Does anyone still play STREET FIGHTER 2 anymore?

If not then I would assume that Street Fighter 4 craze took everyone by storm.

And if so what is you favorite Version:

-HDR

-Super Turbo

-Anniversary Edition

My vote goes to HDR because not only was it balanced by top SF2 champions across the world (mainly Japan and USA) but SWEEEET online play (well, when my xbox WAS working) and obviously the new updated art work done for the game.

So, does anyone in the Northwest still cherish and love this game as much as I do?

Super Turbo, I still love the classic.

HDR is not available in Japan nor was it ever really played there.

Yeah, we play it like crazy.

We played the shit out of HDR on release night. But yeah, no real gatherings dedicated to just HDR since. Guess the ST players around here are less invested in their scene than players of other games. Or, they’re all too cheap/broke to really host.

wow i did not know that HDR is not available in japan, hmm… is Evo using HDR?

but my vote does go to HDR which i play on XBL you(OP or whoever lol) can add me if you want.

You are INSANE, if you think that HDR got more balanced instead of really just getting more SCRUB friendly and top people putting personal bias into character design, " read new honda, geif, blanka, hawk players " while other characters got pretty much NOTHING!

HDR just gave permission around the world not to bother to learn there craft and be scrubby and win against people that did bother to put the work into Street Fighter a long time ago. To Quote many other top players in SF " SIRLIN FAILED "

It’s all about vanilla ST. HDR has some potential but in the end is just hella gross. The online play is nice, I’ll give it that.

Jab headbutt.

Jab headbutt.

DAVAD SORLEN

If people still played original ST here, I would continue to play it. As it stands though, HDR killed ST, and it’s all about SFIV anyway.

I love Remix. :bgrin:

Nobody sleep on James. That guy is playing Remix anytime I turn on my X-Box. He is probably playing it now. I don’t think it’s possible to play that much and not level up. He probably has some tight armor and equipment by now.

not an hdr fan either, i like that ooooooooold shit and i like to play the nasty versions on dc or ps2 with my ragedy old sticks. hdr looks tight but so does the hyundai genesis. both are not worth your time or money

Oooh, OUCH! What do you mean by “SCRUB FRIENDLY”? David Sirlin’s WHOLE PHILOSOPHY was to:

  1. make HDR more “assessable” to new players who couldn’t do, say, a dragon punch (make the time window of that move to 15 “constant” frames instead of 8 to 15 frames at random. The same was done with Supers as well.

  2. To make the game more “Tournament balanced”. Let’s face it, we see a lot of these characters in the finals:

-“OLD” Sagat
-Boxer
-Stretchy
-ST Vega

  1. Add fun as long as it DID NOT interfere with number 2.

Among others I am sure but these characters (mentioned above) saw a lot of play time in tournaments (in USA) more than say, I’ll take all the characters you mentioned above "Honda, Gief, Blanka, Hawk.

These characters NEEDED these changes which they got and yes I know you said that some characters got nothing. Sure I can’t deny that is disappointing (would have liked to see something new for my boy boxer) but if you kept up with David’s articles (that he was cool enough to write through out the ENTIRE development of the game) then you will get this answer (or something close to this): Said that the time for this project is reaching it’s “due date” and also the fact that some changes that David wanted to make he simply couldn’t due to the fact that the programmer (the guy who implemented Honda’s jab headbutt, Ryu’s fake, etc) was not ALWAYS readily available and Capcom had that same guy working on a different project as well.

I was looking forward to a new move for Boxer but the FACT is Boxer does not need this.

And to further answer your question about “scrub friendly” David Sirlin TOOK OUT A LOT OF ABUSEUBLE THINGS. Remember the time when you where Claw and the other person was Stretchy (Sim) and Stretchy would end the game by doing repeated “noogie” traps? That’s a sticky situation. Or how about the Boxer loop hole of repeated low forward to grab headbutt? Did you like the time when you where cornered by Honda’s loop hole ochio in the corner? How about the time when you where DIC and the other person was Ryu throwing repeated fire balls at you? My point is Sirlin fixed this stuff WITHOUT ruining the balance of the game.

I hoped I answered your question Raishinken!

Bait it, my friend. As most people who know this game know that baiting a move will set you up to counter, say, the Jab headbutt. I personally don’t know why poeple complain about this as this is NOT very hard to counter. Examples:

-If he/she keeps doing Jab headbutt Throw fire balls fast!! This works. (Not ALWAYS but more times that doing this will be beneficial to the fireball thrower.) Honda still needs time to recover when he lands after doing Jab headbutt and remember that this move “nullifies” fireballs meaning that AS SOON AS HONDA KILLS THE FIREBALL WITH JAB HEADBUTT as soon as the fireball thrower recovers he can throw another fireball because he is not breaking the “one fireball on the screen per fighter” rule.

Also, ANY dragon punch type move beats out Jab headbutt. If you are playing against someone who keeps doing jab headbutt then time there mindlessness and counter accordingly. Simple.

What is the EXACT scenario that people complain about jab headbutt anyways? Can some one PLEASE give me an example of this so I can inform you of ways to get around this.

I am sorry to hear that the game is not available to you guys. That sucks. But Hey, I have heard (from people who play HDR) that there are INDEED some players from Japan who play this namely Jodhim and Muteki to name a couple.

Also I know that the Arcade scene in Japan is VERY STRONG so what’s the point in owning an Xbox or PS3, right?

Damn I would LOVE to live in Japan!! (if only I knew the language) ;(

Lots of love to Japan!!

Hey, can’t argue that my old school friend. To simple put your statement: some people love the old more than the new. Some love Anniversary More than HDR. Me Personally I love ANYTHING that has “Street Fighter 2” in the title. (World warrior, Champion aka DASH in Japan, OG (original) Turbo, New Challengers, Super Turbo, heck even Hyper fighting for XBOX 360 even though that game was NOT a “new” SF2 game.)

try multiquote next time, SeoulGuySRK :frowning:

I’m amazed by all the backlash HDR is getting lately because I like it a lot. But maybe I’m biased because I like the buffs my character (Dictator) got, I felt naked when I played ST last without being able to fake slide and use devil’s reverse to escape from shit, haha.

I think for the most part the balance is better in HDR, and I definitely like that they toned down all the gay bullshit like less range on throw loops, Vega walldives not knocking down, Old Sagat ceasing to exist, etc. shrug

Honda’s still fuckin gay as hell, though.

Seoulguy, why are you addressing people in this topic as if they’ve never played the game before? We all know what Sirlin changed in HDR, but most people who were playing original ST before HDR came out still prefer ST.

Jab headbutt isn’t dumb because it’s difficult to counter, it’s dumb because what used to be a complex problem with elegant solutions now just has a brainless sidestep around the whole issue.

As a Guile player, I have no problem with HDR. But man I can totally see why people who play some characters would hate the shit out of it.

A wise man once said:

SF2? Didn’t I play that game 20 years ago? Surely there must be a sequel or two out by now.
