star ocean 3 quality abortion.
Someone put the media briefing on YT in 4parts. All in Japanese of course.
I’ll be perfectly honest with you guys -
I’ve played PS since PS 2 all the way to PSP2. And let me tell you - PSO is probably going to remain the highlight of the new series.
Lets review here -
[]PSU comes out. People expect this to be PSO’s sequel. However, it’s not. It’s it’s own game and has a lot of connections to the series. However, it’s never to sure how. People are sorely disappointed. PSU is still a good game, but then gets fucked largely by Sega. PS2/PC dies and 360 still goes.
[]PSZero comes out. Adds some concepts, still uses the SAME PSU CORE of gameplay and character moves. A step up, but nothing new.

PSP comes out. Doesn’t pick up until PSP2 and PSP infinity. Concept of **PSU FINALLY DONE RIGHT. **Only real problem that could be against it? Still using the old PSU gameplay setup and ntohing really has changed. Still recolored enemies and just same maps with blocked off parts to lead you in different directions, but same shit and even some SAME maps.
So let me tell you what I see when I see PSO-2.
I see a game that is subtly still using PSU’s core system. It looks cool to see more than just your team on the field, but guess what? It’s still probably going to use the PA system to make characters seem “unique” and “different”. Only problem with the PA system is that everyone just used the highest **damage per second **PA and spammed it. Virtually taking all the real skill or fun out of the game in the other versions.
Character customization in making them seems to have stepped up, but hell- it should since it’s on a fucking PC. And that’s another thing -
The best thing Sega did is to make PSO-2 PC only.
The biggest problem in why PSU failed is from obvious rare advertisements on sega’s part for the game and ofcourse the fact that the system was divided from Xbox 360 and then there’s PC/PS2.
PC could never get great updates because PS2 literally sucks and by the time they decided to drop PS2 players, it was already too late since the server already suffered from hacking that sega reacted a little too late on. (Causing many to leave and kept dwindling because we never could get great updates since PS2 was holding PC back.)
All in all, I want to believe this game will do good, but I’m on the fence. I’m probably going to get it, but I know I’m going to get 8balled.
I literally and figuratively know it.
I still don’t like the whole “PC-only” deal here. Console gaming has always been way more convenient and appealing, at least in my opinion. Anyway, it would be silly imo to go back to the PSO style of gameplay, when the PSU era gave us a more fast-paced, evolved version of that. I’d see it as a few steps backwards to go back to those slow “1, 2, 3<special>” combos. I can’t imagine people wanting that type of gameplay now in the modern era.
*Yeah, PSP2 and PSP2: Infinity are the absolute best versions of the PSU era. That is what PSU should’ve been in the first place. I had tons of hours logged just on the demo that came out for Infinity…and I’m still hoping an American release will happen (I haven’t checked in on that in a long time though… I didn’t want to import it if an American release was going to happen at some point). Those were the only 2 games I was playing on my PSP ever since they came out…oh and the online was FREE in PSP2. I played with people on there a few times, and the amount of lag going on was surprisingly small.
This franchise (at least ever since PSO when it switched to real-time action.) continues to be one of the only RPGs that ever truly mattered to me.
I’m not sure if you’ve been following the videos, but PSO-2 isn’t slow at all.
Read some of the last posts in this thread to get an idea of what’s going on.
one thing ima miss is that PSU is 6 players
Oy~ dude, it’s still 6.
Technically at times it’s 12 apparently.
i only saw 4 ppl in the pso2 vids
Skill tree is a good idea.
This game is still going to suck. But fuck I want to play it. God damn it.
Wait, fuck that; Diablo 3 is coming out too. Sega is going to have to do at least a fraction of what Blizz is doing. And yes, PSO and Diablo are like the same game.
Aaah my bad so far it looks like 4, the multi-party areas go up to 12.
Double post, don’t know what this is, looks like first alpha video on the internet

Also, inb4 dash spamming is stupid. Cause it’s not.
Aaaand it’s gone, oh well.
