Don's Arcade aka Astro City: Torrance/Carson Fridays 8pm-3am

If i get a day off before SCR could we do a special session at ur pad pare?

Even though it’s obvious that everyone is still getting used to KOF, the competition was pretty awesome for what it was worth. Learning the game on the fly with everyone was pretty neat (a lot of Vice action, but her spacing tools are really weird, even for a grappler…). Either way, GGs. I’ll put in the time to make my Athena and Ash Crimson legitimately scary!

EDIT: SCR is doing a 3s side tourney this year. There’s no prize pot, but I think I’m going to enter and test my luck.

Thank you all for joining last Friday night. It was super fun. We had twenty people. All of the major games were getting good rotations. We need more of these kind of nights:)

Thank you Jint, ALAX, Mike, Mekan, Lee, Vincent, Galzpanic, Charlie, Ronnie, Sanchez, MCloud, OutforJustice, The Absolute, Secret Character, Shooting Blankas, Kent, Mike, John, Mr. 12, and Lavell.

Thank you all for showing up and joining. It was awesome. Hope to see you this coming Friday:)

Shit is going down this Friday.

those ST sticks are GDLK

Hey guys

When you throw away trash in my place, please use the BLACK TRASH CAN. Not the gray one or the green one. Gray is for recycling and green is for green nature stuff like trees, branches, and leaves.

Throwing out the trash today got me annoyed. When I saw all this crap in my green and gray containers it was disgusting. DON’T BE AN IDIOT, USE THE BLACK TRASH CAN FOR TRASH NOT THE GRAY ONE OR GREEN ONE.

Remember you don’t have to throw away your cans or plastic bottles. You can leave them in the garage since I recycle them.

I’m not mad just have to put this out there.

Thank you:)

Ya those are awesome. I added hard springs so that it has a tighter feel. Now it feels like playing Hyper Fighting back in the day at a 7-11 lol.

We shall have a gathering tomorrow. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. Anyone new interested please text me at 310 344 9367.

Hope to see you tomorrow. Go Clippers!!!

YAY! I will be there tomorrow.

Welcome back crazy guy.

Have you played much KOF recently, Don? I’m sort of…ruining my day job behind that game. ):

I’ve been having a real hard time learning the new fighting games. I’m trying to be modern and attempting to learn Viper in AE but at the rate I’m going it’ll take ten years lol.

I only know how to play SF4 because it has Ryu in it and I’ve been playing Ryu all my life so I just get by with my experience because I really don’t play anymore. I really only play on Fridays. I am really a creature of the arcade. The truth is that I can’t really play at home even with all my setups. I have to actually drive to the arcade to play. So when I do feel like playing I drive to FFA, Regency, Alex, or Super to play. Ironic as it is, I can’t stand playing at home except on Fridays. It just doesn’t feel right lol. I got to go to an arcade and pop a quarter into a machine to get me activated.

But great job in the KOF. We need to start having a little scene for it.

Hey Don its been a while since I have headed to your arcade but I am going to be in town for SCR this weekend and I am hoping to stop by tonite for some last minute training

Come on over.

And everyone else come on over for your So Cal Regionals training.

Tonight we shall have a gathering. Everyone and anyone is invited. The more the merrier. I’ll be going around to collect the E fee so please have it ready when I ask for it. Anyone new please text me at 310 344 9367. Hope to see y’all tonight.

i’ll see if i can make it, i’m a bit busy today but it was a great time last week

Fun stuff last night, was crazy dumb having to go through Christmas hell to just get in to park. Good to see JR again, GGs to the guy I played in KOF and 3S using Ibuki; I was the Alex guy.

@ Naked_Snake: I thought it was you that I played. GGs, your Alex is pretty tricky to deal with. I do have one question for you though: how do you space correctly with Vice and maintain pressure? I have no flippin’ clue. :frowning:

I just got back from SCR. I played in the relatively small 3s tournament, and honestly, I’m not upset at how I did or my level of focus throughout, just my exposure to “the bull shit”. I was kicked from winners by a Dudley player who “barely” got away with wins against me (if I played Urien, I think I would have won that), and I was booted from losers by a frame-trap happy Necro player. I gambled and played Ibuki in her double-edged 5/5 match ups, and although my confidence and general play style with Ibuki were fine (I was even complimented by a few folks and asked to go to Super Arcade for WNF), I lost because of match up experience.

You were right Don; I need another 3-4 years of experience under my belt. I genuinely feel like I could have been a threat in that tournament with the extra knowledge to drive my gameplay. Either way, even if I did beat the Dudley player, my next opponent would have been Amir or Mike Z. BTW, Mike Z told me why he uses SA3 Makoto. He utilizes it like a frame trap. He ran a couple of his setups, and each one put his opponent into a situation he could predict out 80% of the time. I like how Amir plays, too. He’ll move in spots and positions that cause throws and normals to whiff awkwardly, and do some of the most extremely meaty setups I think I’ve ever really seen in person. Rom’s Yang was sick, too.

Skullgirls isn’t too bad, but you know something, it didn’t quite have that…“hit” to it, if you get what I mean. It’s a tad slow, strangely, and you can mash a little without much thought (the execution is low, but in a good way). I don’t know, considering I play most of the technical/rushdown fighters, SG seems a bit too forgiving and loose, for me. It feels faster than CvS2, slower than 3rd Strike, and block-stun lasts FOREVER. It’s UMvC minus everything I didn’t like about it, with an extraordinarily tamed Alpha/Darkstalkers feel to it, basically. Properties seem a little wonky to make sense of on punish (air states and OTGs, especially) and throws have terrible range despite the pacing, but it’s not bad. It’s fun, just…I need more time with it to make sense of it.

SFxT was there. No, the SFxT builds at SCR did NOT have gems. The KOF competition, if anything, highlighted the value of that game in the scene. It had the most hype event on day 1, and there were loads of people playing that game in casuals on a pretty serious level.

SG plays like MVC2. Keep that in mind.

Yeah, I stopped playing MvC2 long before I picked up the fighters I do play competitively now, so I shouldn’t be surprised SG feels weird for me. It’s an adjustment, which I’m okay with.

Oh, btw, I was meaning to ask you who those other 3 Ibuki players you play against are. When I was at the 3rd Strike table, someone told me to look into a guy named Tenran, though I was told he only rarely plays now. =/

Best Ibuki player in the US is / was AI Tony. FACT. … Or horribly bias, but I know Lenin will support me there.

As far as the Vice pressure goes, I’d have to sit down and play the game more to give what information I can to keep pressure and for spacing. I honestly just play KOF 13 right now straight from the hip with some decent spacing and footsies. If I have to rush in I’m going in with low jump D or A, I forget which between jump A and B is the diagonal down attack; whichever it is, it’s that. The Air D is for really stupid meaty stuffs.

Really wish I played KOF 13 more so I could give an answer, but it’s all just me just taking shots and getting lucky. Look at the couple of wins I got with Shen and blindly landing his Neo Max. That’s stupid name for those moves too, so I’ll be going back to true SNK roots and calling them HSDMs.
