Eh, not sure about selectable V-triggers. I feel they could just give the alternate V-trigger to another character instead. Like instead of giving Ryu another V-trigger that is a special instead of an install, they could just give it to Akuma.
For example, you want fireball shoto? Ryu. You want flashy rushdown shoto? Ken. You want Ryu/Ken with a special instead of install V-trigger? Akuma.
3S was varied because of different supers? Everyone sticked to one super, or two at most, in that game. You never saw anyone use Akuma SA3 or Chun-Li SA1. What are you smoking?
I would like for each character to have an extra critical art. However, i also am liking the idea of performing your CA while in V-Trigger should give not only give increased damage output, but also have a different animation. (Ryu, Necali).
Considering there are 3 supers available, “only using two of them” is pretty good. And more than half the cast have two legitimate supers that see use in high level play.
Necro - 1 and 3
Remy - 1 and 2
Q - 1 and 2
Mak - 1 and 2
Yang - 2 and 3
Ryu - 1 and 3
Oro - 2 and 3
Dudley - 1 and 3
Elena - 2 and 3
Hugo - 1 and 3
10/19 characters use two supers in high level play. Usually they are matchup or style dependant. Yang and Ryu are entirely different characters depending on which super they pick, Q picks SA2 vs divekick characters, and so on.
This doesn’t get into the weirder edge cases like some people thinking Urien SA1 is better vs Gouki or Kuroda using SA1 as Ibuki.
So yes, the post you quoted is an entirely sensible and accurate thought. I have no idea why you think it’s a good idea to be condescending in response.
I think selectable supers would be superfluous in V. Every character is designed to have at least 1-3 tools to deal with every situation. Every character has something to counter fireballs. Every character has at least one good Anti Air (including Bison and his super). So, I don’t see how more supers are going to diversify the cast aside from giving them gimmicks or some shit.
I think giving them more than 1 CA is going to be important. SF5 is going to be very matchup heavy and have different tools to deal with different characters is going to help balance the game more.
I dont want capcom to add more critical arts. Capcom said they want to make the game more accessible for new players and I think having selectable critical arts makes it this whole thing a bit more complicated. We just dont need it. I just wnat capcom to spend their time on giving us damn good DLC characters. And spend their time fixing the damn game before it comes out. Stop nerfing Ryu.
I’m a guy who likes variety, so it’d be nice if eventually we got additional CAs (Especially for Zangief, his so far is the only one I don’t like) or as others have said above me, enabling it during V-Trigger would produce a whole new move.
What top players did is irrelevant to what I said. The game is objectively more varied because it had more supers for different playstyles, regardless if the top players stuck to one or two. I’m not talking about the habits of players, I’m talking about the fact that the game has those options period. More supers = more variance, and thus, more fun, particularly in casual play.
Variety would mean you see all those supers in action. They have to be viable. Otherwise, they are just “options” no one opts for. Would you say Akuma’s SA3 is a viable option? Would you see it used again and again in even low-level matches or would a newbie change the super after trying it for the first time and seeing that it’s a waste of animation? Is it still an “option” after the player realizes it’s there to NOT be selected?
