is there a guy named james that goes here

if so
i met your friends kevin and alden at my gym
and i’m wondering if i met you

that is all

Don’s Arcade open today?

Probably not because USA. USA. USA. USA. @ EVO

I kinda wanna get into Marvel now… anyone willing to help me start? Im so bad T-T

Learn at least one kill combo, no matter how much meter it uses, with each of your characters and then you are ready to learn Marvel.

After learning your combos, the first thing you will likely be learning is how to spread out the meter and still kill. Managing dem ratios.

I thought all you played was Third Strike. :coffee:

It’s not a difficult game to learn. It’s difficult not to get killed is what it is.

I play all fighting games, though. It’s in my blood or something.

How do I learn a kill combo…

GGs everyone. That was one of the stronger nights in a good while. A lot~~~ of new technology revealed. My new 50/50’s with Ibuki proved to be highly effective once I got them going.

Your ground game has gotten a lot better, Grant. It’s more consistent than mine right now, but that’s my own fault for not playing stronger people regularly to make mine better. Makoto’s shenanigans aside (ugh…), the only real thing I don’t like about your game is how often you throw on reaction after empty cross-ups or pressure. I say this because you never bait the tech as a full blown punish like Hermon and Tenren do, you just anticipate it like most people do on reaction, kind of like how I parry off a read, but don’t delay my punish because I’m reacting to the parry like a psychopath. I actually thought you would at some point while we were playing (the fuck did I know about how far you leveled up, right?), which is why I pressured with crouching jab to poke out of throw setups and tech situations, once I got used to your awkward setups. It’s not a crippling flaw to your play against the everyday scrub, but if I were a higher level player, I’d probably force a guessing game onto that weakness and just go ham.

All this kind of goes into my bigger point though: the mind games just aren’t there yet from either of us. Now sure, our execution, setups, stun combos are on lock – someone definitely is going to die if they get touched now. However, we’re not really playing third strike yet. Like…just MOVING towards me – hell, even crouching – should make me go “OH SHIT” and psyche me out, you know? I never feel like you’re in my head, imposing so many things at once without touching a button. We’re playing Marvel, yo. The cheap stuff with unblockables, 50/50’s, and resets. Yet the parts to 3rd Strike that make it REALLY scary just aren’t visible in our gameplay at all; the same things that we need to reach that higher level of play. We’re not playing Ibuki and Makoto right. If we did, we wouldn’t lose to Don’s shenanigans even once – period. DON DOESN’T PRACTICE! HE IS A LAZY MAN! LAZY! LAAAAAZZZZZZY! DX

Thanks for the feedback. I’m still working on learning how to play the game “correctly.” I think part of the reason that I can’t get into people’s heads is because I still play too passively.

Btw, I know how to get out of your 50/50 mixup now

Best advice I can give to improve your flow with Makoto (since she does play differently) is to think about the next logical move your opponent will do in a situation you force onto them or lead them into. Like karakusa. In my boat, when I’m hit by karakusa, I only really get 3 viable options after: block, jump, or crouch-tech. After you get your free damage (something into hayate, usually), I have to guess my way out, technically – you already know that. Don usually punishes me if I try to do anything afterward by resetting the situation with karakusa. He’ll wait until I’m impatient from two or more karakusa resets, this way he can punish my vertical movement. Even if he whiffs the karakusa, he’s technically safe.

With Ibuki, I’m supposed to play off of flow, advantage, and movement, which are concepts I’m not fully taking advantage of because I don’t 100% know how they lead into new situations that my opponent has to think about. Fundamentally breaking down a situation, then looking at how your opponent will think after a string of similar situations (conditioning), are what create your mind games – from what I’ve both experienced and been taught. This also means understanding what you telegraph, so that you can create situations from nothing (space control with whiffed buttons up close, or baiting with movement). You’ll know you’re doing all of this right when the other guy next to you gets frustrated to the point where he stops doing anything in-game. This is the stuff Lenin is talking about; not playing your character, but “being” your character; textbook 3rd strike play.

And my 50/50 is still good. I just have to play off of it’s strengths now to give you a harder time.

Thanks everyone for showing up on Friday. It was fun. A lot of old faces and new faces mixed together. We had seventeen people. Thank you Mr. 12, Rufus, Lee, David, Tri, Joe, Jason, Mike, Karafail, Julius, Arcade Game, ALAX, Galzpanic, Cyrus, John, and Muraz.

Thank you everyone. It was fun seeing everyone again after two weeks and talking about EVO. It was also funny talking about Kayo Police lol.

Let’s try this again on Friday.

Mr. 12: All you have to is use Ken and Makoto and life is easy:p

But it’s cool how you guys are exploring 3S deep. I see Karafail’s Yun coming along and I also see an emerging Necro and Hugo.

I genuinely love Ibuki because she’s execution heavy, challenging, and extremely complex to master. Even though I technically only dislike Ken and Makoto due to salt, they just never scratched that itch Ibuki does. She’s capable of destroying everyone if she hits you 3 times with no meter (Chun Li and Alex aside), but to get her to that level, which is the only level she’s godlike, I have to train harder and not give in to easy-mode options like I have in the past. I want dat Sakonoko/Tenren/Higa status swag so flippin’ bad.

First part of that status is to just never say swag ever again.

Challenge accepted.

Bricks, bats, axes, knives…Pistols?
