I’m sorry all I can do is suggest it to him because it is his store. But the next time I see the owners in person I’ll ask him again.
There is enough space now inbetween the Marvel and ST:)
I moved it myself.
And yes I double checked, ST is on the easiest difficulty setting. I beat the game with Ryu without losing a round. Just throw hadokens and make the computer jump and shoryuken. When you knock them down do a roundhouse hurricane kick before they get up. When the computer gets up it will get knocked down by it again most of the time. Don’t do this hurricane kick trick on Ken, Claw, and Sagat. Everyone else it’s safe.
So the owner gave me a text this morning saying that my Super Turbo wasn’t working. I went there and it wasn’t:( So I had to put the Super Turbo in my garage in the Smoke Shop. I have to get that Super Turbo board fixed. So in the mean time there is no Super Turbo at my house:(
Please let me know if there is anything wrong with the games at the Smoke Shop.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 Tournament @ Ziggy’s Smoke Shop. (The tournament will be run by the Gamestop next door)
Date/Time: Monday, Feburary 14 - 8pm
Entry Fee: $5
Signup ends at 7:30pm the day of
Payout goes to Top 3
The owner of the shop didn’t know too much about the specifics since they are just going to be the ones providing the cabs to play on. Format and payout distribution aren’t confirmed yet, although he said it might be single elimination. You will still have to pay the .25c per game to play. I’ll be going down there again this weekend to get info from the Gamestop.
The Gamestop will be doing the midnight release thing for MVC3 btw
Thank you so much Jnana for spreading the word. I’ll change the thread title so people will know.
I don’t know the details but the owner told me that for the midnight release of MVC3 Gamestop will be throwing a MVC2 tournament while you guys wait for MVC3. I’m not involved in this so I think I should talk to gamestop but the procedure is that because Gamestop will be open late for MVC3 the Ziggy’s Smoke Shop next door will also be open late for an MVC2 tournament while you wait at night on Feb 14 (Valentine’s Day).
Not entirely sure of the details but I’ll keep you posted on this thread.
So I talked to the guy at Gamestop last night and yes there is going to be a MVC2 tournament at the Smoke Shop but it is going to be run by the guys at Gamestop. This tournament was thought of at the last minute by Gamestop. There’s good news and there’s “It’s A Business” news.
The Good News:
If we get 15 or more people sign up there will be free pizza from the Domino’s next door.
All of the $5 entry fee money will go to the pot. 60% to 1st, 30% to 2nd, and 10% to 3rd. The bigger the pot the more money:)
The “It’s a Business” News:
To qualify for the tournament you have to put down a $5 pre-order for MVC3 and then pay the $5 for the entry fee for the tournament. You can only be allowed to be in the tournament if you pre-order MVC3 at this Gamestop.
I applaud this Gamestop for throwing a MVC2 tournament at the Smoke Shop for the midnight launch of MVC3 but I also realize that the restriction of only letting only the ones who reserved the game play in the tournament can be troublesome.
My hope is that this turns out to be a big event to celebrate the midnight release of MVC3 by playing a MVC2 tournament and free pizza. I know it’s asking a lot but if you guys reserved a copy of MVC3 already (assuming that a lot of you did), it would be a big favor to ask if you cancel your reservation and reserve it at this gamestop so that we can have a big MVC2 tournament with a big pot and free pizza. If you haven’t reserved it, reserve it here.
I know this was all thought up at the last minute but it’s up to you guys if you want to make this a cool and fun event with a good turn out.
The Smoke Shop and I really don’t get any money out of this, it just seemed like a cool thing to do for MVC3’s midnight release. The reason why there is a restriction on letting only those who reserved play is because Gamestop had to get permission from their district manager to run this tournament and the district manager would only do it if they could get people to reserve copies from the store.
So reserve your copy and sign up for the MVC2 tournament. You can call it in:
Gamestop
Manhattan & Crenshaw
159000 Crenshaw Blvd. #D
Gardena, CA 90249
(310) 965-0872
I hope everyone can join and make this a great event:)
If you can show up for this and give MVC2 one last swing before y’all crack out on MVC3. Final sign up is at 7:30pm. If 15 or more ppl show up the Gamestop guy might buy everyone pizza.
Call 310 965 0872 to sign up or for info.
Well yesterday one of my MVC2’s crapped out on me at the Smoke Shop and I replaced it with Alpha 3. The good news is that a lot of people at the Smoke Shop today were excited about Alpha 3. The bad news is that I have no idea why my MVC2 keeps freezing.
But to be honest I never really liked having two MVC2’s at the Smoke Shop. I at least wanted one version of Street Fighter there. Third Strike there failed. Super Turbo failed. Alpha 3 is probably the most relatable 2D Street Fighter since it doesn’t look too old like ST and isn’t too technical and exotic like 3S. It’s also probably the closest to SSF4 since a lot of the cast in A3 is in SSF4. I think Alpha 3 will do good with the crowd at the Smoke Shop. I had fun playing it today lol. I played it for like two hours because I was testing it. Alpha 3 will most likely stay here for a long time. I don’t want to change the games anymore.
But I got a question for all you MVC2 heads out there:
What kind of glitches are there in the arcade version? I know you can freeze the game. One guy even was stuck in the air and it wouldn’t go down to the ground.
So what are the glitches in the arcade machine? And how do you do these things?
Woot, now I get to learn A3 Guy! =D
The freeze glitch in mvc2 is the only one i know about
I was using Guy and playing everyone yesterday lol.
Guy is awesome.

Yes it’s TAS but it’s still possible lol.
I like the old srk format better because you can change the heading of the thread. Now you can’t change it. The smokeshop now has Super Turbo and not Alpha 3.
Anyway I replaced Alpha 3 with Super Street Fighter II X: Grandmaster Challenge. That’s just the Japanese version of Super Turbo. My Alpha 3 crapped out on me and the screen stopped working. I had to replace the whole machine:(
Well the good news is that I just found out yesterday that the CPU in the Japanese version of ST is much much easier. Unlike in the USA version, you won’t get killed by the first guy and every guy you play doesn’t feel like you’re playing Daigo lol.
Well pretty much this an MVC2 arcade but instead of leaving two MVC2’s there, I rather put an SF to at least have a little SF culture there at the smokeshop. To my surprise when I put in ST today some people started playing it. Hopefully it’ll pick up and there will be a tiny following.
So unless this machine craps out on me, I’m leaving Super Turbo and MVC2 there and not change it anymore. Now at the smokeshop you have two of the best fighting games ever created:)
Freeze glitch requires you to pick Rubyheart and her super and have something funny happen. I’m not sure how that one works. Gambit glitch requires one to do a snap back, hit or miss, and then do his wall jump dive thing. he will then fly off the screen.
The owners and the people who work there tell me that there are some pretty good MVC2 players there beating everyone.
I’m wishing the players here will go all retro and get a rotation in ST.
Oh ya again, since it’s the Japanese version the computer is much much easier.
I put Third Strike in a new cab at the Smoke Shop today:)
Is there anything you can do about the blurry screen?
No:(. Unless I put in a new screen. Is it really that blurry?
I ended up playing marvel cause the screen was too blurry, but if it’s something that can’t be fixed, I can get used to it. It’s kind of like playing a clear screen with my glasses off.
Hopefully down the line I will save up some money and put a new screen in it. I do want it to look good. This happens a lot. When I get these cabs, they’re in my dark dim garage and when you play it, it looks clear but when I take it out to the public it looks either washed out or dim because it’s not in a dark place.
So in the mean time try to play the cab and I’ll try to save up to buy a new screen. I do want 3S to look good.
So school starts again this week and I’m hoping that with 3SO out, 3S will get new life and get some play:).
For the players who go to my place and go to El Camino and/or live nearby and love 3S let’s gets some games in. Show that MVC2 machine who’s boss:)
So I stopped by the Smoke Shop today and saw Kara Fail and played him some intense games.
Jnana you’re right: The screen is kinda messed up. It’s either too blurry when it’s bright or too dark when it’s clear. It’s a little difficult but it’s still playable.
Because I love 3S and I want to try to promote it at the smoke shop, I want to replace the monitor so it looks all nice and pretty like the MVC2 and encourage those MVC2 scrubs there to play 3S.
I checked and saw how much to install a bright new monitor and it cost $300 plus installation.
Because I want 3S to look pretty there, if you guys play the games and help me I will try my best and use the arcade money to replace the 3S monitor. That way they’ll be no excuses.
When I put these cabs in my dark garage they’re fine. But when I put it in a well lighted place like a store, it gets all faded out:(
