The knuckle method is just way to awkward to play. The other way is easier; using the thumb, ring finger and pinky. It still feel awkward however, I have yet to really have any use of TAP in any match. Maybe when I confront a Dhalsim I will use.
Dash punches and headbutts seem to work efficiently, particularly with characters who have fireballs.
Whatever’s easiest for you. Like I said, TAP isn’t super critical to Boxer’s play. Some top level Boxer’s use it a lot, some use only some of the time, some rarely use it at all. Dash punches and headbutts are EXTREMELY important to his game though, so it’s important to learn how to use them properly. You’ll mostly be using the jab or short versions, since they come out very quickly and have good reach, but occasionally you’ll use other versions to try and punish people who jump back. TAP is nice to be able to attack without charge, so that you can build up charge again, and continue with your assault.
If you want to learn a fun way to punish fireball characters. You can learn how to do a headbutt go through a fireball, and then super on reaction to a fireball. Same goes with doing short dash upper into super, although this is harder to execute. He’s got LOTS of tools to shut down the fireball game.
If you really want to look stylish. Against a standing opponent, or stunned opponent, you can do j.jab, cr.jab, cr.jab, st.jab xx super or dash punch. The super requires you to buffer the motion when you stand, but it’s pretty reliable and easy to do with practice, and almost every boxer in the world uses this against stunned opponents.
Tomorrow we shall have a gathering. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. Anyone new who wishes to join us please pm or text me at 310 344 9367 if you have any questions.
Here’s a pm from scuddman that I just received and I want to share with everyone and put it out there:
“Thanks for playing with me in your thread. I seriously was hoping you would pick up the phone and I"d ask you about the jacket, then I was gonna offer to buy you a drink the next time you were out to regency to let bygones be bygones.
Nah, I’m not mad (lol, hope you’re not, but you might be), and honestly, my lame ass deserved to be punched that day.
You can tell everybody I said that if they give you crap about it.
No drama, just some fun.”
So as far as I’m concerned there is no more drama and I’m gonna finally leave it alone. It’s over.
I’m still confused as to whether or not you punched him, or you didn’t punch him, or you punched him but it was someone else, or he got punched and it was someone else, or both of you got punched and nobody knows who got punched.
Did I ever tell you guys that time when somewhere between 2002-2003 I was at Southern Hills Golfland and someone pulled out a gun and shot someone. After the bang, everyone ran out. Mr. Wizard was yelling out everyone to leave. I ran through the Golf course lol. The shot just sounded like a balloon popping. It was like a delayed reaction. After the pop people were calm and then everyone started running.
And this is why I want drama to be squashed because you have no idea where it can lead. I’ve been there. I know.
Ah, old SHGL stories. Delicious. Well, that’s what happens when people get violent over a video game, especially in such a shady area like Stanton. Them Vietnamese get REAL personal when it comes to fighting games.
Regency and SHGL both have such a colorful history that consist of different sets of people, groups, and eras that if you didn’t write it all down you could easily get it mixed up. A lot of this stuff happened a long time ago too so the memory of it could be skewed. But for myself I knew exactly what happened on that day in the parking lot at Regency and it’s what I told you guys but see I kind of put myself in this position by sharing with you guys not knowing who was actually reading this stuff. So for me it’s just best to leave everything alone now.

I can picture there being some sort of “2D Fighter” mafia. In true fashion, Don is well, the Don lol. Taking control of local scenes/arcades by recruiting his regulars at Don’s Arcade to all around SoCal and “beating” other players. Don hates the police and the police listen to Don. All while he is reciting lines from Martin Scorsese films.
Maybe various underbosses, each under their own respective game (ST, Third Strike, CvS2, etc) and they each have their own capos and soldiers.
That was viscious! Don, why you gotta hit me like that? Dang.
Anyways, back on topic, not fond of TAP, but when i used it, i would hold the 3 punches with index, middle, and ring finger, then would use the thumb to push another button if I needed it. But I sucked with rog in super turbo.

In ANY crisis situation, there’s always that one dude who’s gotta take advantage of the situation and loot shit. LOL. It’s very interesting how the survivors reacted during the Katrina situation in America and the tsunami situation in Japan. TOTALLY different cultural mentality.
Holy shit you have one active imagination, lol. Even if Don had this power to send his soldiers around socal, it’s not like he’d make much money off of it
You hold punches to do TAP? That’s pretty strange, seeing as how Boxer’s best buttons are his punch buttons. I suppose you could do combination of both, but most players prefer to have their jab dash punch upper and lower ready to go, as well as his ridiculous st.fierce.
Actually some players use both kicks and punch buttons for TAP. You can actually do a super, and then hold down all 6 buttons, and you’ll do the punch version of the super, since punches have higher priority than kicks, and jabs have the highest priority than the stronger buttons.
I have to admit, the 3s community is a bit balls compared to the ST community. I remember going on GGPO once and playing a Blanka player who was really on point with his mix-ups and poking game. I had a hard time figuring out what to do, so I simply asked the guy how I should deal with that specific match up. If this were 3s, I’d get a not-so-clever insult or indirect solution, but the Blanka player went out of his way not only to teach me how to counter Blanka’s mix-ups, but also the normals I should use to keep him out. By the time we were done with our sets, I had went from losing consistently, to losing every 2 out of 5 games. That was an achievement for me because, heck, I don’t play ST competitively.
I know 3s is a much more complex game, but there’s not a lot of people in the community who’ll just sit there and guide you as you play the game, or make you feel like you’re welcomed despite how often you win or lose. Match up experience just comes down to learning what will or might happen, so it’s not that difficult to help someone understand the basics all the way up to advance strategies. I try and help as many players as I can with my game because I love playing and enjoy seeing people improve, but the general population are only looking out for number 1. Heck, some of the lot won’t even accept a GG just out of conceit; sportsmanship is apart of the fun, but a lot of the time that’s not their concern. I’m not writing off the good people in this community, because I know who they are, but there’s no denying that the general mentality is self-serving compared to how most ST players are.
I wish the 3S community today would stop being so self possessed and unaccessible. But then again this whole UMVC3/SSF4 tidal wave is not helping getting new 3S players either. Still even though it’s an uphill battle 3S players need to stop being too cool for school or there will be no school left. They need to be more patient.
Of course it’s also money. If 3S had tournaments with big money prizes then that would help. There are a lot of factors but there are a lot of things that need reform.
It’s like what I told Joe yesterday: the 25th tourney from last week was the last big 3s event, if not indefinitely. The game is a bit more irrelevant now than it was before, and new kids coming in aren’t exactly playing locals, so the scene is just in a standstill…more of a standstill. Personally, I’m starting to think that fighting games at large are becoming niche again. With arcades bowing out too, the whole atmosphere is different with fewer people caring, which won’t help anyone out when the dark ages come again. Hate to say it, but the fighting game scene is it’s own worst enemy when it comes down to the issues that keep it back.
The goal to make 3S a mainstream game in the SF4 resurgence era is an obvious bust. Capcom actually didn’t help at all. Looking back when they released HDR as an obvious appetizer for SF4 they should have also released 3SO as well as an appetizer. NOT AFTER. Bad marketing. Bad timing. It’s like releasing all the each Marvel Super Heroes movies AFTER you release Avengers. Now Capcom is back issuing all their old Marvel titles after the new one? They’re fools.
So the industry is against 3S players and to expand it now is gonna be tough. But as the ultimate optimist there’s still hope.
