Damn, I would never expect to see a Horse Racing game taken seriously. And just a Marie Rose costume? Well, it’s free at least.
But it looks like this is the end: https://www.dualshockers.com/dead-alive-5-last-round-dlc-releases-ending-2017/
Well, so much for me expecting Mai would get decent costumes. But I hope for a new Ninja Gaiden game before DOA6. Maybe since tag and crossovers are all the hype, they’ll go head on with some crazy stuff to test waters.
The same bit of news was posted literally right above your post.
Anyway, as much as I love 5 (Last Round has been installed on my PS4 ever since it launched), I’m more than ready to move on to 6.
5 was a very positive step forward for the series in terms of its gameplay. The shift to a more combo heavy style IMO helped showcase how the critical system (with holds, slow escapes, et al.) can make a combo system richer, by going fully towards the KI route and emphasizing knowledge of the combo system’s rules in favor of rote memorization. The system here is quite more engaging, especially when you see the “critical” sign on screen from a random hit and try to figure out how to best covert off it - it triggers a certain “gamblers impulse”.
That said, the system could stand to have a number of refinements. The VF characters showed that the system could work with characters with better frame data, so I’d like to see more work in that direction. With holds in neutral, the game can allow for more frame advantage than it currently has. Additionally, side-stepping can be buffed even more, learning more lessons from AM2/VF. Finally, I’d like to see force teching integrated better into the system. Even in 5, it seemed to me that they weren’t sure how to handle them, giving some characters (e.g. Ultimate 1.0 Rachel) really good force techs, then later removing them. I always liked how force techs changed the usual 3D knockdown/oki game via forcing standing resets/mixups. That said, I do understand how oppressive they could be (e.g. pre-patch Ultimate Rachel). I’d like to see them find a better medium where force techs still play a role and are better integrated, but where they aren’t as annoying.
Rio is from the rainbow gate series, and Irene is from Ninja Gaiden and hasn’t been shown to fight
Misaki is an original DOA character and is pretty much to DOAX3 as Lisa was to DOAX1 (Lisa debuted on that game, then made her fighting game debut in DOA4). Besides Misaki is a potential fan favorite so they’ll be no hesitation to add her to the main series
