Doa4 mod tutorial (photo galore D:)

Nope. They are different.

I think I’m just gonna use the stock microswitches and if I feel there is a problem, I can just switch them out.

Alright, so I am thinking of changing the Joystick according to this mod.
What I dont understand is what will be the significant difference between the original Hori parts to the Sanwa parts. I mean if some of you use that microswitches than before wont it feel the same. Might aswell only switch the Balltop.

I don’t know I am just asking since I was thinking of trying it and I am not sure yet.

If you follow this mod exactly, the joystick will contain all sanwa parts with the exception of the shaft. If you keep the stock microswitches, you still have the sanwa square gate and base.

But I do know what you are trying to say. That’s why I was wondering if the stock microswitches were worth using or not.

So I bought the JLF stick as a replacement for the Hori one.
I did my best to use all JFL and it is possible.

I used the Sanwa Shaft, simply added both conical pieces from both the Sanwa and the Hori, so it looks like a little white ball at the base of the shaft(gives it that .25 in you need of height instead of the nut). You could use the black actuator from the Sanwa one, but you will mostlikely need to trim it down and I did not care about that piece. I used the White actuator.

I just happened to have screws that fit perfectly on the Sanwa base to attach to the Hori plate, It was great.

I did not make any weird holes at the bottom of the metal plate or add any other wooden risers. Just some word to the crowd. Hope I helped some.

Oh yeah, I felt the that it was best to use the Microswitches that come with the Sanwa, so I soldered right on to the solder points on the pcb. After cutting the traces obviously.

If you live near the SD, Ca area I can help you do this mod or any pcb wiring.

Hey, sorry for bumping this, but does anyone live near the Huntington Beach, CA area who would be willing to help me with this?

I just did this mod on an extra stick I had and damn it took some work.

It’s great if you want a longer stick shaft, but as far as performance goes I found no real difference between this and just modifying a gate to work with the stock stick like I did here.

I wish I could mount a seimitsu stick on there. One with a tighter/shorter throw.

I modded a SoulCa stick and came across the sanwa shaft problem. I didn’t want to file anything so instead I inserted a washer at the highest of the shaft (on the other side of the box, right under the dust cover). This meant that the stick spring was more “intense” and the shaft was risen 2 mm more. Very non intrusive solution and definitely the best I could come up with.

Btw, if you were to stick another pcb in(or swap), how would you wire in the start/select(back) buttons.

is it better to make 2 holes for two more buttons, or is there a way to use the existing ones and wire/solder em onto another pcb

Uhhh, solder wires where the black ribbon cables are. Just trace which are start and select.

since theres no comon ground would a seimitsu ls 32 be a better choice since each microswitch has their a ground?

Yes it would be. Look at the T5 mod that V4MPIRO did and see how he mounted the ls32. The only thing that’s going to suck is that you would have to dremel out all of the plastic that held the old joystick.

Here’s a top view so you could get an understanding as to where to drill the holes.

I asked him about shaft clearance for the stick and apparently it’s arcade perfect.

hey, so would this mod work the same way for the fighting stick EX2(the xb360 virtua fighter stick)?

this thread shouldnt die…im gonna try and mod that hori 360 stick soon so i ll need all the info available

I am making mine wireless. It should be done today or tomorrow. Pictures to follow.

i think the DOA4 stick is the exact same as the Ex2 but with different art.

Haagen Dazs

Scoops!

OMG that would be amazing! I want one! :woot:

I’m just getting back into 2D Fighters and picked up this stick. Is it a total POS or what? I’m playing SF II on 360 and it doesn’t seem like this controller is registering my moves (like I hydoken about 50% of the time when I’m trying). If you get the wireless working on this PM me and I would be happy to pay you if you would mod my stick the same way. :lovin:

I wasn’t planning on changing out my the whole stick on my ex2, but I wanted to change out the ball top to match the buttons.

however, I don’t know if Seimitsu ball tops will fit on the top of the hori stick.

I just want to know if the dimensions of the hori stick are similar to the sanwa sticks, besides the height. It says it will fit JLF and JLW sticks.

Were you able to convert it to wireless?

hay guys, I have a NOOB question. Has anyone had a problem with the doa4 PCB getting all confused? my PC still recognizes it as a doa4 joystick, but the buttons don’t respond properly. Some don’t work, and some give me wrong input (e.g. I hit the green button but it says I’m hitting diagonal).
