What I gather from this thread is Sho is bad and has no fundamentals in any game
Serious question: in what situation do you actually do the correct motion and get something else?
I’m an attention whore.
Many situations, due to the excessive buffer window as well, thanks for reminding me about that.
Every game has their best player. Think of each game like a different sport.
I’d probably roll over you, though.
And none of those things make SF4 an overall easier experience for casual or beginner players.
If you’re losing to “dumb easy” shit, then you aren’t anywhere near decent, let alone good.Realize and accept that you fucked up.
No argument here.
Not really. Against someone that knows what they’re doing, a Tekken combo can eat up half your life. I’ve played enough of them to know.
For a beginner player, it can be extremely hard. A “basic” combo in the Mission Mode is brutal.
Hah! You know what, I think they do. I’m just glad they do it, predominately, by playing the shit out of their games, rather than shitting on everyone else.
More like they need to keep their image up.
That’s why Marn and FlashM are cool, they care more about being honest than their image so you know how they feel about a game.
What image?
If someone genuinely likes a game that you don’t, they’re doing it to keep up an image?
Good heavens.
Flash think KoF XIII is the worst game ever and SFxT is the 2nd best game since Guilty Gear.
Stop trying to impose this weird logic you create to make yourself feel right on me.
I think that’s what pisses people off more than anything. Most of the FGC, below top 16, are crabs in a bucket so they wont admit it.
I’m an attention whore.
UMvC3 is America’s game… pretty much every single region in the US has a UMvC3 that is bigger than its SF4 scene. One reason for this is the fragmentation of the “traditional fighting game” fanbase, in Maryland we got people playing CvS2, 3s, ST all instead of SF4. At the same time though we have 0 people interested in MvC2, GG, Darkstalkers, etc because for some reason MvC3 doesn’t need to have old school mechanics but SF4 does? People need to accept SF4 for what it is and not compare it to old games but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Shortcuts absolutely do, and plinking is very easy to learn. You can also pick a character with few 1f links such as Bison and wreck house.
Where did I say I was losing to it? I run Dormammu anchor, XF3 when he’s the last guy out, and kill people like nobodies business. That’s if you don’t get raped by an incredibly stupid Magneto who option selects all of his dashes with throw, which can lead to death off of something initialized by a RPS mechanic that has STATIC HITSTUN until you hit the floor. That is absolutely stupid, thank you very much. Whenever anyone goes “swag swag swag” during a TAC combo, I just shake my fucking head.
I have lost to dumb easy shit on occasion, everyone has. Which is why I don’t even think twice about bringing that point up. People had to come up with some really crafty shit to beat my dumb easy shit, but that dumb easy shit still works like nobodies business. Hell, it’s even better now thanks to the buffs. Right on Capcom, thanks for unnecessarily buffing Dormammu.
You are talking about a raw launcher. That is the equivalent of hitting someone with a jumping normal in SF4.
That is entirely subjective. There are some that are hard, and there are some that are very easy. Most peoples problem is that they go into KOF with a poor mindset, considering that most things are chains, it can be quite easy to play provided you use your brain for a moment. The game is overall harder I would agree, but you talk like it’s unattainable.
Now see this.
Case in point: Fchamp vs. Wong at Canada Cup (IIRC). Wong’s Akuma comeback after wasting X-Factor and being down to a Chip’s distance for Fchamp’s win, and he manages to win.
Even my friends who don’t play, nor like, Marvel saw that match and said they needed new shorts.
Hype is good. Manufactured hype is bad. Even in games that seem anti-hype, when it’s a good match, I’m still hype. so that’s AE in some instances, Tekken, Soul Calibur, VF (Who gets hype for VF?).
I don’t really care what games on stream, as long as it’s a good game, with good matches, I’ll get hype. I got hype on TVC finals (Kurasa’s surprise Level 3 CH hyper, anyone?) and Melty, even though at the time I didn’t play nor really understand the games. I’ve played a little bit of Melty since, so I understand it more now, but I was still hype without previous experience in the game itself.
So I see where OP comes from somewhat.
Still waiting for a PM from Xes or Illthuian to tell me to stop talking about the direction of the gaming industry becoming digital crack dealers again.
See, being older than probably 98% of srk, I can’t really see it that way. The old games seem harder now partially because skill has developed so much over 10-20 years of dedicated play.
If anything, the easiest of the new games is much more complex than the ol games were at the same age.
It was just a totally different time, and you really can’t compare then to now.

you mean hype based on gameplay or hype based on promotion? because they are totally different.
SF is now one of the oldest video game franchises on par with Mario, Zelda, Rockman, Snake, Sonic etc. Same for Namco 3d fighters.
So expect the hype to go with that. If poor Luigi gets only one game in Luigi’s Mansion, how hard would be for SF to focus on other characters except the established ones or even other Capcom fighters? In the case of Jojo or Hokuto no Ken, they got the hype thanks to the manga/anime rather than the actual game. Still the adaptations were quite successful.
Regarding other anime pseudo-fighters like DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach etc, one could also say the same.
Also in the case of Marvel vs Capcom, the cast played a greater part in promoting the game than the actual game. For SFxTekken is still too early and we’ll have to wait till the end of the year for patches and DLC content to arrive before we can make judgements.
So most would not care about gameplay details, unless they can pick their favourite character.
Hype gameplay-wise would fit in the case of lesser known new school fighters such as GG/BB/MB/AC or even Skullgirls. they tried to get an established player base by promoting their mechanics and they had the included hype too. they much needed this to get popular, not of course reaching Capcom audience. So hype definitely helps in that case.
there needs to be a balance. you cant have them both if you want a game to become very popular.
I’ hate to think that people would get introduced to Darkstalkers through the abominable SF4 character animation and design and not the amazing and unsurpassed sprite 2d animation of the mid-90s. though this would require to hire professional animators.

as I said, old yet unsurpassed. better graphics? havent seen this happen yet…
