Don's Arcade aka Astro City: Torrance/Carson Fridays 8pm-3am

2D Fighting Game Renaissance? I think we are slowly getting there, I mean we have Skullgirls coming up, Mortal Kombat sold millions and Third Strike did just come out :P.

I am not too sure how 3SO is selling, but I do hope that it ends up doing well. It gives me hope for a possible CvS2. I mean, it was released on Xbox/PS2 before. CvS2 is a great game, I just wish more people I knew played it. People just seem to get on SF4 and MvC3. I will be honest, I am slowly getting bored of those two. The speed of CvS2 does take some getting used to, but I find that jumping from SF4 and CvS2 isn’t that bad of a thing. IMO the speed of the game seems similar, but players can do so much more with CvS2 since there are loads of different playing styles, characters and grooves. Very deep game.

As far as 3SO bugs go, there are a few that bother me. Like the one Naked Snake said and there were a few times where the music just cuts out in the middle of a fight. Bugs are slowly getting removed though. There was a funny glitch on my end where it showed my disconnect % in the BILLIONS even though it is mathematically impossible since you can either have 0 disconnects or 100% lol. Even stranger that I never once disconnected online. I logged in today and it went back down to 0, I found it amusing though.

Oh man, that disconnect percent bug. I still remember my reaction when I first ran into it. Saw it several times in pictures before, but when you run into it… Man. Hilarious shit.

Roll backs take some getting used to, but all in all, 3S is still very playable and enjoyable; so long as you respect the golden rule: yellow or green, if not GTFO.

SF4 Venting:

So I played Super at Super yesterday night and I was Ryu playing this Chun Li who had like a 20 game winning streak. All this fool did was stand back, turtle, poke, and walk away. Then when he had the lead and a ultra meter full. He just walked back and waited until I attacked him in which he just anti aired with fierce or roundhouse.

After I lost I said fuck this and played 3S and ST in which I felt liberated because I could be aggressive.

I’m not knocking SF4 but the game seems so tedious to me. I know the way to beat a turtle Chun with Ryu is to footsie your way in.

The way to win SF4 is to just to turtle :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the footsie game is still just as important in Third Strike though. cr. forward all day!

Thiiiiiis

You’re right. Why do I even bother playing that game sometimes.

Thank God for 3S, ST, and CVS2:). And also thank God for MVC3 players who say SSF4 is boring. You know I regret never playing any Marvel but only a little regret. Marvel’s cool because it’s all about speed and controlling chaos. I was just always scared though lol. But Marvel’s cool because it’s the fighting game equivalent of speed racing.

Btw in the mail I got KOF 98 and Fighter’s History Dynamite. All I need now is KOF 2002 and Mark of the Wolves and my imaginary arcade will be complete…maybe.

I also have Guilty Gear Accent Core but I would have to take out CVS2 to play it:(

Ooo, I’ve always wanted to play Mark of the Wolves. I heard it’s like the SNK’s equivalence to 3s.

Let me start an SNK Capcom war:

Although MOV is a great game the Just Defend system is for wusses. Unlike Parrying in which you have to risk if you Just Defend you’re safe when you mess up because you block.

Lol. MOV is great though.

So I was thinking. Skateboarding and Hello Kitty have been around for a while and is multi-generational. I’m thinking if this will happen with Street Fighter. I don’t know the numbers but it seems like there’s a new appreciation with the younger generation with 3S and ST. And of course there’s a whole history that the younger generation can discover with the other 2D fighting games like Guilty Gear, Marvel, Vampire and SNK games. Since they’re 2D they’ll always have the classical look.

So I’m wondering if they can like Hello Kitty and Skateboarding if they can be rediscovered by younger generations over and over again. I know America loves nostalgic things.

I hear 3s is making people (SF4 generation) realize how much SF4 actually sucks.

Its like playing K Groove.

You can get good at it, but a real test of skill is using P Groove.

P Groove is all I use for CVS2:). I’ve been institutionalized by 3S. I know you have a better chance at winning with C groove but I feel that C Groove is too easy.

I remember when they announced CVS2, a lot of SNK players were mad because of the Capcom favored treament. First of all SNK players were pissed because it got upgraded to six buttons. And also they hated how the Capcom grooves got SNK rolls. SNK players would say: “It’s a stupid Capcom world. Why is there six buttons now and why do the Capcom grooves get rolls.”. Being a Capcom player myself I was amused how SNK players took it so seriously.

But in hindsight I don’t think the Capcom grooves should’ve have rolls. They should have kept it kosher. Another problem for CVS2 is no ex moves for P Groove. The P Groove i.e., the 3rd Strike mode, got the short end of the stick offensively. Building that long one level super meter puts a lot of P Groove users at a disadvantage. EX moves would have been great. At least we would have something more to work with offensively.

But once you get P Groove down and you can parry everything it’s super fun. Yes the game is a little slow for my taste but I think the speed is appropriate for CVS2. I know SNK characters like Iori and Terry play fast.

How strong is Iori btw?

@Kara Fail: I hear a lot of great things about MOV. The only problem is it’s hard to find players who actually play it on a high level. But the game is cool.

Pare N groove and K groove own at cvs2. maybe A groove if u were good with your custom combos but P groove was the worse bro. Also fellas 3rd strike online has been giving me headaches. i beat the easy parry trials except for parrying ken’s ex shoryu. wtf can someone offer help on this. Otherwise been rocking alot of FPS lately thanks to Call of Duty Xp MW2 and Crysis 2 is bad ass.

But there are no EX moves at all for ANY groove Don :stuck_out_tongue: Just super meters. Though I do agree than only 1 meter for P Groove is kinda lame. K Groove only has one meter as well, though the rage meter helps a lot since supers get huge damage buffs.

I play boring ol’ C Groove because it pretty much does so much without requiring too much work lol. You got rolls, 3 meters, cancelable super moves, blocking in the air, Alpha Counters, and level 2 supers have invincibility frames. Aside from C Groove, I play A-Groove (though I suck at it) and K Groove.

@strider: 3S can be a difficult game to play. You just gotta work, watch videos, and practice. At first it’s hard but once you get the hang of it, it’s the funnest game in the world.

@Suga: Those Asian CVS2 players with died hair who had the N Groove team of Iori, Kyo, and Ryu were funny. They were good. I like Iori even though I can’t play him. Remy totally rips him off.

Iori reminds me to much of Kyo lol. Just a qcb rekka instead of qcf

If you just want to pass the parry trials, use a d-pad.

Please don’t tell them to use pads to play Third Strike.

I didn’t. I said if they simply want to pass the parry trials, use a d-pad.

I’ll reinforce the D-Pad for passing the PARRY TRIALS in 3RD STRIKE.
