Does sagat even have a bad matchup?

so far, from what i have been seeing in the arcades.even an average sagat will usually have a winrate of 80% +.

and the game centre i frequent is the best in my country already. i seen how sagat body zangiefs… it’s pretty insane!

personally i use ryu and seth and dont remember winning any sagats to date yet. they are my biggest nemesis!! the only time i was close is when my seth started to rush the sagat with mixups and stuff but that was it.

i couldnt even get close to him at all,not to mention knockdown. i’m also an average player but whenever i play against a decent sagat i just get bodied,it’s such a straight forward character spamming projectiles but i cant even win it. i feel so noob !

Seth / Sagat is 5-5, probably 6-4 in 2012. If you try to mindlessly rush in you will lose immediately but playing patient rewards Seth greatly as one read Tiger shot means Sagat is in big trouble. Once Ultra 1 returns to punishing Tiger Shot easily, Sagat will have it harder.

Akuma / Sagat is a terrible match for Sagat. You are basically required to know everything Akuma can do or you will get steam rolled. You have to be amazingly on point with your zoning and playing footsies with Akuma (hell, even getting near him) is just asking to get knocked down into “block until you guess right.” (imo.)

Many Sagat users feel Fei is also fairly bad for Sagat, although I can’t really explain why.

Otherwise, Sagat has fairly even or advantageous match ups. I probably forgot one or two bad MUs, my Sagat sucks so I don’t know much yet.

I cant decide,
should i approach this topic with the demental rage exposure towards the OP , or should i take the more subtle and ironic tone to mock him?

An average Sagat is most likely not going to be 100% on point with their fireball game, so remember a couple things. If Sagat throws a bad low tiger, you can punish it with Ryu’s hurricane kick or Seth’s EX hurricane kick thingy. If he throws a bad high tiger you can jump in and punish with a huge combo. By “bad” I mean predictable/not spaced correctly. Also remember you can focus then forward/backdash. It’s really just a guessing game against him on the approach, he’s not near as OP as he used to be.

Sagat loses to Viper and Gouki flat out. Has a ton of even match-ups and imo loses very slightly to Duds and Fei. He beats a few bad chars and the twins are his most notable advantageous match-ups making him a good counter pick in tourney.

Come on, OP is just bitter so he exagerates quite a bit…
By the way, top lvl Sagat users such as RF, Bonchan, are closer to 70% winrate. So I guess 80% for your local Sagat player means his level is way above local competition.
Sagat is a hard counter to Gief, right.

sagat loses to akuma, viper, guy, fei, dudley, yang, ken, ibuki, abel, dhalsim and vega if the vega is patient and knows how to use kara throw and footsies to the full extent.thats my opinion .

You don’t really have to predict jump ins with Ryu, a basic strategy would be to just walk Sagat down with standing jab.

I’d say Akuma, Viper, Sim, Ibuki would be my bad ones. Since I main Fei, I’m ok with the match although it’s still bad for gat.

Sim is brutal but it can be fun as hell at the same time.

Lose to Gouki and Fei, but Vega and Sim seriously?

He loses to Ryu.

Free.

yeah, speaking from experience vega definitely beats sagat, albeit narrowly

there’s nothing sagat really has in this matchup that is !!! for vega. pressure is meh, footsies are a total non-issue, and his hitbox is huge which allows for easier mixups. plus his walk speed is laughable and high tigers are a perpetual risk against vega, forcing him to go with lows which are greatly susceptible to jump ins.

I steamroll Sagat with my Dan; but that is due to shit players. Players close to me in skill level and match up knowledge will beat me more often than not.

Your trouble with Sagat is a fault of your abilities and match up knowledge more so than his not having bad matchups.

By your own admission a Sagat took you out of Evo so w/e advantage Claw may have is pretty damn negligible. Not drawing that conclusion based on your matches just based on their tools. And honestly the only thing that makes it close is the loop. Cuz if Sagat has nothing that makes Claw scared Claw damn sure has nothing to make Sagat scared either other then Izuna lop of course.

Not hating just keepin it real.

Won’t late autocorrect TU escape the loop? Also, imo, I thought Sagat was slightly favored vs claw. I mean claws super free on wakeup and I didn’t think he had any good tools for opening up sagat but maybe its just the ones I’m playing.

Viper, Gouki are slightly disadvantage but they are manageable if you have knowledge.
But Dalsim is definitely bad, even if you know the matchup, you still need good reaction and luck to win.
Feilong… depends on your fundamentals, but I agree is still a bad matchup like 4.5:5.5.

Yeah Vega’s semi-free on wakeup but Sagat doesn’t do OMG damage or have OMG frame traps either.

His zoning is a major problem. But Vega can deal with it.

Yeah, I lost to Leslie from Singapore at evo. Really good Sagat. Close match. He beat me by playing lame, essentially. He knew his spacing and stuff, and he made good reads on uppercuts when he had no meter. Really good player.

I mean, I’m not saying it’s 7-3 Vega. It’s probably like 5.5-4.5. It’s a really even matchup but I think if you let Claw in to c. mp range, you’re going to have a lot of trouble until you can force him to block a jump in or EX Shot / Knee him away. Vega’s options against fireballs are pretty lousy so he kinda has to jump here and there and as long as you’re aware of that and play a strong zoning game he’ll have a headache or two to deal with.

Needs more ibuki.

Seriously. Terrible match up, nah. But def one of those matchups that can expose sagats character weaknesses. On blast fo shizzle

just because Jo lost doesn’t mean it isn’t in vega’s favor. best of 3 anything is possible. I beat heaps of fei’s akuma’s and all the sims in aus doesnt mean they are in sagats adv.i personally think vega beats sagat.yes sagat can win.thats why its 6-4 and not 7-3 when i vsd makoto at shadowloo showdown i realised why vega blows sagat up. Yes makoto is better then me but i played him at the arcade afterwoods and i asked him who he thinks has the adv and he said vega.

Since when does vega have bad options against sagat’s fireballs? I thought his super duper fast walk speed help a little.
