Do you want to see Team Sp00ky stream EVO 2011? Petition added!

As much as I would love to see Spooky stream EVO this year, the chances of it happening are slim to none.

It’s kinda sad too since 90% of the community is on Spooky’s side, while you have the other 10% on LevelUP’s side.

The reason Spooky won’t stream EVO this year is quite simple, LevelUP have connections or have a closer relationship to the EVO organizers. In other words, this is not a democracy, and we can’t vote on who streams, otherwise it would be a slaughter with spooky ahead 9:1 ratio.

yeaaaa

This is why I was kind of hesitant to vote at first… there’s really no way that the EVO organizers are going to throw a thumbs down to LevelUp. They’re locked in no matter what.

West Coast bias means Spooky will never stream EVO.

“evo is a world tournament, meant to be accessible for everyone”

hosts it in the back yard of california

what do yall think is gonna happen.

evo is a west coast tournament marketed towards everyone else.

west coast west coast west coast.

everyone is gonna be west fuckin coast.

Regardless of what Sp00ky did or did not do… for the most part I have not seen anything incredibly compelling about LevelUp’s streaming. Yes, they broadcast matches, yes everyone watches them (because honestly, the same people are watching all the streams they can’t attend). Unfortunately I find some of the people involved with L’UPs streams kind of grating, and I don’t mean the commentators (because these are not linked to streams) They are pretty excited to get some time in a spotlight , and unfortunately it shows.

That aside, if they did it hopefully they would do a good job and I don’t hold past instances against them. Its not like they wanted that to happen. I have no beef with their uptime, just some of the personalities involved and I have to give the edge to TS for quality (if its not capped by bandwidth)

Its kind of a curse, but sp00ky has taken up the job of being the best at this streaming game. This means all day monitoring things, buying expensive hardware, and lugging it around to new and different venues. Why do you think he restarts the stream and asks for feedback constantly? He wants to do it right. It’s not even about the money(is there any?), its about being the best at what you do. I think anyone that plays fighting games can understand his mindset, and respect him for it.

I don’t know him, or any of those guys personally… but I do know he is someone who is dedicated to a craft. It saddens me that his craft is one of major expense and not much payoff, but I salute him for his dedication to it.

If you had to trust that the stream would be of the best quality for no other reason than your own personal enjoyment, who would you choose?

heres the highlight of the comments everyones going on about.

I think Spooky deserves his shot. Yes, we can go on and on about what happened last year at Evo. But really, I think the impetus here is to focus on what he does for the FG community. I’ve been watching his streams for a long while now, and Spooky has put in so much time, effort and money into streaming that it’s a little ridiculous. The man, at this point, basically has his process on lockdown. While some streamers rarely leave their state (some don’t even seem to stream anything outside their county…), Spooky has been putting in the legwork - literally - to bring us streams from all over North America. Not only has Spooky put on basically flawless streams, but he’s humble and honest about it. I kick him spare change at every event he streams. For me, its worth it. Not for the raffles or contests, but just to keep him going. He had 18,000 viewers for Final Round for two of the most hype tourneys in a while (both SSFIV and MvC3), with viewers blowing it up everywhere, and the action went down without a hitch and with a truckload of excitement.

Sometimes there’s a lot of shit bandied about about stream monsters and supporting the community (“What’s with all the stream monsters? Actually leave your house and hit up a tourney!” etc., we’ve all heard it all) and whatnot. These days…I find it hard to even get time to support my local arcade (University Pinball here in Philly), let alone get my shit together and go out to tournaments. Life is just sometimes not conducive to gaming, or any time intensive hobby, as I’m sure we all know more and more intimately as we get older.

For me, at least, streaming is a way to “participate” in, even to the smallest degree, a big part of what makes the FG community special and really unique. Spooky brings us a piece of that hype every time he packs up his stuff, travels out and sets up his equipment for days’ worth of 12 hour shifts running a consistent and quality stream for thousands of FG enthusiasts. I think he deserves a shot.

To end this with not a bang, but a whimper; unfortunately, I feel the same way Liquid does. Like in all things, there are a lot of politics behind the scenes and I’m sure Evo is no exception. But, the best I (we) can do is throw our support behind Spooky, and throw him some bones when he streams. Every little bit helps. Tell your friends, too. Any leads professionally, I’m sure he’d appreciate it. Help him help us help him. Lastly - good luck, and a HUGE thanks to Spooky. Don’t listen to the haters. A lot of us out here in “stream monster land” really do appreciate and love what you do.

For all those who missed it, here’s the press conference:

Justin.tv - teamsp00ky - Final Round XIV Day 2 – Part of the Evo 2011 Tournament Season! Brought to you by Mad Catz, Bandai Namco, Cheapassgamer.com, & Godsgarden.

The poverty press conference just finished. Sp00ky is a godlike man, and that’s why, everyone who watched it can tell how legit this man is. Much love Vic! Thanks for always keeping it real.

I love this community man because of people like Vic, James Chen, UltraDavid… among many, many others. =’)

Exactly what is Levelup Series talking about when they say “broadcast unprofessionalism”? If they are talking about the foul language, then they can’t even talk. I appreciate James Chen and Ultradavid on the mic, but last week, we had some random guy making racist comments, making a completely awkward moment for viewers. Like Spooky said, we are all adults, for the most part. Language is a given when it comes to the excitement of tournaments, but how exactly can you argue for racism?

There’s no contest between TS and LUP in terms of overall entertainment. TS has commentators that actually get excited during hype moments and LUP has Tekken players commentating SF.

The hype during good games really come thru on TS streams (by the commentator’s reactions) and that’s what makes the streams really fun to watch.

Of course Evo’s still gonna be done by LvlUp though since there’s a relationship there.

plus one for sp00ky please!

Do you guys know the server for the irc channel chat?

I just wanted to add my .02 in this real quick.

There’s going to be so much going on at EVO this year. There needs to be multiple streams on Friday and Saturday. That way, people can watch what they want to watch. Then on Sunday, have one stream for the finals.

Whatever happens, just having one stream is not enough. For NEC and Winter Brawl, there’s multiple streams going on and people love it. I would like to see EVO do the same.
