Don's Arcade aka Astro City: Torrance/Carson Fridays 8pm-3am

I just fixed it right now:)

Thanks again Don

Don’t worry about it. Just stop by Don’s soon so we can get some games in!

Miss you Dander.

Ya CVS2 is better than CVS1. But I picked up a CVS1 board and it’s ok. It was fun at the time but not anymore. But I’m a collector so I got it lol.

What you should have picked is Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) fighting game.

Fun.

Hey Ni8wing, do you have any footage of games being played at your place? I was thinking about coming. I think a local scene would really improve my play.

Ya I mainly bought CVS1 because it was a good deal and I was able to get another Sega Naomi system. I want to get Fist of the Northstar but it’s hard to find and expensive if I find it will pop up eventually. I also want a Powerstone 2 but that’s expensive and hard to find as well.

Sorry no footage is available. For me it would complicate things if I streamed. Right now my current electrical system and the physical room wouldn’t be able to accomodate it. Everything here is at it’s maximum capacity.

Tomorrow we shall have a gathering. Everyone and anyone is invited. The more the merrier. Anyone new please text me at 310 344 9367. Hope to see you tomorrow.

We can always hook up a Dreamcast and play Power Stone on there

No Suga arcade board only lol. Jk:p

Question: Is America overall light years ahead of the world when it comes to MVC3? Is America don’t only place that actually takes this game seriously? I know Japan doesn’t care. I don’t know if Europe or Australia plays it competively. What about Kuwait? I know these countries have strong SF4 scenes but I don’t know how it is with MVC3. Any ideas?

Is MVC3 a uniquely American game?

Tonight we shall have a gathering starting at 7pm. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. I’ll be going around to collect the E fee so please have it ready when I ask for it. Anyone new please text me at 310 344 9367.

Hope to see you tonight.

From every story I’ve ever heard, the guys over in Asia just usually don’t have anyone to play against in Marvel 3 at a competitive level. The other issue is, well, America is the only country with a couple of dozen tournaments and an outspoken community engulfing this game, compared to everyone else, outside of, maybe, Europe, Canada, and…Australia(?) (I do know about their Xmen vs. Street Fighter scene over there, not their MvC3 scene though). =P

I don’t necessarily believe that Japan is above Marvel 3, but it’s kind of the same reasons why 3s BARELY picked up in the states, at first. They took the time to get to know Mr. Lee, and we took the time to be close friends with Magnus and his lovely assistant Elizabeth Braddock…you know, even though no one knew how to play her for beans.

What’s the XvSF scene like in Australia? What about it today? Does it still exist today? I have the board:)

To my understanding, it’s sorta-kinda alive? I don’t think anyone over there is active, though. In know Canada is into that game along with COTA and MSH (Why? I don’t know. It’s Canada.). In the past (mid 2000’s, I’d say), some of the best players for XvSF were Australian if you exclude guys like Wong and others from the states. It’s not like their scene is bigger than ours, it’s just the fact that they play out the older fighters more consistently than we do.

Good example: WTF is DED in 3s (it’s a meter dependent option select, fyi)? No one in the states talks about that, but apparently, it’s found in Japanese play. C-ryod DOES talk about that, but guess where he’s from? That’s right. Canada. He doesn’t make up for the entire scene in Canada – of course not. However, there’s a lot more dedication to the older games elsewhere, it seems (minus So-Cal 3s and Nor-Cal CvS2). =P

Edit: Oh, and Marvel 2. America owns Marvel 2, as a whole.

MVC is America’s game. Street Fighter is the world’s game from America to Asia to Europe to the Latin Countries to Kuwait. I’m starting to believe that only America cares about Marvel. And America barely cared about Mortal Kombat.

Capcom say we (the states) make up for 60% of their profits. Japan is a little over 10%, Europe is in the 30% margin. Maybe it would be a bit too naive for me to say that America just doesn’t care, period, but our culture is a lot more passive than the others, by far. Marvel 2 was a good game, definitely, but it was the only one (next to, maybe, ST) that even stood the test of time well, here. Once Marvel 3 hit, everyone, including the people who straight up hated Marvel 3, ended up dropping Marvel 2 just to stay in the loop. I’m not saying Marvel 3 is a terrible game, but even compared to the games it takes inspiration from (Arcane Hearts and Melty Blood, lol), it’s not really at the same quality level.

Really, if Capcom can get away with making SFxT look like you’re supposed to care about that game on all levels, and the majority of people play it anyways because it’s “in the now” despite it’s infuriating game design, than that says a lot about the mindset of most people playing figthers, today. No, you don’t have to be a tournament player, but the fun of playing these sort of games is for the competition, learning new tricks, and the community. Capcom aren’t dumb, just clueless as to why games like 3s, CvS2, and Marvel 2 lasted for so long. That said, Marvel 2 survived because it’s scene was extremely tight, and the whole game was glitched out and abused to hell and back, with more characters people in the states could relate to (outside of the robot).

Yeah I guess it’s like, if it’s there I’ll probably play it once in a while heh. But a lot of characters barely have things like like 1 button anti airs they have in cvs2, it’s frustrating just thinking about it lol. But there were some fun combos like Ken jab dp into level 1 and the throw xx super craziness.

btw I haven’t been able to make it lately cuz i’ve been busy on fridays and I recently pulled my hamstring really bad so im gimpy for the whole weekend.

Ya CVS1 is weird. For me it’s the four buttons instead of six and when you block your character gets all weird a shaky.

Right now the gathering is still going strong. I’m in my room taking a break. We have a good following with the old school games and AE but for the past two weeks barely anyone is showing up to play MVC3. My theory is that it’s because UMVC3 is just around the corner.

So when is UMVC3 coming out? What’s the date? I think when it comes out the UMVC3 scene here will be strong again like it once was:)

Oh ya Galzpanic I forgot to post and tell you I’m sorry about what happened to your leg:(

GGs, everyone. I enjoyed bodying you all, minus you Grant, with your stupid Makoto that always takes every ounce of energy in my brain to destroy with Ibuki. CvS2 was good fun, though. I really like it!

@ Don: I’m really starting to notice improvement in my game. Not only in Ibuki, but just about every other character I used tonight in 3s. My Urien and Chun were on point, for sure.

Edit: Next time Marvel 3 is running slow, I’ll make the effort to play. I’m meh at the game, but it’s better than having others sit around doing nothing, all night. =P

Yeah, your urien was giving me trouble.

GGs everybody.

I will probably show up when UMvC3 rolls around. I been unemployed for awhile so the drive over to Dons and the $5 fee actually does hurt my wallet :frowning:

Hopefully I land this tutoring job…
