Does What a Spider Can! UMvC3 Spidey Combo Thread

I just started messing around with it recently because I discovered that it actually gives Nova some insane setups and combo extension, so here is what I found after about 10-15 minutes with it:

  • It is not possible to perform the Spider Bite follow-up on a cross-counter Spider Sting, BUT it IS possible to cancel the cross-counter Spider Sting into Web Zip. In fact, it’s actually possible to web zip cancel all 3 of spider-man’s assists before Spider-man has even touched the ground from entering the screen. You can also use the invincibility on the startup to Hyper cancel straight into any of his 3 hypers as soon as he touches the ground.

Now that the obvious has been stated above, I have not yet found a reliable method of producing a combo off of the Spider Sting hit since I have worked with. However, I have a few ideas that I want to try before I completely give up, but I will not be able to test them myself until I get back from my family trip… which will end in 7 days.

It is possible to continue comboing after

up zip j:h: j:s: xx :l: web swing j:h: j:s: land s:m: s:h: xx :m: web throw. I believe you can still get the OTG into a full spider sting/bite from which you can finish from there depending on your team mechanics but it’s possible just timing is different

A full CC combo is probably his hardest combo just because of how many consecutive links you need to do in the beginning, hahaha.

That I can agree with. Realistically as far as CC’s go you will get more consistent combos off web swing than spider sting because he can still followup after his web swing without being scaled. The only difference though is the property the game has towards CC DP’s that make it the better CC option

I don’t understand the timing on the :l: Spider Sting into :l: Web Throw =/ the web always passes right through them right after the spider bite…i’ll try and post some crappy cameraphone capture of my attempts and maybe you can pick out what I’m doing wrong going to sleep for now until CEO starts up again.

Try this, it may work for you since it will at least show you height difference but I learned to do it different.

c:h: xx :l: web swing j:m: j:m: j:h: s:m: s:h: xx :l: spider sting/bite :l: web throw.

The j:h: places the opponent higher in the air when followed by the s:m: and s:h: the opponent should be at such a height that they can still be hit while allowing you plenty of time to land and get :l: web throw out. Keep in mind you are still starting the input for the web throw before you land. Once you get this down and notice the height and understand the timing try other combos

what sorcery is this haha I don’t feel like I’ve changed the timing at all but somehow it’ll land randomly man I wish I had some frame data on my inputs haha thanks for the tip at least I can get it sometimes now :slight_smile:

it feels like it has to do with the height I have to land a bit quicker than just with a raw spider sting…

yeah they have to start higher for l spider sting to l web throw

also the faster you do spider bite the easier it is

i started learning xf3 spidey too (after RDK said i didn’t know how to play my team in any order during stream commentary and hurt my feelings :(). he plays like a different character entirely which is pretty neato, instead of normal combos you have all the loops (3 web ball loop, 3 h swing loop in the same combo, or even basic shit into web zip otg relaunch and pretend you’re wesker) and airdash j:h:/:s: get so fast you can autopilot it like vanilla and get tricky crossups instead of slower web zip approaches. also converting from web balls full screen is really easy. i’m going to run him in the back sometimes until i can control it.

i practice my spidey combos on a slightly laggy tv, went to a tournament and missed everything i didn’t want to miss, i will try practicing on a crt to see if it’s any different :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

for connecting dorm’s blackhole off a :h: Web Throw (this is after air magic series and OTG from doom so like ~29hits into the combo) do you need to dash twice(wave dash) AND otg with :l: Web Swing cancel into Web Zip otg in order for it to connect? I’m having trouble getting the timing with just a regular IAD//ground dash.

I’m assuming you’re asking me. A lot of things in my videos are also their for timing reasons, that’s just how I’ve always learned things. I dash twice then at the end of the second dash I tap Dorm’s assist then “swing zip” which OTG’s the opponent into Dark Hole. You can probably just space it right and call Dorm while swinging but I don’t know that timing. Also in the event that you are trying to cross under Dark Hole from the OTG from midscreen to get yourself positioned closer to the opposing corner you can do the two dashes but instead of “swing zipping” you would “sting zip”. It moves Spidey forward that extra bit that he needs to properly crossup, but only use this one when you NEED to crossup from the Dark Hole to obtain more damage. If not the “swing zip” version should suffice.

While I try and get the one you just posted down this is what I’ve cooked up, although it isn’t much of a change from my previous one haha
My hit confirms when doing web throws when the hit-stun scaling is up is so bad I had to resort to some gimmicky stuff and web swing only combos, well it ends with a web throw but no web zip OTGs means its easy peasy.

:3 ALMOST builds two meters, if I could figure out how to consistently get the dash/ webzip behind so I could sneak two web throws in I probably could get that 2nd meter built…

It won’t build it. Doing the combo I posted doesn’t even build two bars. The only proper way to get that extra bar is to have 3C already stocked. If you do have it stocked though it is possible, somewhat strict but I think it’s more screen positioning, to raw tag in Dorm release 3C then do Dark Matter, Dark Hole xx Chaotic Flame. It should roughly do about a mill or so but that’s using my combo. If there were a way to get something more off this it would be nice but not enough time to charge more spells.

yeah I took the idea from that part of the video haha, I just took out the stocked 3C because I’m not going to have it all the time, but yeah it does break a mil for me if I add on the 3C etc ~1,050,900 that’s without sneaking in the extra web throws. Yeah I just ran it through again I guess I overestimated the web throws :frowning: only builds like 1.4 bars without the raw tag, darnit. Oh well 800k is pretty solid now all I need is some good mid screen dorm combos haha

That’s the easy part it’s the hit confirming with him that’s difficult but once you understand him he’s a lot of fun.

you’re telling me I get so mad playing when I finally land a c.H and I botch my web swing, then spiderman just kind poses there until your opponent recovers haha…although it was more frustrating back when I thought any combo was a ToD simply because I had thought I had came up with an inescapable UWT setup =/
the blow is a bit lessened knowing that at least I’m the one landing hits heh
Figured out that I didn’t need combos all the time to win after like 60+ losses vs my friends zero team I just shut him out with air to air j.H’s one game caught him completely off guard, then lost to his 2nd character because I hadn’t actually made it that far before though… :<
