I’ve heard so many different names at this point, but there’s hardly any footage on anyone (understandably enough). That, and most of them are retired from the game (understandably enough). Was Al Tony in any majors?
Vice’s jump ins are the only things I can use to manage spacing and pressure since – maybe it’s just me – her normals don’t seem to create much in the way of space control on the ground. I know she’s supposed to use Decide and EX Decide as pressure tools, but I’m finding it hard to wrap my head around when to use it appropriately. =P
The few DMs you did land on me with Shen would have gotten me anyways, intentional or not, because my hop/jump/pressure game is really bad right now. Seeing Bala play at SCR sort of showed me what I needed to do to play better.
EDIT: DUH! I remember who Al Tony is now! Didn’t he go by the name ‘Feint’ in the scene? If so then yeah, I can agree with you as far as him being the best. Half of my mix up game and links came from watching some of his stuff.
I know her standing D is probably her best answer if you have time to do it when your opponent is jumping in at you. Maybe her best anti air, too. I’m not too sure of which specials you want to use for pressure, but for normals I think you can keep it simple with crouch B crouch B standing B, and if that hit confirms you should be able to go into super, if not her shoulder charge chain. Not too familiar with her names, hah.
If he was called Feint, I wouldn’t have known. I always called him Tony. Small little quiet asian guy, almost always wore beanies. Was stupid good when he got momentum going until he got stopped in his tracks or his hands started hurting, whichever came first. I always wanted to play Ibuki as he did but I never got the time to put into her for it. Maybe now, but I’d probably be a more patient explosive. Space space space, get that one hit and roll the dice and go in. Actually I think that’s how I play anything, really.
If your Alex is a testimony of how you play in general, then yeah, you’d get the hang of Ibuki really quick.
From my experiences playing her, I seem to do best when I can control every situation, and explain in detail what the other guy is thinking and going for. I know that’s a general sort of thing, but she requires it more than any character I’ve ever really played with seriously. Intimidation gets her wins, not her seemingly random gameplay. The times where I can’t maintain the flow of the game, quite literally, translate into my Ibuki sucking since her tools are extremely yomi dependent. You can’t necessarily sit around in the neutral game long with her either since her movement becomes more transparent to the other guy.
Though I’d say that a really strong Ibuki is the kind that can pressure you without even touching you. Subtle movements make her more intimidating since she can always break out her insane shenanigans in bizarre patterns, and break the flow of the game when she wants to, spontaneously. Even when she’s on chip, most people change their gameplay against her, which makes her very scary if you have calm nerves (I’ve made a lot of comebacks this way). That said, why guys like Tony are so good is because they don’t play randomly off of the dice roll into momentum; when a human tries to be random, they tend to go into patterns. The better Ibuki players make sense of their opposition, then create unique mix-ups from a tempo that’s completely centered around the other guy’s own habits, spacing, and emotional state of being. That tempo is cut short typically and made safe with some option that blankets the original intent of the offense (jab, jab, raida, for example). You apply subtle pressure like this bit by bit, then you wait for the other guy to do something to snatch the fight back. THAT’S when you go into overdrive.
One was intentionally meant to be an all girl, moe fighter (Arcana Hearts), the other was originally a dōjin that got exposure from famous Japanese voice actors, therein translating into the game becoming a success in Japan (Melty Blood).
I personally like the feel to Melty Blood since you have 3 different ‘moons’ (versions) of the same character to choose from that make them more viable dependent on your general play style. It’s like being able to pick new/old characters in ST. Arcana Hearts plays like Marvel and BB since you have Arcana that work like assist, and Melty feels like Guilty Gear with it’s player centric systems like Reverse Beat (I wish every game had this) and Magic Circuit. What’s weird is that both games are almost identical to one another as far as concept since your character’s actual move list dramatically change dependent on your Arcana or Moon, there’s only 4 real buttons (Melty BARELY hits 4), there’s a stupid amount of meta game jargon to make sense of, both have underage girls, both have the same Gulity Gear rush down style, and, like Guilty Gear, unless you sit down and understand every little thing, it’s hard to know what all of your options are to setup a counter offensive correctly (Melty has so much damage mitigation that half the time you have to play with the numbers, not against them; Arcana has that whole clashing system which will make or break your play if you don’t know how to deal with it).
Hey all, I work in the Torrance area and have been to your place Ni8Wing before I think 1-2 years ago. I was that Ibuki player that played at FFA/Denjin in the past. Do you guys still play alot of 3S. I was thinking of showing up on Friday possibly. My handle is Tenren.
Grant and I are going to show up tomorrow and we’re going to play MVC2 aaaallllll night…well not all night, but yeah. Hoping to get some good games in with sf4 too.
I’ll try to get my cousins to take pics and then they’ll text them to me and I shall post them on facebook.
I remember you Tenren. You were the guy who owned me with Ibuki lol. You were here when my place was just in it’s infancy and no one was here. The community has grown a bit now and a lot has changed. I charge $5 now for unlimited gaming from 7pm-4am. I hope that’s cool.
As for 3S I had many a great player walked in here. Right now the regular 3S players like Karafail and Mr. 12 are quite good. But the king of 3S here is Dander.
So I hope you can swing by sometime. If you can show up after 9pm that’s when people start filing in.
Hey Dander. Merry Christmas.
Yeah!!!
Tonight we shall have a gathering. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. I’ll be going around to collect the E fee so please have it ready. In addition to arcade games you get a free Christmas Lights show compliments of Sleepy Hollow. So I hope you everyone can make it tonight. Anyone new please text me at 310 344 9367.
I just read the Latif interview on eventhubs and I like how he said it took three years for Viper to be realized. That’s a little like a 3S learning curve.
GGs all. F*** Benimaru. Akuma’s ridiculousness in 2i doesn’t even make me as salty as Benimaru’s hijinks in 13. =P
Don, wanna here a joke? Mike Z Makoto! 8D
I like my run with her tonight, but I think I need to put more time behind Makoto to bring back the fear. It was all but gone at the end of the night. D:
Thank you all who showed up Friday night. We had a magic nine people show up. Not bad for a holiday weekend. It was a lot of fun and Christmasy. Thanks.
Thank you ALAX, Lavell, Patrick, Jnana, Karafail, Alexis, Mr. 12, John, and Julius.
