Don, I honestly feel that I have learned more at your place or an arcade than I have EVER learned in training mode or online. I know it works for some people, but I could not grasp just how important solid fundamentals were until I was in an environment where time was money, where everyone is watching, and your opponent is trying his absolute best because he is under the same pressure. THAT is how to learn solid fundamentals, in my OP anyway. In those situations you need to dig REAL deep just so you don’t look like a fool. If you are in those situations long enough, you will have no choice other than to get better… LEARN UNDER PRESSURE. All the combos and set-ups in the world won’t help you if you don’t know how to read your opponent and react, to understand how to mentally beat someone, how to make them fear you. Plus, it’s a knowledge sink. Everyone is helping eachother out to get better.
IMO the heart and soul of the So Cal fighting game scene is the arcade scene. The arcade scene is the engine that makes this whole thing go. Without the arcade scene, So Cal wouldn’t have the foundation of all the great SF2 players, the great underground 3S scene of the last decade where Japanese players came over and showed us how to play 3S, the wacky fun crazy MVC2 scene, and today with the established foundation of the SF2/3S/MVC2 generations leading the way on how to play AE and MVC3. I think we would’ve have a good TvC scene if it was on Xbox or PS3. But that’s the corporates fault.
So IMO all I care about is the So Cal scene because to me it’s the mecca of the fighting game scene in America (Of course Japan is the first in the whole world). You could make the arguement that So Cal could be another country separate from the US when it comes to the Fighting Game Scene.
So not to be harsh again but if you’re living in So Cal you should be playing in the arcade scene. But if an arcade is too far from you and you’re low on funds, which is understandable, you should always be playing on a joystick and not a pad. I don’t care what joystick as long as it has the six button layout and a stick (American parts, Japanese parts, or Fry’s parts, anything either way). That way you have a good foundation when you do go to an arcade. Personally I think if you know the Capcom six button layout well it’s not difficult to adapt to either Sanwa or Happ since you already have a solid foundation. You can make one out of a shoebox (which is actually not that bad to play on). Just don’t play on a pad please. Borrow a stick from a friend if you have to:).
What do you think about CVS1? Thinking about getting it lol. I could also get CVS1 Pro but it would be way too expensive. But which one is better CVS1 or CVS1 Pro?
I know I’m getting more and more obscure now lol.
Shit while we’re at it what do you think of Xmen: Children of The Atom and Marvel Super Heroes? These boards are like cheap lol.
cvs1 appeals to no crowd imo. Your teams are limited and a lot of the characters are incomplete in terms of the normals and specials they don’t have. It’s a funny diversion sometimes but it really just reminds why cvs2 was so much better.
Tonight we shall have a gathering at 7pm. Everyone and anyone is invited. The more the merrier. I’ll be going around to collect the E fee so please have it ready. Anyone new please text me 310 344 9367. Hope to see you tonight.
MVC2 at the Smoke Shop is fixed. I replaced the switches on the buttons so everything should work fine. Please tell me again if any buttons don’t work.
When CVS1 came out I actually had a lot of fun playing it. Maybe it was because I won more lol. To be honest when CVS2 first came out I was kinda dissapointed. I don’t know why. I remember reading the posts about the beta testing in Norcal and how P Groove was the best. This got me excited but then when it came out something felt missing lol. I like CVS2 but for me it’s a bit overwhelming with all the complicated grooves. Maybe the simplicity of CVS1 catered more to my taste.
Thank you everyone for showing up on Friday night:). We had 14 people. It was fun. Some new faces and a lot of old faces coming back after a long absence.
Thank you Erosentinel, Lee, Ryan, ALAX, Karafail, Kent, Yosef, OutforJustice, Courtney, TheAbsolute, John, Marco, Celso, and Emon.
Sorry that Super Turbo wasn’t working but I fixed it and it shall be working.
So everyone have a good Halloween week and hope to see you this Friday, Friday.
P Groove was good at first because ppl’s pokes were more predictable at the beginning. Once people were able to learn and gain multiple defensive strats then it started to suffer. It was never gonna be as good as 3s because in cvs2 you were basically able to remove yourself from a lot of parry guessing games a pgroover might try to put on you. It’s too bad because capcom wasn’t able to extrapolate that and pgroove had fewer options and a really bad super meter in the end. So something really was missing =[
Sorry I haven’t been around you guys. Piecing things back together, but I’ll see about stopping by sometime soon. Also, I think my play style has changed a bit so you’re all in for a nice surprise. It’s a nice blend of 3s and sf4, but I think I still managed to capture the essence of marvel in my play. Depends on the char.
What’s up with you guys?
Grant, sorry about not having gotten back to you on the message thing, I think I read it in passing.
Mr. Twelve, I still owe you a reply. My bad, dude.
No worries, dude. I actually tried applying your shoto-pressure game into my meaty setups for Ibuki (c.lk or f.lk pressure into whatever on reaction). They work pretty well for me now unless you have some interesting stuff to add to that.
