Does anybody actually enjoy fighting game bosses?

I write this as I fight Gaoh for the 15th time in Samurai Shodown 6, and it reminds me of my never ending battles against Rugal in '94 and Marie 300%. I know why these bosses are so difficult, they’re designed to eat quarters. But does the FGC actually enjoy playing them?

Well… no one who plays competitively cares about the bosses at all really. Like you said they only exist in case you run out of people to play in arcade, so you quarter doesn’t go to nowhere.

Personally, I kinda like the challenge fighting game bosses pose, but then again sometimes frustration boils over in on ya when you lose repeatedly and you end up possibly breaking your controller… Such humiliations hurts IMO but… you can get even better as a player that way, live and learn… I found ways to beat up some pretty mean, tough bosses over time pretty easily 'cause they become predictable… So do I enjoy fighting game bosses? Does somewhat count?

Haha. Sure! So wait, can wailing on bosses actually make you better against human opponents? My buddy always told me, if you can beat a fighter on the hardest difficulty, you can hold your own online. But he’s by no means an expert on the subject :stuck_out_tongue:

Some bosses are fun and some are ass. Xrds boss version of Ramlethal is total bullshit.

'94 Rugal is one of the easiest SNK bosses. Just hold up+back and keep mashing C+D until you run out the clock

Or that crouching C with Yuri.

I used to enjoy bosses when it seemed like they were regular characters that were just played really well by the AI. As things went on and bosses were made cheaper “just because” I started to lose interest, roughly right around Gill in SF3

I’m good with Rugal now thanks. It was like 10 years ago when I couldn’t beat him.

Now if you have any tips on Gaoh I’m all ears…

The General from Kaiser Knuckle.

I don’t mind bosses that actually test skills that you apply throughout the game. Bosses like M.Bison from SF2 are a test of skill without breaking fundamental rules of the game’s system. The ones that require a strategy that doesn’t apply normal skill is bullshit. Cheap bosses like Azazel from Tekken or Dark Ash from KOFXIII disrupt the flow of the game.

It’s fun watching kids try to beat them.

I’ve found Gill is susceptible to deep RH/Low RH from sweep distance. You do that a few times and his biracial ass is grass…

I don’t think anyone here would agree with that.

MK2 (arcade) Kintaro/Shao Kahn

SF2 (arcade) unplayable bosses

To name a few…

The only time I have fun with bosses is figuring how to exploit the AI to overcome the bullshit. I remember in MK3 Shao Khan couldn’t do shit if you crouch blocked.

Does anybody remember jacking up the hardest difficulty on Marvel Superheroes vs Street Fighter, and fighting Cyber Akuma?

Or jacking up the difficulty in CvS2 and playing against Shin Akuma?? yeah…

Gill loses to low jab, low jab, SBK blockstrings.

I do actually have fun against Ino (Accent Core Plus) and Alpha 3 Bison.

…But Alpha 3 Bison is pathetically easy. You can beat him by turtling. Or at least…by not jumping when he has Super Meter.

IF i can use smash bross bosses than yes. if not than i can;t name many to be honest.
