Even though I am excited to hear that Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Capcom Fighting Evolution will be re-release digitally as a PlayStation 2 classic, I am a little bewildered. Back on Sept 15, I asked Sven about the likelihood of these two games and other Street Fighter games making it to the PSN. On CVS2, he wrote “we do not possess an SNK license for such a rerelease”. On CFE, he wrote “poorly received by the community and media. Not something we should resurface IMO”. And in both cases Capcom Japan disagrees with him. Capcom Japan re-released these two games without informing Capcom USA about it. In another post, Sven mentioned he did not know about the re-release of CVS2 until a week before it was to happen. Lastly, in one post Sven mentioned/implied that Japan was not as interested in digital re-release as the US is. But when I look at all the exclusive digital re-release of non-Capcom games in Japan, I have to disagree. Sven said that Capcom USA owns Street Fighter so why have he not authorize the re-release of SF Collection 1 &2, SF Anniversary Edition, and SF Alpha Anthology? There should be no licensing issues with those games. So, I am asking is Capcom USA relevant? Thanks.
IMO, all is just a facade. Capcom USA is just there to deal with the shit and dirt from the industry (backlash, critics, etc), while Capcom Japan loudly laughs in the background, shelling crap after crap. Its inexcusable to not have CvS2, SFEX collection and Alpha Anthology ports at this time, those being sure cash grabbers.
Japanese executives make business choices in the toilet, taking a dump and thinking about wet panties machines and lolis, no doubt.
Sven mentioned a long time ago that Capcom JP has a much better working relationship with its US branch than a lot of other Japanese companies… you want to talk about bewildering, look at Nintendo USA and how badly they were treated by their parent company. Here is a list of influence that Capcom USA has over Capcom JP:
The CvS2/CFJ rerelease seems to imply that CvS3/CapcomvsCapcom games are incoming.
CvS1 came out in 2000, during the end of the world.
Now CvS3 wants hint at being made around the time some people thought it was the end of the world again? What’s with Capcom and making games when some people think it’s the end of the world?
Anyone see a correlation going on here?

What CUSA really owns is the rights to continue the SF franchise with brand new entries and products, and that’s only because CJ allows them that privilege. The parent company still remains with more trump cards in its hand, as it always had, and the branch company thus far hasn’t tried for any level of original creativity beyond the rehash.
An SFEX collection in all fairness cannot be lumped into the same category as the rest of such mentioned ports, as it would involve Arika together with Capcom.
It is my experience that due to power struggles, politics and changes in orginization, what one person says will be true one day, but will change the next day.
Capcom Japan : "Make on disc DLC yeah??"
Capcom USA: “Make money yeahh!!”
@geadom, I agree with you in that I think Capcom USA is just the customer service side of Capcom and does not really have that much say. Due to licensing issues, according to Sven, Capcom is unable to re-release the versus and EX games. He also said it was difficult to re-release PlayStation 2 games due to the additional work. Well in both cases, Capcom Japan was able to do it.
@scytheavatar, Sven admitted that Capcom Japan repeatedly turn down his Capcom vs Capcom idea. Concerning your link, I am not a PC gamer but based on everything I am reading at Capcom-Unity, PC gamers are not being treated well at all. Outside of MvSF, I do not like the Marvel vs games but I guess those are some good points. Maybe Capcom USA once had the ability to influence Capcom Japan but have lost there “mojo”. Answer me this, why can’t Capcom USA release the other SF games and why was Sven wrong or not informed on the re-release of CVS2 and CJE?
@vasili10, Sven wrote this 3 months ago. CvS2 and CFE had to have been in the works before Sept 15. Capcom USA was left in the dark and I am trying to figure out why.
Capcom USA can’t release other SF games for the same reason why Square Enix can’t release Final Fantasy type 0 or Nintendo can’t release Mother 3: they did a cost/benefit analysis and concluded that they can’t make money from those games. If proven otherwise they will release those games eventually.
And you should know how corporates work, they said that Sentinel and Strider wouldn’t be in MvC3. What Capcom USA said should be taken as a grain of salt, it could be they knew that something is being done about CvS2 and CFE but were made to keep quite until it’s time to announce things.
Capcom Japan allowed them to do it before, but it was a major disaster do I have to remind people of Studio 8?
Yep, Arika owns the rights to the code and the characters they made in SFEX. to the point they could just strip the Street Fighter characters and call it something else and Capcom wouldn’t be able to do anything. Like the April Fool’s joke Fighting Sample the cellphone game.
I liked Maximo
@scytheavatar, I understand the cost benefit analysis. But here is my question, it does not cost Capcom anything or that much to re-release a previous game on PSN. I am not asking for HD graphics or online play. They were able to re-release the SF Alpha series on PSN and the SF2 series on VC. Second point, Sven said that he did not know CvS2 was being released on Japan PSN until a few before it was released. Therefore, I concluded that the behind the scene discussion between Capcom Japan, SNK, Sony, and whoever was going on for a while without Capcom USA knowing anything about it. That is my problem. Why was not Capcom USA informed? Is Capcom Japan not talking to Capcom USA? Is Capcom USA not relevant?
It was decent but I was mentioning that other game Studio 8 made.
I know which game you’re talking about. I didn’t realize it was that bad of a flop.
Still an Intellectual Property that Capcom of Japan owned, Final Fight.
Edit:
Or our we talking about Arika?
I was just talking about SF as I was from the beginning.
To me it looks more like Capcom USA is at the mercy of Capcom Japan.
Capcom USA tries to deal with Capcom Japan’s shenanigans, taking giant dick slaps to the face every now and then.
They try to be a representative of Capcom, but it’s almost like they hardly know any better about Capcom than we do.
I agree. And that is my problem.
Are you sure that it wouldn’t cost Capcom anything? As mentioned licensing isn’t free, and even if it’s free advertising the release wouldn’t be free.
