Doa4 mod tutorial (photo galore D:)

solution: get the xbcd drivers

How easy would it be to swap out the gate on one of these things? I’ve been using this thing for about two months now and I’ve thought about doing a gate swap to make some of Cammy’s ST motions more plausible. Has anyone done JUST a gate swap? On the Hori stock stick.

It’s not too bad, but you will need to drill some holes into the gate in order for it to fit. Refer to the first post of this thread for images on where to drill the holes.

Alright, thanks for the response.

Hi.
I want to buy the Hori EX2 stick for the Xbox360 but i really want it mostly for 4-way control games like pac-man C.E.

I’ve read elsewhere that this stick isn’t good for 4-way without modding so i’m asking you guys for advice.

Will it be easier to switch to a different stick that allows you to switch between 4 & 8? If so which stick and how do i do it?

Is it easier to get a 4 way only restricter plate for it and just take it off if i ever play a fighting game? Where would i get a plate if that is the best way?

this stick is kinda hard to mod…

read the whole thread and see for yourself

Does anybody know if there are any pushbuttons small enough to fit the start and back button holes? I don’t feel like drilling new holes on the sides. So I was wondering if anyone knew.

i have the doa stick also but on the joystick are all the wire have to have a ground cause i have the JLF-TP-8T so just wondering if they can share a common ground

Check the first page. Chippermonky shows a picture of his modded JLF pcb. You’ll need to do that with yours too since the DOA pcb isn’t common ground.

anyone know any sites that sell pre-modded sticks or if send ur one in they’ll fo it for you i suck at soldering

Thanks alot chippermonkey, I’ve just followed this guide and successfully installed a JLF stick on my Hori EX2 (Not bad for my first time modding), everything works splendidly but I have a bit of a problem, the metal enclosure (that plate thing that closes it from the bottom) doesn’t fit anymore because the JLF protrudes too much out of the bottom of the controller, has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions would be welcome and thanks a lot in advance.

I’m completely green to arcade stick modding and I have an EX2 that I want to replace the buttons on. I read the instructions on the first page, but I’m the kind of person that typically need visuals. Are there any videos or images of someone doing the button switching process?

I’m just terrified of messing up my stick.

Try this.

yay a trojan

Do you need hole plugs to put the sanwa buttons in?

trojan or not, This it is one of the best tutorials for modding the HORI EX2 (DOA4/VF5/SC4) stick

AVAST AV calls this site as a trojan when opened in Google Chrome, BUT default IE settings seem to block the Iframe load (do not override if it asks you to Download anything)

another good copy of the SRK tutorial, sans the website crashes

I ordered $13 worth of parts from lizard lick:
Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate
Sanwa LB-30-N Joystick Bat Top (or you can keep the ball)
Sanwa JLF-CD Shaft Cover & Disk

I kept my original Hori buttons, they aren’t great, but they get the job done, and Sanwa buttons are kinda pricey (~$20 for a set).

I recently did a couple more mods to this stick.

  1. I attached a sheet of eDead 120 to the inside of the base of the stick. Increased weight, and less sound reverberation.
  2. I ghetto rigged an old mousepad to the outside of the base as a rubber grip to prevent sliding. I plan to replace this with better material cut to size whenever I find something suitable.

I will probably do the Sanwa buttons at some point when I commit to the high price, or find them on sale. I was trying to keep this stick cheap, and I am already around $80.

can i use a cuttter like this one:

to break the traces?

Hey chipper, can I know what size is the nut you used for the shaft? I want to lengthen the shaft in my EX2, since I still feel it’s too short. But didn’t know what size the nut was.

hhey can anyone tell me how to find another way to connect the ‘A’ button
as u can see in the pic where the blue wire is . mines does not have a solder point my son ripped the wire out while i left the room n pulled the solder off too. can anyone please help me thanks

I’ve been trying to use the PCB from a hori EX2 with a sanwa stick and down was registering as back+mp. I didn’t realize I’d have to break the connections on the sanwa pcb. Thanks chippermonkey, I’d have gone crazy without reading this trhead.
