Don's Arcade aka Astro City: Torrance/Carson Fridays 8pm-3am

You Third Strike OG’ers are getting soft:p. Just poisoning the well.

Don’t listen to them Strider use your TE.

I passed those trials using my TE.

I am just missing 3 expert parry trials. Strange how I found 7 and 8 easier than 6.

Good job.

I personally hate when people use pads, hitboxes, or anything else that is not a fighting game joystick i.e. Capcom six button format/Neo Geo 4 button format etc.

In basketball, football, baseball, soccer, or tennis, you always play with the same type of ball. Catering to these outsiders so we can accommodate them irks me. But that’s just how I feel. Of course you can use what ever you want but man why would you use anything else.

When I see guys who are good at SSF4 with a pad, it makes me think what a waste:( If you played SF4 with a joystick it would make the transition to other SF’s like ST, Alpha, or 3S much easier.

Well what about players like Wolfkrone who are perfectly capable on playing both stick and pad but just decide to pick pad because it is more comfortable?

IMO, I don’t personally care only because playing on pad was the way to go for home consoles anyway. When I had a copy of SFII: Turbo on SNES I was perfectly fine with the pad. Same goes for Alpha on PS1 and X-Men vs. Street Fighter on the Saturn. I just decided to go to the route of the arcade stick since I actually wanted to venture out and play in actual arcades.

Ya I know there are great pad players like Wolfkrone, Vangief, Shizza, Symbolic, and Naked Snake but I’m just old fashioned.

One joystick and six buttons will always be the standard for me. It’s like a classical piano. The structure is the same but you can play it in different ways:). I like how it’s the same controller for 3S and MVC2. Both are very different games.

Of course the world is changing but I’m Bill The Butcher.

Edit: Dude I hope UMVC3 goes back to 6 buttons.

Lol you are such a native, you will die a true American.

Also, MvC3 is technically 6 buttons. 3 main attacks, (L,M,H) a special button (S) and assists (A1, A2). MvC2 had the 4 attack buttons (L/H punches and kicks) and the two assists. So yea both games are 6 buttons.

Isn’t already six buttons!?

Suga man beat me to it.

Oh ok lol. So much I know about Mahvel lol:p I own two copies of the game and only played it once. Playing MVC3 better on an American or a TE? I know there’s not a lot American stick now but for those who tried which is better?

These Kogi Tacos and Burritos are delicious:)

Don’t compare me to pad players because of my statement of an easier way to pass parry trials in 3rd Strike.

Sorry.

IMO, HAPP for MvC2 and TE for MvC3. That spring is great for those fly/un-fly combos in MvC2. MvC3 doesn’t need it though, not as technical as MvC2. You can play the game a bit slower.

Also, Kogi Tacos are “meh” and expensive.

El Taquito Mexicano in Pasadena. Trust me on this one, I got family working there for many years now. Word of the wise: the taco truck > restaurant. They got master taco makers…

I take my tacos very serious Don.

EDIT: When did the signatures come back online???

I like Kogis because I like Korean BBQ but I do believe that they are expensive. But it was cool since my cousin paid:p

But I too love tacos and I will try those tacos you recommended:)

On another note for everyone to read: To honor all those great pad players. From now on Don’s Arcade will be pad only when we play SSF4 AE and MVC3. Starting this Friday I will put all my TE’s back in their boxes and we will just use PS3 and Xbox controllers. Unfortunately it will take some time to wire my cabinets to play pads but I’ll eventually do it. That way you can play 3S Astro City on pad as well:p

This will be great because I heard this coming EVO 2012 it will be pad only as well:p. Yay:)

what meats are good and have you tried the chicharron?
i got it once up north and it was crunchy and crisp on the outside and soft and tender carnitas on the inside. everytime i get chicharron down here its soft like buche but a little mushy

I am a fan of all sorts of meats myself, but my personal favorites are: Pastor, Cabeza, Carnitas. The chicharron that they sell at El Taquito has some crunch, definitely not like buche. But I find myself eating a crunchier chicharron at a local meat market in Huntington park. Maybe it is because I buy them in bigger chunks there or maybe the added salsa softens the meat a bit, but it definitely isn’t mushy. The carnitas though are SUPER tender. Very incredible stuff, at least from my experience. The cabeza goes great with some horchata, which they also happen to sell

And pastor, well I just love it. Doesn’t matter if it is the Mexican Adobada kind or the stuff they sell in at El Taquito.

@Don: You hosting this friday? I might take a trip to your place…

hmmmm me Grandma use to make us chicharron.

Tomorrow we shall have a gathering starting at 7pm. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. Anyone new please text me at 310 344 9367. Hopefully I’ll see everyone tomorrow.

Jersey Shore tonight:P

I’ll make the trip to your place if I can, as always. I’m proud to say that I put in the time in over half the cast during these past 2 weeks, so I’ll have new characters to run with some tricks up my sleeve.

BTW, I played through 2i just recently to compare a few things, and maybe it was just because I didn’t know what to look for in the past, but the things you can do in that game really take the cake. Proximity normals (especially meaty ones) in 2i are just broken. Sean has friggin’ frame traps like no one’s business, and the speed of the game along with it’s loose input windows make rush down way too effective. Add in some yomi, and you can pretty much walk on anyone with Sean or Ibuki like they were Yun or Chun but 3 times more effective. That said, 2nd Impact just doesn’t feel like 3rd Strike at all, ironically. It feels like Darkstalkers with how aggressive you can be with block string pressure, and parries are a joke, imho, because of knock-back (it honestly feels like push blocking). Also…2i Urien isn’t playable at all. Literally EVERY tactic, link, and combo he has in 3rd Strike doesn’t work. In fact, what weirded me out was how 2i was a faster game, but Urien’s normals and specials were EXTRA slow, even compared to his 3s form. I’ll put it this way: Sean vs Urien looks like a 8-2 in Sean’s favor.

@ Karafail: I used to play quite a bit of Garou. I like it personally since everyone is pretty balanced and useful, but meter management is kind of…strange. Because of just defend and that attack bonus system (whatever the hell it’s called), there are times where you’ll do nothing but just defend to maintain your offensive advantages within a certain snippet of health. I do like the moments where you have to force your opponent out of their health advantages, but the meta game for that is so different from everything else because your best supers are linked directly to your health, and you seriously cannot play that game defensively despite just defend because you and your opponent both regain health. For me, it’s kind of like the 3rd Strike of SNK because success comes from influencing your opponents options and then capitalizing on your options through health mitigation. Whereas parry tells the other guy “don’t do that, I’ll punish you” to force them to mix up, just defend and it’s nuances create long-term strife due to impending/ongoing/prolonged threats; the inverse of parry, but with the same subtle psychological effects.

@ Dander: If you still need my TE, I’ll bring it along if you want. =P

I love reading this post. Lovin old school 2D fighters this in depth is where it’s at:)

It’s awesome that you got into MOV.

Tonight we shall have a gathering starting at 7pm. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. I’ll be going around to collect the E fee so please have it ready when I ask for it. Anyone new please text me at 310 344 9367. Hope to see y’all tonight:)
